Vogue's Anna Wintour Addresses Kim Kardashian/Kanye West Cover & All the Related Controversy

Anna Wintour has opened up about the Kim Kardashian and Kanye West cover of Vogue‘s April 2014 issue.

“Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?),” the 64-year-old editor in chief wrote in her letter from the editor.

“As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue‘s cover,” Anna added. “He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”

So there you have it!

There’s a reason Wintour didn’t get a front row seat at the Valentino show this year , Wintour should retire, Vogue has become as tacky as all the others.

    Avery Says:

I think Ann Wintour’s decision to put those pair of disgusting muppetts on the front of Vogue is fabulous. Just shows her and the fashion industry up for what they really are. A group of self entitled air heads with narcissistic personalities. Totally devoid of anything resembling reality.

    That's Right Says:

Apparently, the uproar is huge which is great!! Vogue’s Facebook page is flooded with disdain for this decision. Of course, Anna is not going to go against the golden payoff she received and tell the truth. We’ll just have to wait and see if she can save face when the sales and subscriptions go down the toilet. RIHELL Vogue and Anna!

    Alaia Says:

I’m just disappointed that Anna caved in. I hope people avoid the cover like a plague.

    Eddy Says:

Anna Wintour is as repulsive as is her ‘trademark’ hairstyle and sandles. Who annointed this woman as the fashion maven? Who knows the real truth as why she put the equally hideous Kim & Kanye on the cover. May be just for the simple publicity it seems to be drumming up. I believe she killed any credibility that Vogue had left with this move.

    @That’s Right:

Great. I’m glad people are commenting on Facebook. :)

    Mallory Says:

You guys are idiots. Anna and the rest of the heads at Vogue are geniuses. They knew how much buzz this would cause, and you all are just proving their point. People either love or hate Kimye, as a couple or as individuals. They knew people would be blowing up about this, and thats what you all are doing. Anna is 100% correct, they are a HUGE influence in our culture, whether it’s his music or her fashion influence, or if it’s us making fun of their stupidity. Vogue knows that they’re doing.

    Diaper Butt Kim K. Says:

I bet Kim is crying right now because she is not receiving the response she was hoping for from the public she try so hard to get to like her. Well dump butt the truth of how everyone really feels about you and your bully Kanye West has come home to roost! ENJOY!!!!!

    That's Right Says:

Having the public talk about their dislike of them is not always positive. Anna will pay for it in the end with down subscriptions, lack of sales for this book, and returned subscriptions of this book. Plus since she allowed this travesty eventually if sales are down the magazine price will go down. How many designers do you think will be happy about this that advertise in Vogue??? Not many if the sales flop and thus advertising dollars will go down. Marketing genius? Only if they make money but so far from what I’ve been reading it will be loosing and Vogue has become the laughing stock of the fashion world. Next the Real Housewives of ____________, you feel in the blank.

They better have a helluva May cover to make up this mess.

    Scarlett Says:

Just goes to show how Vogue like other print mediums and magazines are losing money and becoming desperate to stay financially solvent? Vogue as been circling the drain for awhile. It’s become less about fashion and more about trying to be provocative and edgy to generate interest and sales. I mean Lena Dunham? Lena Dunham may be interesting but she’s 100% not a fashionista. And Kim K.? Really? Yeah, this issue will gain attention but will it sell? Being inflammatory doesn’t necessarily translate to sales.

  11. 36
    Kitty Says:

@Mallory: You don’t know much about marketing, do you? It’s only good if it pays off! If people are outraged and don’t buy, if she loses subscriptions and the overall sales go down, in general, then it is a huge fiasco. This is what will happen as the fashion world itself is in an uproar over this. Nobody wants to touch these ****** with a 10 foot pole and for good reason. Anna Wintour just committed a huge mistake, one that Vogue will pay for.

Just read the Facebook comments on the Vogue site, which are more negative than even I expected. A photographer said it best, though, when he posted that Vogue is meant to showcase influential women and give girls something to aspire to, and nobody should aspire to be Kim Kardashian. Perfectly said!!

    Jan Says:

Vogue – good trash diving, thought you had more class than this. Don’t you know your audience? The message I’m getting here is that if I show off my V—– on a home made porn video and make it public, I will become a star and appear on Vogue. Really? Don’t cater to her narcissism and exhibitionism needs. She is nobody and either is he.

  14. 39
    jstntm Says:

Don’t forget to go to the Vogue site and let them know your comments about this outrageous decision by Anna Wintour to feature these two freak show clowns on Vogue’s cover.

    @ Helene Says:

There are billions of people on this earth – find someone actually worthy of your time and admiration.

Kim is not a model, and living a lavish lifestyle is not a job, and not something to admire. Frankly, Kim’s influence is a disease. Young women should not be encouraged to do pornography, butcher their bodies and faces, and marry a series of men, all to “live a lavish lifestyle.” Her only influence on fashion is a constant parade of “what not to wear.”

Women are an amazing, talented bunch. Kim is only a disgrace to women, the lowest of the low. And Anna is pathetic for fawning over Kayne – another example of a waste of talent, an enormous ego, and someone who does nothing for anyone but himself.

  16. 41
    essie Says:

wow Vogue has definitely lost its lustre….. it is now a fashion book for reality stars

  17. 42
    Scarlett Says:

@@ Helene: I agree with everything you just posted. Kim K. is not a role model for young women…this is not the vacuous, empty and insubstantial persona that we want young women to emulate. Trust me on this.

  18. 43
    essie Says:

all the cover needs is the tagline ‘Kim tries on wedding dresses, they’re just like us!’

  19. 44
    Coy Says:

I agree with a comment earlier, people posting disgusting & bizarre messages of opinion, not fact, about celebrities is pathetic. It’s nothing new for people receive accolades they do not deserve. I’ve never thought to post a message against them. It never dawned on me. Probably because I haven’t been emotionally attached to celebrities since I was in high school, that and…perhaps I’m further along on the evolution scale. lol. Seems weird.

Any way, I just wanted to point out. that more than likely, for every negative comment made on FB or where ever. There are two fans actually purchasing the magazine. You’re not reading about the people who are purchasing. People can cancel their subscriptions but guaranteed they’ll re-subscribe within 6 months. Memories are short and Old habits die hard. But really, carry own. It seems that this is fulfilling something in your souls. lol.

  20. 45
    Red Says:

Kim is a ***** and Anna is a sellout…from this point on Vogue is over!

  21. 46
    scallywag Says:

Of course the more conspicuous question, especially over at ‘Conde Nasty’ is by succumbing to the mundane and downtrodden is whether the journal’s pedigree by intimation has taken a major tumbling down the aspirational blocks or whether the outlet felt compelled to relent in the hope of remaining tabloid relevant as the media world all round has to reinvent itself given our society’s vigilant absorption of the trite and banal?

Never mind pimp momma Kris Jenner just said yes to the September cover…

  22. 47
    Boo to Vogue Says:

Obviously Kanye paid for this cover.

  23. 48
    Carla Says:

VOGUE has officially hit rock bottom

  24. 49
    Lisa Says:

Congrats Kim! North is beautiful. All you haters are miserable and pathetic

  25. 50
    Puke Says:

Even Miley Cyrus would have been a better choice, but was rejected. At least she has a personality and a better body for modeling clothes. Kim K. is a vapid, shallow idiot who thinks she’s alot thinner than she is.
