'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' Is Getting a Sequel!

Nia Vardalos and John Corbett are set to return for a sequel of their 2002 hit movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

“Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story. Of course a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true,” the 51-year-old actress shared to Variety.

The sequel centers on “the lovably loud Portokalos family who return after a family secret is revealed and a bigger, fatter wedding brings the big fat Greek family back together again.”

In case you didn’t know, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which had $5 million budget, grossed a whopping $368 million worldwide! The flick also led to a short-lived sitcom called My Big Fat Greek Life, which starred almost all of the film’s cast.

WHAT DO YOU THINK of a sequel for My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

  • liz

    Yes yes yes!!!

  • kassie

The 1st movie was great as it is, do NOT make a sequel to it, it will be terrible!!

  • ev

    great news

  • chelsea

if there’s any movie that needs a sequel, it’s this one! can’t wait to see what toula’s been up to!

  • Fresh

This was such a bad film. I believe Tom Hanks and his wife were behind it in the first place; they saw her play or something and proposed a film. It was during the time when films about non-traditional heroines (i.e. non-traditionally sized heroines) were popular and ‘revolutionary’ – Muriel’s Wedding. Who’d pay to see something like this today? I don’t see it, personally, but the pro-marketers might think different. Chick films are all about glamour now.

I thought it was a really good little rom-com, one of the better ones back then. A sequel could be fun, though the lack of originality in Hollywood is ridiculous. Action and superhero movies and sequels. No wonder nothing at the theaters interests me.

  • Steph

Sure, cuz both of them are out of a job

  • Floritsa Gomez

How disgusting that this garbage can get a sequel and thousands of other scripts that are actually original are ignored. I hope this is a complete financial bomb. Cronyism needs to be eliminated.

  • ladyb

Oh please, it was great movie ….but wait a sequel? Seriously? NV is looking for a job.

  • JKD

@ladyb: or hollywood is just completely out of ideas…

  • Fercat

Shailene Woodley needs to be cast here. Either as a young Nia Vardalos or her offspring.

Hm, what about My Life in Ruins?
What is also a kind of sequel of My big fat Greek Wedding? I’m confused.

  • baby

    @ Silb:
That’s what I was thinking. Life in Ruins sucked, so I am pretty sure this sequel will suck too. Really, I don’t understand Hollywood. Why do they make so many damn sequels? Do they think that EVERY movie is Before Sunrise? I swear, that was the only movie that deserved sequels….

Ancient history…I kind of feel like having a Greek yogurt right now…

  • Rocky

Didn’t think much of the first one.

  • great news!!

haters are gonna hate.. they are stupid haha… the movie was awesome!! I laughed so hard!! And I can’t wait for the second movie!!!!!

  • Raphael

I think it will be a mistake to make a sequel!

  • Toni

I love this movie… It almost mimics my life. I’m full blooded Sicilian so, I can relate in every way. Funny thing is, when this movie came out I had people stopping me everywhere asking if I was Nia Vardalos or telling me that I look just like her. I take it as a compliment. I would love to meet her someday. The sequel to this movie will be great!!
