'Captain America: Winter Soldier' End Credits Scenes Explained!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released in theaters today in the United States and it is set to make records this weekend at the box office. Lots of people though are probably wondering what was up during those end credits scenes.

The movie is set to make a huge amount of money over the weekend with safe estimates being placed at around $93 million, though it has a chance of grossing over $100 million.

The first Captain America film was a modest success, but this film is expected to do way better at the box office due to the help of the mega-hit film The Avengers, as well as the positive reviews it is receiving.

In the first scene shown during the closing credits, we are introduced to Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, played by Thomas Kretschmann. The character is one of the leaders of HYDRA and in the scene he talks about the fall of both S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA, “two sides of the same coin that no longer hold any currency,” according to Yahoo.

Von Strucker is then seen checking out the weapons that he has, which include Loki’s mind-controlling scepter that he used in The Avengers, as well as “The Twins,” who happen to be Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). They will be seen in the upcoming film The Avengers: Age of Ultron as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, respectively.

We see that the twins are in a two-sided glass cell and both look like they’re a mess. Pietro has a shaggy haircut and can’t control his sudden bursts of speed while Wanda is sitting on the floor quietly working on her “dangerous hexes.” Von Strucker declares that the “age of miracles” has arrived and then the scene ends with a floating object that Wanda created suddenly exploding.

There is a second end credits scene after the final scrolling credits end. We see a Captain America exhibit at the Smithsonian museum and are taken to the section of the exhibit dedicated to James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, the WWII buddy of the Cap. There is a man reading the exhibit and we then see that it is actually Bucky (Sebastian Stan) himself checking it out. Reports are saying that this could lead the character to be a good guy in the next film.

    u have to be a dumb ass not to know

  • jon m’shulla

    This was truly a great movie out of Hollywood. Rarely have I seen a big budget movie done better.

  • roronette

    It’s not about being dumb or not, I think these explanations are meant for people who are not familiar with the Marvel universe.

  • Linda Tuttle

    My brother who was with me at the theater last night and read all the comic books as a boy, said Bucky does become a good guy, and Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are the son and daughter of Magneto from X Men.

  • David

    If you have read anything from Brubaker and his run in the Winter Soldier you know why Bucky is looking at the board in the Smithsonian. It is not clear but my guess would be is to set up for post Civil War where Bucky takes up the mantle of Captain America after the “death” of Steve Rogers. Showing Loki’s scepter and Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are setups for The Avengers 2 The Age of Ultron. Sadly with Fox owning the X Men license Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will not be referred to as Magneto’s children even though they are.

    @Linda Tuttle: Awesome!!!

    @Linda Tuttle:
    The name Wendy was made up for the book Peter Pan. (is wanda’s mum?). Waiting to see the ending!

  • upest ending

    No storyline with spiderman and x-men, that killed phase 2&3 and whole next movies. Not northstar and his sister? Even this twins is very dangerous five times than quicksilver and witch??? Screw whole movies. Phase one will be good memories but whole of phases. I want reboot and quit crying over other stuidos, just do teamwork or whatever to take all heroes in marvel universe storyline. PERIOD

  • Barbara

    Yeah that was my main confusion because for the xmen movie there is already a quicksilver character, I couldn’t imagine who else it would be other than magnetos kids, but that detail made me doubt my xmen knowledge. Polaris is his daughter so wonder why leave her out….to many characters probably. Damn studio rights

  • caldrington

    Polaris is NOT Magneto’s daughter. Get your facts straight!

  • Havok

    Lorna Dane (Polaris) IS the daughter of Magneto. Uncanny X-Men #431.
