Kristen Bell is Just Jared's Spotlight Shoot This Week (Pics & Video!)

Kristen Bell is far from ‘frozen’ as she soaks up the sun in this new exclusive pic from the latest edition of the Just Jared Spotlight series.

The 33-year-old actress just had the biggest hit of her career with the animated movie Frozen, which is now the highest grossing animated movie of all time. Her crowd-funded flick Veronica Mars was a big hit with fans last month and will be hitting Blu-ray and DVD on May 6. Adding to Kristen‘s busy career is her Showtime series House of Lies, which just wrapped its third season last weekend.

In our exclusive interview with Kristen, she talks about how she first met husband Dax Shepard, the way her daughter Lincoln reacts to music, the progress she has made with the #NoKidsPolicy campaign, and her favorite person to follow on Twitter.

Make sure to watch behind the scenes footage from the photo shoot in the video below!

Kristen Bell Interview – JustJared.com Exclusive

Just Jared: Congratulations on Frozen, it’s the highest grossing animated film ever!

Kristen Bell: Yeah, it’s insane! It’s really exciting.

JJ: Are you planning on doing more family films now that you have your daughter, Lincoln?

KB: Yes and no. I certainly would love to do work that she will see and enjoy soon-ish. But I don’t feel like my choices as an actress will necessarily change. Even when I do sexy, dark comedy stuff like House of Lies, I won’t stop doing that kind of stuff. She’ll just have to wait until she’s older if she ever sees it.

JJ: From what your parents instilled in you, what will you be instilling upon your daughter?

KB: It’s hard to conceptualize helping a new human grow. It feels like a lot of pressure in many ways. One place that I lucked out is that my parents were always encouraging the fact that self worth starts with yourself. So it’s important for me to show my daughter that she has to be proud of herself before anyone else can be proud of her.

JJ: How did you and your husband Dax Shepard meet?

KB: We met at a [Detroit] Red Wings vs [LA] Kings hockey game, about seven years ago. We had previously been at a dinner party like two weeks prior, so we had been introduced but didn’t know each other. Then at the hockey game, we saw each other from across the room, and I said, “Oh I think we went to dinner.” And we just started talking and flirting and it was on!

JJ: Where did you guys go for your first date?

KB: We went to a restaurant in the Valley on Ventura called Firefly. But it was with a big group of my friends. We were texting at that point and I said, “Oh I’m out to dinner with my friends, do you want to come?” And he was like “sure.”

JJ: What is the most romantic thing Dax has done for you?

KB: Wow… Being the father of my child is pretty romantic. It’s hard to pick one thing because he’s pretty good to me on a daily basis. We don’t not celebrate Valentine’s Day, but at the same time, I think we’re both believers in the fact that let’s spread the love the whole year. Let’s not just have one designated day to celebrate our relationship. Or let’s not have one moment. We try to kind of do it each and every day. And he does a really good job at doing that.

JJ: What’s your favorite music to listen to nowadays?

KB: I’ve been really into kind of smooth R&B jams, like Van Hunt and Sade. I think, I don’t know if it’s because the household is chaotic with the baby and it slows things down. That or Motown.

JJ: Does the baby react to certain kinds of music when you play it?

KB: Yeah, she loves a good 70s funk groove. “Being a Girl” by Van Hunt, I think is her favorite song. It really, it tends to move her body.

JJ: Do you have any favorite TV shows that you keep up with?

KB: Yeah, I’m currently watching Naked and Afraid, on Discovery Channel, which is blowing my mind! They set a man and a woman in the middle of nowhere and tell them to survive for 21 days with nothing. It’s really fascinating. I also DVR Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule, which is on Adult Swim. It’s like a spin-off of the Tim and Eric show, which is a very, very progressive subversive comedy. Those are my two favorites at the moment.

JJ: You recently took a survivor test!

KB: I took my PSR. It’s called the Primitive Survival Rating. On the Discovery Channel website, you can take what your primitive survival rating skill set would be, which is how they rate the contestants on Naked and Afraid. You’re asked if you can build a fire without a lighter, you’re asked a bunch of questions like, “Could you kill a mouse to survive?” and “How can you build your own shelter?” I scored pretty high, but I think they’re pretty easy on the website. I don’t think I could actually survive on the show.

JJ: Any favorite movies that you’ve seen recently?

KB: Hmm… I haven’t seen a movie in a while. I liked all the Oscar films this year. I was really impressed with a lot of them. I loved American Hustle. I really loved Philomena. I thought it was a really good year for award show movies.

JJ: Favorite food?

KB: I’m a foodie, so that’s a really, really hard question. Probably spicy tomato sauce, on almost anything. I make a really good Arrabbiata.

JJ: Is that your go-to whenever you have to cook something, like for friends? Or what’s your go to dish?

KB: It depends on what’s in season. I try to cook seasonally, to be conscientious of the earth. But I’m really good at making a salad not seem like a salad. Putting in like with sauteed broccoli noir. I make a really good artichoke as well.

JJ: Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter?

KB: Rob Delaney, hands down. He makes me laugh more than I want to admit. More than I’m comfortable admitting. I live for his tweets.

JJ: Do you have a favorite joke that you’ve recently seen on his Twitter?

KB: (laughs) I mean, there are so many. I think I would butcher it if I quoted it. But I’m reading his book right now, which I’d also butcher the title, but it’s called like “Rob Delaney: Mother. Wife. Sister. Human. Warrior. Falcon. Yardstick. Turban. Cabbage.” Which is sort of his spoof on people’s bios on Twitter.

JJ: The #NoKidsPolicy, where are we with that? Are we over the hurdles? Or are there more to jump?

KB: There will always be hurdles as long as there is media and there are people in the spotlight having children. I have been so impressed at the things we’ve already overcome. Having huge entities like you guys and everyone else that’s joined, agree that, “Hey, kids should probably be off limits.” It’s just making conscious choices and saying, “Oh, let’s ask consent from the parents.” And so far, ABC across all platforms, and Good Morning America, and all of these pretty substantial media sources have come out publicly after you guys did. I’m impressed with the support. Now we’re asking the photo houses to basically stop purchasing the photos of children, so that when paparazzi are shooting families, they don’t really have any choice of where to sell it. It’s an ongoing battle but I think we’re making great headway.

JJ: Are there any new causes now that you want to get behind?

KB: Depends on the day. (smiles) I find a new one each week. I’ve been working a lot, since about nine months ago, with an organization called PATH, which is People Assisting the Homeless. I heard a statistic in Los Angeles that on any given night, there are 58,000 people that are homeless. And it struck me, and I was like, “What?! No thank you.” That’s my backyard! It isn’t a far fetched cause that I feel like I can’t relate too. There are 58,000 humans within a ten mile radius of me, sleeping in the street. I researched a bunch of different organizations and I found PATH was doing some pretty substantial work in that arena. So I’ve started to fund raise for them and offer time and money, and I’ve been really happy with that.
