Angelina Jolie Says Most Fans Are 'Wonderful,' Won't Change Security After Vitalii Sediuk Attack

Angelina Jolie opened up about her fiance Brad Pitt‘s red carpet attack at the Maleficent premiere by Ukrainian prankster Vitalii Sediuk last week.

“People like that are an exception to the rule,” the 38-year-old actress told the Associated Press about the attack. “Most fans are just wonderful. We’ve had a wonderful experience over the years, and we’re very grateful for their support, and it will not change the way we behave.”

Angelina also added that Brad is a “strong man” who handled the situation “perfectly.”

In case you missed it, read Brad‘s statement on the attack.

Ho please, a “strong man” who has his team of paid goons gang up on an unarmed, defenseless guy, tackle him so that he gets a shot at kicking him? If that’s the case then Justin Bieber is a man’s man. PFFFFFFF!

And of course Ho won’t change her diminutive fanbase for anything in the world. Let’s remember she once bragged about being the actress most likely to sleep with her female fans, and I bet she still take the non-loons from time to time. No Hoveround heffas like the ones posting here though. She knows they provided support in the smear campaign she orchestrated against Jen, but deep down she hates their guts enough to being the first to refer to them as “loons”. LOL.

It’s incredibly irresponsible from Jared to continue the misinformation campaign about the incident with Vitali. There was no “red carpet attack” whatsoever. Nobody was in danger, and the only one who got hurt was Vitali, due to an irrational overreaction from a vapid celebrity who lacks sense of humor. If I didn’t know what JJ’s ties to the Brand are, then I’d be confused about why the self-proclaimed “unbiased good guy blogger” has it out for a casual celebrity prankster.

Angelina Jolie Against the Hollywood Grain
    ==================================
    .
Mark Politi on June 1, 2014.
    .
Hollywood has certainly captured the attention of fans worldwide and done so with seemingly bottomless bankrolls partnered with behind the scenes talent of producers and directors as well as camera talent of the likes of Angelina Jolie. The daughter of actor Jon Voight, she broke into the movie business at the age of seven with a part in the 1982 film Lookin’ to Get Out. Since then she has appeared in 43 additional movies. There are several aspects to her talent, but one of the rarest setting her apart from her silver screen colleagues is that she insists on doing much of her own stunt work, and she has the scars to prove it. Doing her own Hollywood stunts goes remarkably against the grain and against the advice of everyone around her, who by now after 32 years in the business, must realize that their warnings to Jolie fall upon deaf ears.
    .
The 2014 Maleficent star has been a consistent Hollywood A-Lister since her career broke out in the movie Girl, Interrupted in 1999 and since then has commanded one of the industry’s highest actress salaries
    .
. Her ability to bring national attention to nearly any social issue, along with her monetary success, has her ranked by Forbes as the most powerful actress on the celebrity A-List.
    .
Spearheading her to this stature is Jolie’s strength of her own personal character and her willingness and temerity to dance to the beat of a different drummer, which in general is usually alright with Hollywood as long as they are playing the drums.
    .
The celebrity she is and the notoriety she has attained, has allowed her to explore in a very meaningful way, her desire to influence public sentiment related to social issues important to her in order to make a difference on a grand scale.
    .
In 2001, another side of Jolie was awakened when she was making the film, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider on location in Cambodia. Witnessing first hand the plight of refugees in this war-torn region, she became actively involved with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR. She spent the next 10 years continuing humanitarian work in more than 30 countries. Part of that work was documented in her book, Notes from My Travels, published in 2003.
    .
Within this period of time, in in 2001 she adopted the first of her children as a single mother. Then in 2005 she became involved with fellow celebrity A-Lister, Brad Pitt, with whom she co-starred in the hit action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith and started a blended family of three adopted children and three conceived with Pitt which include a set of twins. Only the first of her children was able to meet her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died at the age of 56 from ovarian cancer in January 2007
    .
It would later be medically determined that Jolie carried the BRCA-1 gene putting her at an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. Rather than take the chance and subject her children to a life without their mother, in February 2013 she proactively went forward with a preventive double mastectomy. That decision, undoubtedly not an easy one, only added to her persona as a woman of inner strength and power. In May 2013 she went public about her surgery in an effort to increase women’s awareness of their options.
    .
While the Hollywood elite continue to capture the hearts and minds of fans across the globe with their fantastic movie roles, lucrative and arguably narcissistic lifestyles, one would be very hard pressed to make such an accusation of narcissism against Ms. Jolie, who obviously cares little about which way the Hollywood grain happens to be leaning and more about life’s bigger picture. Her personal and professional schedules remain busy and fans will be pleased to know that one of her recent roles as Evelyn Salt is in the planning stages to be brought back to the big screen in Salt 2.

