John Oliver Was Approached By CBS to Host a Late Night Show!

John Oliver was approached by CBS to potentially host a late night show in the 12:30 time slot currently occupied by Craig Ferguson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 36-year-old British comedian successfully filled in for Jon Stewart over the summer as the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and the execs at CBS started conversations with John‘s reps shortly after the run ended.

While the talks didn’t pan out - John decided to instead host a weekly satirical show on HBO – this shows that CBS might need to get a replacement for both The Late Show and The Late Late Show.

Craig‘s contract ends at the end of 2014 and it is not currently known whether he will be renewing it or not. There is also the possibility that he could be promoted to host of The Late Show now that David Letterman will be leaving.
