Scarlett Johansson to 'WSJ': I 'Selfishly' Want a Career & Family

Scarlett Johansson is glowing on the cover of WSJ. Magazine‘s April 2014 issue, on newsstands April 5.

Here’s what the 29-year-old pregnant Captain America actress had to share with the mag:

On wanting a family and a career: “It seems so stressful to not be able to spend time with your family because you’re constantly chasing the tail of your own success. There must exist a world in which I can balance those things, be able to raise a family and still make a film a year, or work on my own, develop things, do theatre. I want to be able to have it all. Selfishly.”

On double standards for men: “With [male actors] it just doesn’t happen that way. You can be every woman’s fantasy, and nobody thinks twice about the fact that you have eight kids or whatever.”

On taking roles in big blockbusters: “I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I wanted to stretch myself physically, out of my comfort zone, and still succeed. I’m probably like most actors. We have huge egos, and you want to know you can be successful, no matter what. I don’t to be pigeonholed in one genre or budget or whatever.”

I don’t even like her but why is that selfish. No one ever says that about men with children and a career.

I usually think she is overrated in looks but this cover is stunning. She looks like one of those glamourous Vogue models from the 70s.

@cate: No one called it selfish except her self. God it isn’t men’s fault they are treated a certain way it’s the media so I don’t really see why the men are unfair it’s the media. Change doesn’t happen by sitting in a interview it happens by action. Also I find it sicken that this woman thinks the worse thing is to be not able to be seen as “sexy” when she has kids. There are women in the world who will be killed for just being a women and yet she complains about petty things. First world issues I guess. They seem to get more attention then the real issues and it’s getting tiresome.

can’t say jewish american princess? or was it the abbreviation for a person from the island of japan.

She looks beautiful, wow!

It’s not an easy thing to balance having a career and having a family. My only concern is that when one does have a family will they allow their career to be a priority and sacrifice the emotional needs of their family. If a person does not put family first as a priority they should not be surprised that problems arise.

traditionally it’s the woman that sacrifices her career to care for children home and husband. granted she’s no huge award winning star but a decent if high matamence actress. she could take advice from Joanne Woodward or Vanessa Redgrave both of whom admitted to feeling guilty that their children had nannies growing up while they were working

This is the best pic I have seen of her (didn’t read the interview).

Woody A. I read comments just to be able to see funny ones like yours.! awesome!!

That’s not selfish.
