Solange Knowles Is Full of Color in 'Harper's Bazaar' Feature!

Solange Knowles shows a bit of color for a feature in Harper’s Bazaar‘s April issue, out on newsstands on Tuesday (March 25)!

Here’s what the 27-year-old singer had to share with the mag:

On her decision to be an artist: “My parents constantly tried to talk me out of being an artist. They had gone through the whole journey with my sister and just wanted me to have a normal teenage life.”

On going through divorce: “In a lot of ways, emotionally and mentally, I feel far older than 27. Just going through a marriage and a divorce—which I essentially did by 21—will give you an insane amount of perspective on life.”

On moving from Brooklyn to New Orleans: “I’ve thought about moving to New Orleans for years but just never had the courage to do it. Now my son is at that age where he’s really establishing friends and a community, so I feel like this is a good time to try it out. I consider myself a dual citizen at this point.”

We love giving stupid people a platform. Just because you moved from one state to another doesn’t make you a duel citizen. Having citizenship in two different countries makes one a duel citizen. Also, didn’t realize she was an artist. Does she draw?

Don’t know anything about her but I do think that she has a very cool, funky vibe. The pics are pretty.

As for the “dual citizenship” comment, she obviously meant that she felt part of two different communities — it was a play off of the idea of actual dual citizenship. I thought it expressed her feelings nicely. No need to parse someone’s language so finely to make a snarky comment.

She’s SO much more interesting in my opinion than her sister. She seems to take chances based not on “stage” image but, on what she herself feels is right for her. For instance, her hair. I remember her appearing on Oprah sporting an inch long fro after chopping her hair off and it was gorgeous! Kept waiting for her to “wig or weave it” but she never did and that was like 3+ years ago. Beyoncé? I think it was all of two days before she began the return of the flowing golden lock’s weave and it was because she is more concerned with how others image her. I hope Solange loves NOLA. Their mom is from there and so it probably isn’t going to be totally new for her.