Why Maleficent Is the Most Interesting Movie in Multiplexes at the Moment
    ========================================================

    .
You could call her a princess of sorts — the young lady, friend to all who live in the magickal moors. She’s a mediator and defender, and she carries the trust of all. But there’s no patriarchal apparatus in place here, and everyone seems to be getting along just fine … but for the human kingdom across the way. Humanity is suspicious of magic and critters and non-patriarchal structures, and they’re not going to accept this detente forever. But that’s okay, because young Maleficent can ford any attack they may make against the realm.
    .
The moors are a strange and lovely place, an Ul de Rico take on Clive Barker’s Midian as filtered through a Maxfield Parrish Dragon Age. It serves as a much nicer habitat than the human kingdom, as the humans’ sense of industry has led only to the development of metals and misery. There’s something about the cosmology of Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent that couldn’t help but make me think of Avery Crounse’s Eyes of Fire, a sui generis 1983 tale of paganism and witchery in pre-Revolutionary War America that got at the very real tensions between superstitious humanity and the many variants of eldritch forces in the world.
    .
To the closed-minded, everything that can’t be explained by whatever parents and governments told them must seem like dark magic. But love is the kind of weird thing that can bridge prejudices and assumptions that span countless generations, the kind of magic that even we in the modern age of drones, Citizens United, and dead penguins can see as a transformative power. And like everything that is, at heart, awesome, it can also be used as a weapon against us.
    .
At the heart of the story of Maleficent is an act of horrifying betrayal — using love, or what seems like it, as an instrument of brutality. Angelina Jolie has always been a staunch advocate for art that allows women to express and move beyond emotional and physical trauma (see her visceral and strangely underrated/underseen directorial debut In The Land of Blood and Honey for further evidence), and she vests what could have been a silly muddying of classic material (ahem, Cat in the Hat) with real emotional stakes.
    .
At every flawless stiletto step of the way, this is a film that fights back against traditionally accepted narratives that disempower women. Jolie’s Maleficent, in her battle scenes against the armies of human exploiters, isn’t just an inspirational symbol or abstract figurehead for the forest’s array of tree warriors and wood-dragons. She puts wing to wind and messes some **** up. If it weren’t for the commercially necessary PG rating, I don’t doubt we’d have seen her go full Starship Troopers and decapitate some warriors with the force of her wings.
    .
That certainly isn’t necessary (and it would seem gratuitous). On the other hand, it’s damned refreshing to see a woman righteously kick some ass and not have to show off the groceries while she does it (300: Rise of an Empire, I’m looking at you). Remember Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow, one of the first films to shoot on completely computer generated backgrounds? It had a great cast and some exceptional effects. But it didn’t come to life until Angelina Jolie showed up in an eye patch and a general’s uniform and started dispatching amphibious squadrons to cry havoc and adjust the axis of power.
    .
Maleficent the film is many things, but above all it is a platform for Angelina Jolie to stretch the wings of her special ability — her gung-ho full-tilt commitment to making the unreal and virtual into the concrete — at feature length. Disney villains have often been a way for viewers who don’t necessarily respond to the Princess/Prince path in life to find some enjoyment, with their villainy not excused but sometimes mitigated by their excessive joie de vivre. (Certainly Ursula from The Little Mermaid and 101 Dalmatians’ Cruella de Vil fit this bill.) Jolie’s Maleficent, to quote the current turn of phrase, is everything. She’s a hero, a villain, a fighter, a lover, a teacher, a fashion plate, a smasher of the patriarchy, a drag queen, and a righteous avenger of the horrifying things that have been done to The Other throughout history.
    .
Usually, calling a film a quilt is a pejorative statement, indicating that there were too many different aesthetics and objectives calling shots in the mix, with the end result feeling like a film at odds with itself. But the quilt that is Maleficent is another kind of achievement. Though ideologies, motivations, and performances shift from one scene to the next, it all adds up to something dazzling and overwhelming. Jolie is the engine that drives the film and the central force of will that allows those disparate elements to maintain their orbit. You really have to go back to Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest to find a central role this fearless and operatic.
    .
What I want — besides to see Maleficent again, and soon — is for Angelina Jolie to pop up as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race next season, because this film is a master class in gender performance. If there’s a better moment in film this year than Jolie, in full dark-faerie regalia, walking through a sylvan scene, peeking into a window at an adorable little baby, and deadpanning, “I hate you,” then that is something I want to see. Repeatedly.

