Eva Mendes to 'Flare': 'I Don't Like Feeling Like I'm on Display'

Eva Mendes gets a closeup on her gorgeous face on the cover of Flare magazine’s May 2014 issue, on newsstands April 14.

Here’s what the 40-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On body baring clothes: “I don’t like when it’s just me and I’m not working. I don’t like feeling like I’m on display. It’s not that I’m against body-conscious clothes: I have worn them on the red carpet or out, but when I’m photographed in them, I always regret it. For me, it’s always been the easy way out. When I wear something a little more revealing, I think, Oh, gosh, I should have been more creative.”

On her famous head wraps: “They’re an easy way for me to feel pulled together, even when I’m not. Some kind of scarf or a mini-turban situation. That finishes a not-so-great outfit and polishes up the look a bit.”

On choosing her clothes: “It’s an important part of my day, what I choose to wear and put out there in the world. I also have to remember that I probably will be photographed at the gas pump.”

On her mom’s critiques: “She’s usually on the money. If she doesn’t like something, I can usually see why: it didn’t photograph well or looked weird around the waist.”

    why Says:

There’s nothing about her style that stands out or set any trends. It’s as dull and forgettable as the rest of her. Why does she have a fashion line?

    KeepDreamin' Says:

@why: If you feel this way about her why read up and follow her??? Obviously you do, (follow her) stating that nothing about her style stands out. You can’t say that after seeing one or a few pictures. Why does she have a fashion line? Because she’s classy. No other actress/entertainer has had a more successful clothing line. Read it and weep you loser. Have to put down someone you don’t know shows where you are in life. I feel sorry for you. #karmabiotch

    ProofIsInThePudding Says:

@jo: Well you should know, calling it out like that. I personally saw her a few weeks ago in Cerritos, and she has had no work done. She looked aged, like we all do at 40. I have a picture to prove it, what do you have??? #jealousmuch

    Lisa Says:

@KeepDreamin’: Thank you Keep Dreaming’, I read that too. I LOVE her clothes. She IS a classy lady. Her clothing line will be around for a while. Sorry Why, but read it and weep, because she sells out all the time. I don’t know about you, but that tells me it’s a SUCCESSFUL clothing line. Ha!

@Trans: Hey dumb f**k, that’s not Botox, it’s photoshop. They do it to every actor in a magazine. To smooth out wrinkles and blemishes. Lmao, idiot.

Been reading different stories on this site, and I think it’s cute how quickly loyal fans are to defend who they admire. Good for them. Here’s to more good than evil in this world!

    Lovely, just lovely

    Bluebelle Says:

Some of her fans on here are quite cruel and mean actually. They’ll attack anyone with a different opinion. I’m not saying trashing someone is ok, because it’s not. But whenever someone addresses a different opinion in a non trashing way, they go into full attack, unprovoked.

    JustSayin' Says:

@Bluebelle: I know. Some fans, not just hers, take things so personally. Crazy how people think they KNOW her, whether it’s defending her or putting her down. I don’t get it. Some Celebrities have fans threatening to kill their beloved actor/entertainers haters. Blows my mind every time.

    BeNice Says:

If we all stick with the old adage ” if you ain’t got nothing nice to say, don’t say nothing at all” it would be a better place. I am with #6 on this one. If you don’t like someone, why read up on them and comment? Just doesn’t make too much sense. But we all know haters exist, not only with celebrities, but with every day people. Sad.

This woman can make a potato sac work. She’s beautiful.

    NotLovatics Says:

@Bluebelle: Really? They seemed tamed compared to Demi’s fans wishing Kathy Griffin cancer and death. And it wasn’t unprovoked, you diss my favorite actor and I’ll defend them. I won’t go to the extreme of wishing people bad, but calling them morons or idiots is not past me. Eva you’re beautiful, talented and I hope you nothing but success.
