Avril Lavigne Attends Event in Brazil After Video Controversy

Avril Lavigne hits the carpet while attending the opening of the new John John store on Oscar Freire Street on Tuesday (April 29) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The 29-year-old singer was mixed up in some controversy last week following the release of her music video for “Hello Kitty,” which some people called racist.

“RACIST??? LOLOLOL!!!” Avril wrote on Facebook in response to the controversy. “I love Japanese culture and I spend half of my time in Japan. I flew to Tokyo to shoot this video specifically for my Japanese fans, WITH my Japanese label, Japanese choreographers AND a Japanese director IN Japan.”

lol this is such a joke. everytime a white girl does something out of her culture its ‘racist’ yet Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and so many other black artists do it freely and nobody makes a big fuss about it. THATS the real racism.

She can do whatever she wants to do. Hello Kitty is just a Pop Song meant for her Japanese Fans. I can*t see anything wrong with it. People don’t understand that Avril Lavigne is just a free spirit. Who are we to judge?