Jolie ‘thrills’ at box office success of ‘Maleficent’
    =====================================
    .
    Agence France-Presse June 6, 2014 7:19 June 6, 2014 7:19
    .
Actress Angelina Jolie said Tuesday she was thrilled her latest film “Maleficent”, a modern retelling of the life of Sleeping Beauty’s arch-nemesis, had debuted at the top of the box office.
    .
“Maleficent” raked in nearly $70 million in North America over the past weekend. The movie not only casts Jolie in the title role as the malevolent fairy but was also produced by the star.
    .
“This type of film is really one you do for the audience. It thrills me that people are enjoying it and it’s a success,” she told a news conference in Shanghai, where she is promoting the movie before its mainland China opening on June 20.
    .
China had the world’s second largest box office at $3.6 billion last year, behind only North America, according to the Motion Picture Association of America. It has attracted a steady stream of Hollywood stars promoting their works.
    .
Jolie said she would welcome the chance to work with a Chinese director, but she hoped her own career would shift away from just acting to working behind the camera.
    .
“In the future, I will be doing less acting and more directing if I’m fortunate enough to have that career,” she said. Her directing credits include “In the Land of Blood and Honey” about the Bosnian war.
    .
But the actress said she hoped to play the character Maleficent again and admitted taking home a souvenir of the film — the curly, black horns from her costume.
    .
Jolie was accompanied by her partner, the actor Brad Pitt, and three children on her first visit to China, where they visited a contemporary art museum and her children learnt to make Chinese “dim sum” pastry and dumplings.

We sat down with Palestyle’s Zeina Abou Chabaan to find out what motivates her to keep producing sustainable ready-to-wear, accessories and bags season after season. When the design-loving siblings Zeina and Ahmed Abou Chabaan teamed up to launch a label five years ago, they were driven by their conscience and not by profit. Capitalising on the skills of artisans across the region, their brand ¬Palestyle is all about paying back to the communities that help produce its collections. We delved deeper to discover how the co-owner, Zeina, is “empowering women, one thread at a time”.
    .
I founded the business in 2009 along with my brother Ahmed who is the brand’s creative director. My inspiration was a visit to refugee camps in Lebanon. It was my first encounter with refugee life and I quickly understood what harsh living it was. We’re talking thousands of people living on top of each other in a one-kilometre- square space – that’s pretty intense. The basic infrastructure was very poor, from water and sewerage to electricity systems. On top of that, there were no job opportunities for these educated communities. However, I did meet many inspirational women there, who were doing embroidery, spreading their culture, Arab heritage and generating a source of income at the same time. Through their talent they were being ¬empowered.
    .
Question- Which other celebrity ambassadors would you welcome?
Answer- I would love Angelina Jolie. One reason being, she represents refugees with her work with the UN, so that’s a perfect match.
Secondly she’s a very good example of a hard-working, feminine woman who has clear values and causes. That’s what Palestyle is all about. We’re dressing fashionistas with big hearts, to make a difference and a social impact.

