David Letterman Retiring from 'Late Show' in 2015

David Letterman has announced that he will be retiring in 2015 from his long time talk show The Late Show with David Letterman.

Here is the statement from Les Moonves, CEO and President of CBS: “When Dave decided on a one-year extension for his most recent contract, we knew this day was getting closer, but that doesn’t make the moment any less poignant for us. For 21 years, David Letterman has graced our Network’s air in late night with wit, gravitas and brilliance unique in the history of our medium. During that time, Dave has given television audiences thousands of hours of comedic entertainment, the sharpest interviews in late night, and brilliant moments of candor and perspective around national events. He’s also managed to keep many celebrities, politicians and executives on their toes – including me. There is only one David Letterman. His greatness will always be remembered here, and he will certainly sit among the pantheon of this business. On a personal note, it’s been a privilege to get to know Dave and to enjoy a terrific relationship. It’s going to be tough to say goodbye. Fortunately, we won’t have to do that for another year or so. Until then, we look forward to celebrating Dave’s remarkable show and incredible talents.”

The Late Show with David Letterman has been on the air since August 30, 1993, and has remained on the air steadily since then.

David is known for his celebrity guests, hilarious top 10 lists, and his New York City presence.

I had a feeling this would happen this year. The times, they are a changing. I’ve been watching him for 30 years : ( He will probably disappear from the business completely just the way Johnny Carson did when he retired.

He has been bored at this job for at least the past 10 years. Uninspiring questions; even though he got the best celeb guests.

He helped get Obama elected twice so what’s left for him.

No.4; True. But two shots to the head is often times what it takes to die and then become born again.

I will truly miss him. He is the greatest. I would rather watch re-runs of his show than new ones of the other late night guys. Always such a great rapport with his guest.

Craig Ferguson would be great to take his place

Craig Ferguson could replace Dave , if he gets rid of that stupid skeleton sidekick.

Is he being kicked out or is it voluntary?