8 Reasons Why Maleficent And Daenerys Targaryen Are Basically The Same Person
    ==============================================================
    .
by Andrew Hunter 3 June 2014
    .
This past weekend was a big one for us nerds. Friday marked the release date for Disney’s Maleficent, the dark origin story of the Disney universe’s most terrifying villain. Secondly, it was Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones (‘The Mountain and the Viper’) that featured the highly anticipated showdown between Prince Oberyn Martell and the Mountain. To the relief of devoted source material-preaching geeks far and wide, both Walt Disney Pictures and HBO proved their worth immensely. Too bad things ended on a different note for one of the most likeable characters in all of Westeros… tragically, that’s just George R. R. Martin’s style.
    .
Upon visiting the theatres to watch Maleficent and curling up on the couch to bask in the awesomeness that was ‘The Mountain and the Viper’, you will have stumbled upon two fascinating realities. First, the cost of movie tickets is becoming astronomically high. Second, the characters of Maleficent and Daenerys Targaryen have way too many things in common. Like, they’re basically the same person.
    .
Need convincing? Let’s compare one Disney villainess who we love to hate with one little Targaryen who everyone just loves. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below to share your take on these two characters’ similarities!
    .
    8. They’re Both Loners And They’re Never Invited Anywhere
    ————————————————————-
Basically every trial and tribulation that occurs in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty is due to King Stefan and Queen Leah’s somewhat shady decision to not invite Maleficent to Princess Aurora’s birthday celebration. On the one hand, yeah, we get that Stefan and Leah are hesitant to throw The Mistress of All Evil an invite to their daughter’s shindig.
    .
On the other hand, it’s kind of a slap in the face for Maleficent, especially when every other freakin’ person in the kingdom would be making it out to the party. Had she received a pity invite, Maleficent probably wouldn’t have even gone because she’s too much of a recluse. But, hey, then we wouldn’t have a story.
    .
Similarly, Daenerys Targaryen is a bit of a loner as well. Between schlepping through the desert with her once husband and making plans to conquer King’s Landing, one can surmise that the Mother of Dragons doesn’t have the most hectic social calendar. She didn’t get an invite to Rob Stark’s (red) wedding, nor was her attendance requested at Joffrey’s (purple) wedding. It’s hard out there for a Targaryen.
    .
    7. They’re Both High-Born
    ———————————–
We don’t really know much about Maleficent’s past… or present, for that matter. All we do know is that upon crashing Aurora’s royal birthday celebration like a boss, she was addressed by Queen Leah as “Your Excellency.” That, and she has a sweet castle not too far from King Stefan’s. Chances are Walt Disney Pictures circa 1959 wasn’t too concerned with going in-depth about a villain’s backstory, so we’ll leave that to Robert Stromberg’s interpretation with Lady Cheekbones herself, Angelina Jolie, starring in the title role.
    .
Daenerys Targaryen is the only surviving heir of the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen. Therefore, she (arguably) has the most legitimate claim to the Iron Throne. (Depending on whom you ask, of course.) With her many fancy titles (e.g. Daenerys of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Princess of Dragonstone, Queen of Andals and the First Men, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons, Queen of Meereen, etc.), you know she’s the real deal. An OG, if you will.
    .
    6. They Both Have Mad Swag
    ———————————
Maleficent may be bitter, cruel and demented, but homegirl has style. She really made the same-one-outfit-all-the-time trend that Karl Lagerfeld, Vera Wang, Jean Paul Gaultier, etc. have picked up in the contemporary fashion arena. That black and purple cloak billowing in the wind could inspire fear in any charming prince or mythical creature and, aside from Lady Gaga, there aren’t many people who can pull off a headdress made complete with goat horns.
    .
A rough childhood, some twisted brotherly abuse, a shaky marriage and a rough jaunt through the desert has made Dany grow tougher, more confident and far more brave than the Dany we came to know at the beginning of the series. It would be easy to say that the little Targaryen that could has the most street cred out of all Game of Thrones characters. Also, her physical beauty is comparable to Helen of Troy and she’s rockin’ purple eyes. PURPLE. EYES. #SWAG
    .
    5. They Both Really Dislike The Monarchy
    ———————————————-
Unimpressed with not receiving an invite to Princess Aurora’s birthday celebration/christening thing, Maleficent crashes the party, throws King Stefan and Queen Leah shade then curses their newborn baby. No big deal. Can you imagine that happening to Prince William and Kate Middleton? Nah, they’d probably have far more capable security guards. And who could curse Prince George?
    .
Daenerys has one or two reasons to not be the biggest fan of the ruling house of Westeros (i.e. House Baratheon.) She is the last living offspring of the Targaryen family, the Westeros-ruling dynasty that was usurped by Robert Baratheon. Her eldest brother (Rhaegar Targaryen) was murdered by the hands of Robert Baratheon. Soon after, her crazy “Mad King” father (Aerys II Targaryen) was betrayed and murdered by Jaime Lannister, a member of his own Kingsguard. Dany firmly believes that she is the true ruler of the Seven Kingdoms and really, who can blame her?
    .
    4. They’re Both Lacking In The Critical Thinking Department
    —————————————————————-
Maleficent bestows her “gift” to Princess Aurora, a curse that will have the blonde beauty prick her finger on a spinning wheel on her sixteenth birthday and, ultimately, cause her untimely death. She doesn’t think to consider the three fairies, all of whom possessing magical powers of their own that have the potential to impose a threat to her flimsy plan. The idea of a curse lasting sixteen years is very elegant, sure, but a lot can happen between now and then. Maleficent may be the most evil person in the room, but she certainly isn’t the brightest.
    .
Meanwhile in Westeros, Dany takes a page out of Abraham Lincoln’s book and frees legions of slaves from Astapor. Awesome, right? But her altruistic endeavour hits a bit of a snag when it’s brought to her attention that without structure and order, the city and its people will spiral into lawless anarchy. We know you’re new at this, but is this not something you should have foreseen happening, Dany? I guess it’s the thought that counts.
    .
    3. They’re Both Pyromaniacs
    ————————————————————
As we are well aware, Maleficent knows how to make an entrance. When we first see her in Sleeping Beauty, she materialises in a pretty freakin’ sweet torrent of green fire. Even when Maleficent has Princess Aurora under a hypnotic spell prior to the infamous finger-pricking scene, it’s an orb of green flame that ominously guides the birthday girl to her not so eternal slumber. We see more of this flame in the third act, but we’ll get into that later.
    .
“I am Daenerys Stormborn and I will take what is mine with fire and blood,” said Daenerys Stormborn as she took stuff using fire and blood. Dany is a bit of a pyromaniac… and we love her for it. Whether it’s casually bathing in scalding hot water, sauntering into Khal Drogo’s blazing funeral pyre or when she is exposed to Drogon’s flame, she remains impervious to fire and extreme heat. I guess that’s where her whole “the Unburnt” title comes from. Allegedly, Dany even knows how to set fire to the rain. Wait, that might be Adele. Yeah. No, that’s definitely Adele
    .
    2. They Both Have Plucky Advisors, Sidekicks And Semi-Mute Supporters
    ———————————————————————————–
Maleficent’s right-hand man is actually her pet raven, Diablo. He plays a similar role to the Queen’s raven from Snow White, but Diablo is far more useful. He proves to be more of a confidante and assistant to Maleficent than a lackey. Diablo is the one who successfully locates Princess Aurora after Maleficent’s team of dim-witted goons divulge that they were searching for a baby for the entire sixteen years. As you can imagine, this failed logic did not sit well with the Mistress of All Evil.
Along the way, Daenerys has managed to accumulate her fair share of supporters. Jorah Mormont, an exiled knight and former head of House Mormont and Lord of Bear Island, has become Dany’s most trusted companion and advisor. He’s also the poster boy for being friend-zoned, so that’s something.
    .
Missandei, a former Naathi slave, is Dany’s personal servant. She’s pretty much the Tina Fey to Dany’s Amy Poehler. Interestingly, Missandei’s three brothers are among the Unsullied, an army of unquestionably loyal eunuch slave soldiers from Astapor that Dany now commands. She may be endorsing slavery, but at least Dany gave her crew of merry Unsullied the option of freedom before recruiting them for a perilous journey that would likely lead to their deaths. So, there’s that
    .
    1. MOTHERF^#*&@% DRAGONS
    ——————————————————-
You have to leave the best for last, right?
Upon discovering Diablo being turned into stone and Prince Philip making his escape, Maleficent becomes enraged. After attempting to strike down Philip with lightening bolts, she summons a forest of thorns to surround King Stefan’s castle. In one of the most iconic scenes in Disney history, Maleficent appears before Philip and TRANSFORMS INTO A F&$#@^& DRAGON. Spraying green flames (Battle of the Blackwater, anyone?) every which way, Maleficent engulfs the thorns with fire and Philip is driven backwards towards a cliff.
    .
SPOILER ALERT: Maleficent ends up being impaled with Philip’s sword and falls off a cliff, but at least she went down in a blaze of glory, right?
    .
Like she says right before walking into Khal Drogo’s burning funeral pyre: “No, no, my good knight, do not fear for me. The fire is mine. I am Daenerys Stormborn, daughter of dragons, bride of dragons, mother of dragons, don’t you see?” This pretty much sums it up for Dany’s symbiotic, motherly relationship with her three dragons, Viserion, Rhaegal and Drogon. SHE’S THE F*$^#%& MOTHER OF DRAGONS. Dany’s going to shower King’s Landing with fire, blood, Unsullied, etc. and take what (arguably) belongs to her! She just, y’know, has to get there first… good luck with that, kiddo! “Dracarys!”

Angelina Jolie says she, Pitt won’t change their security at events after red carpet incident
    =======================================================================

By: The Associated Press Tuesday, Jun. 3, 2014 at 6:19 AM
    .
SHANGHAI – Angelina Jolie says she and Brad Pitt won’t tighten their security policies during publicity events after he was accosted on the red carpet in Los Angeles.
    .
“People like that are an exception to the rule,” she explained. “Most fans are just wonderful. We’ve had a wonderful experience over the years, and we’re very grateful for their support, and it will not change the way we behave.” ”
    .
Jolie spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday while in Shanghai to promote “Maleficent,” the live-action retelling of “Sleeping Beauty.” Pitt and three of their six children travelled with her to China, and Jolie said the children were enjoying the trip.

“We went to the Long Museum for Contemporary Art,” she said. “They (the children) are having a dim sum class today and a lot of the local food. We love Chinese food anyway, so now we get to have the authentic Chinese food, and … they are having a wonderful time. Vivienne asked me not to go home today.”
    .
She also said Pitt is a “strong man” who handled the situation “perfectly” after he was accosted by a former Ukrainian television journalist at the film’s premiere last week. Vitalii Sediuk pleaded no contest to battery on Friday and was ordered to stay away from Pitt, Jolie and Hollywood red carpet events.
    .
“Maleficent” is the biggest box-office debut of Jolie’s career after earning nearly $70 million in North America last weekend. It opens in China on June 20.
    .
With more films being co-produced between Hollywood and China, Jolie said “of course” she would like to work with the talents in China.
    .
She said she’s admired the work of Taiwanese director Ang Lee. “I’m not sure if you consider Ang Lee Chinese, he’s Taiwanese but he does many Chinese-language films with many Chinese artists and actors, and I think his work and the actors in his films are the ones I’m most familiar with and are very fond of.”
    .
Jolie turns 39 on Wednesday, but says she doesn’t know how she will spend her birthday because Pitt and the children usually plan a surprise. As for her birthday wish, she said, “like every mother my wish every birthday is for my children to stay healthy (and) for my family to remain healthy, so I will continue that.”

The Hollywood FX Master Who Painted Angelina Jolie’s Eyeballs
    =================================================
    .
Visual effects in movies and TV usually involve more than meets the eye. But Cristina Patterson’s work is exactly what meets the eye. She hand-paints designs onto what she calls “a very, very tiny canvas”—a contact lens—to create crazy ocular looks for dozens of genre films. Without Patterson’s lenses, Angelina Jolie’s glare in Maleficent wouldn’t be nearly as menacing (nor would have Jamie Foxx’s as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2). Here, Patterson shares insight on some of her favorite “paintings.” Don’t blink.
    .
Maleficent (2014) To offset the titular character’s dark attire and hint at the brittleness within her, Patterson tried to evoke the colors in a geode: at least four blues, three greens, two oranges, and one pink.

Here’s 4 Movies Brad Pitt Is Producing. And They All Look Awesome
    ===================================================
    .
    by Stephanie Chase | 03 June 2014
    .
Fresh off ’12 Years A Slave’s’ Oscar victory, Brad Pitt has become one of Hollywood’s hottest producers, but could another Academy Award be on the horizon?
We’ll always know Brad Pitt best as an actor but he’s certainly been making waves behind he camera as of late. As a producer, Pitt and his company, Pan B Entertainment have been behind two Best Picture Oscar winners in recent years, The Departed and 12 Years A Slave. After the latter’s tremendous success, Pitt certainly looks to have the midas touch when it comes to his producing picks. But what’s next for Pitt and Plan B? Are the star and his company potentially sitting on a few more Oscar contenders?
    .
    True Story
    —————-
Scheduled for release later this year, True Story is, well, based on a true story. Starring Jonah Hill and James Franco, the film is adapted from the memoir of New York Times journalist Michael Finkel, who learned in 2002 that his identity was being used by serial killer Christian Longo. The killer and the journalist eventually come to a deal where Finkel is the only one whom Longo will talk to, allowing the writer to undercover the ‘true story’ behind the crimes.
    .
The plot of True Story certainly sounds interesting as well as the casting. Pitting Franco as the serial killer with journalist Hill could be an unexpectedly perfect combination. If done right, True Story could give Pitt his 2015 Oscar nomination, though probably not another statue.
    .
    Selma
    ———-
Pitt’s Plan B are producing this historical drama in conjunction with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. It follows the 1965 ‘Selma to Montgomery’ voting marches led by John Lewis, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Filming has just begun in Atlanta with British actor David Oyelowo cast as King and Michael Clayton actor Tom Wilkinson, rapper Common and Cuba Gooding Jnr also starring.
    .
This one has Oscar written all over it and will most likely be released at the end of next year in time for the 2016 awards. The Pitt and Winfrey behind the scenes teaming means that the movie will have all the backing necessary to make it a firm awards contender.
    .
    Blonde
    ————–
Based on Joyce Carol Oates fictional biography of Marilyn Monroe, Blonde is set to star Zero Dark Thirty actress Jessica Chastain as the famous starlet. Andrew Dominik, who directed Pitt films The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and Killing Them Softly will be behind the camera and will be working off his own script. The Wrap reported last month that hat Chastain’s portrayal is expected to be ‘much different’ with Blonde taking ‘an unconventional approach to examining the Hollywood starlet’s life and career.’ Filming is set to begin in August this year, with a 2015 release date being looked at.
    .
We probably don’t need another Monroe biopic, but at least this one promises a new take on the actress and will undoubtedly benefit from Oates’ original material. Still, somehow we don’t see this one being Pitt’s next big critical success.
    .
    World War Z-II
    ———————-
The follow up to last year’s apocalyptic horror, which grossed over an amazing $540million at the box office. The sequel will be directed by The Impossible’s Juan Antonio Bayona with British writer Steven Knight penning the script. Plot details for the next World War Z are scarce at the moment but the storyline is expected to continue from where Marc Forster’s movie left off. Right now a 2016 release is expected.
    .
No there’s definitely no Oscar expected for this one, but it is certain to make big money at the box office. But with Knight writing and Bayona directing, it could end up getting a better critical reception that its predecessor, but either way, we expect audiences will flock back for the second World War Z instalment.

Vatican Radio to live stream panel discussion on ending rape as a tool of war
    ====================================================================================
by Thaddeus Baklinski Fri May 30, 2014 16:14 EST
    .
ROME, May 30, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – What can the world do to end the use of rape and sexual violence in war-torn countries? That’s the question the Vatican Radio’s English Program and the British Embassy to the Holy See will discuss in a lead-up to the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, which will be taking place in London on June 10-13 .
    .
This Tuesday, June 3, at 12 noon Rome time their panel discussion will be live streamed on Vatican Radio’s You Tube channel. The talk will focus on three main aspects of the global theme of ending sexual violence in conflict: the problem, progress in providing assistance to survivors, and prevention.
    .
The panel discussion will explore the role of the Catholic networks, their knowledge and expertise in conflict zones, as well as hear the voices of religious women who are witnesses and who assist victims of violence, and will examine root causes as well as promote practical actions that impact those on the ground.Vatican Radio’s Philippa Hitchen will moderate the discussion, with Seàn-Patrick Lovett producing the webcast.
The participants in the studio will be:
    • Nigel Baker, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Holy See;
    • Michel Roy, Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis;
    • Sr. Elena Balani, Comboni Missionary Sister working in Makala, South Sudan; and
    • Sr. Victoria Chiharhula, MSOLA working in Congo.
The panel will be joined by Pádraic MacOireachtaigh, regional advocacy officer for Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), who will be web-connected from Burundi.
    .
Ambassador Baker said, “We are steadily building the global momentum needed to end the use of rape and sexual violence in conflict once and for all. These crimes have ruined the lives of millions of women, men and children in our lifetimes. As witnesses on the ground, supporting and assisting victims, the Catholic networks have a big role to play in this international effort.”
    .
Michel Roy, Secretary General Caritas Internationalis, stated that the Catholic Church “provides medical assistance to the survivors of sexual violence in conflict, gives them shelter and counseling and confronts stigma. To the perpetrators, we must tell them to change their lives and to stop carrying out these heinous acts.”
    .
“JRS community-based activities offer survivors of sexual violence space to rebuild their lives. Across the globe – from the remote hills of eastern Congo to urban areas of Colombia – we strive to build communities of hope. However, a more just future depends on the actions of governments needed to fund the provision of lifesaving medical and psychosocial services and enforce laws ensuring the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes,” said Jesuit Refugee Service International Director, Peter Balleis, S.J.
    .
Vatican Radio Director General Fr. Federico Lombardi, S.J., stated that, “We have to use every means of communication at our disposal in order to defend the most vulnerable, to give voice to those with no voice, and to increase awareness of our own responsibility in the face of suffering and violence.”
    .
The London Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict will be co-chaired by the British Foreign Secretary William Hague and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Special Envoy Angelina Jolie.
    .
Organizers say it will be the largest international gathering ever held on this issue. Over 1,200 delegates, including government officials, international organization representatives, civil society organizations and a broad range of domestic and international experts, are expected to attend the event in London.
    .
The “End Sexual Violence in Conflict: #TimeToAct” webcast will be streamed live on Tuesday, June 3, at 12 noon Rome time, on Vatican Radio’s Youtube & Facebook page.
