Jonah Hill Apologizes For Using Homophobic Slur: 'This Is a Heartbreaking Situation For Me'

Jonah Hill has offered an apology after being caught on camera hurling a homophobic slur at a photographer this past weekend.

“Suck my d–k, you f—-t,” the 30-year-old 22 Jump Street actor said to the photog.

On Tuesday (June 3), Jonah went on The Howard Stern Show to offer an apology (via TMZ).

“This is a heartbreaking situation for me,” Jonah said. “I’m upset because from the day I was born, and publicly, I’ve been a gay rights activist. Now, this person, you saw a 40-second video. This person had been following me around—just to give it some context, not excusing what I said in any way—this person had been following me around all day, had been saying hurtful things about my family, really hurtful things about me personally, and I played into exactly what he wanted and lost my cool.”

“In that moment I said a disgusting word that does not at all reflect how I feel about any group of people. I grew up with gay family members. I’m leaving here to go spend the day with one of my closest co-workers and best friend who is gay, who’s getting married, who I’m going to stand at his wedding. You know? I’m not at all defending my choice of words but I am happy to be the poster boy for thinking about what you say and how those words, even if you don’t intend them and how they mean, they are rooted in hate, and that’s bulls–t,” Jonah added.

“I shouldn’t have said that. Look, I think I’m pretty good at being in movies. I am not good at being a famous person. I’m just not! I think there are some people who are meant for it. If you call me ugly, if you call family members of mine drug addicts and maniacs, I am eventually going to lose my cool.”

“Now what I said in that moment was disgusting and a hurtful term. I should have either said nothing or just ‘f–k you.’ instead I used a word that I don’t use in my personal life,” Jonah added. “It’s not part of my vernacular. I’m happy to take the heat for using this disgusting word. What I won’t allow is for anyone—it would break my heart for anyone to think, especially with all the work that I’ve done and all the loved ones that I have—that I would be against anyone for their sexuality.”

lmfao at all these homophobic celebrities claims to be “gay activist” as soon as they are caught using gay slur.

He’s full of excuses. To blame the photographer and making up lies that he attacked his family and calling him names in 40 seconds, yeah nice try.

and lmfao at him starting to talk about how great of an actor he is. Jonah, just up and go back to eating your feelings.

    sorella Says:

Ok, so he apologizes. But it still strange to use “suck my d— you f—t” as retort unless you use that ALOT, I can’t imagine ever saying that, a simple F-Off maybe or go to hell, but the sucking part seems like something he likely does say quite often and i have a hard to believe that is a one-off, it’s so specfic.

    Heartbreaking? I doubt it.

    Tiana Says:

I’m literally laughing my butt off right now, just keep it real Jonah you said homophobic things and you probably say it behind close doors all the time. Not trying to go there but I’m going to, it’s basically like saying I don’t say the N word type of thing bull crap people say stuff that they wouldn’t say in the public eye all the time, but when they get caught all this BS apologies start to come out I don’t want to hear just admit it for Christ sake, I would respect you so much more.

    Teeter Says:

    @sorella:
Exactly! These words just don’t come out unless they are a part of your vernacular.

    dale Says:

Nah, no pass! You actually combined a sexual action along with the worst word to use against gays – clearly something you’ve used before in public as you did here. I always thought the fame went to your head, and you think you’re all that, and your unbelievable sentence proves it.

    FemEagle Says:

Hill had no need to apologize. The guy was baiting him with ****** language, so Hill gave him the appropriate reply.

You gay folk need to understand that MOST people are repulsed by your “lifestyle”, even the ones who pay lip service to “same luv” and “marriage equality”. That’s your painful little “inconvenient truth”. Nature has built into normal folk a natural revulsion to same-sex relations, because – oops, duck, here comes more truth! – nature doesn’t want people of the same gender to mate with each other. What you need to do is learn to suck it up, because that will never change, despite all of your attempts at brainwashing and intimidation.

“We don’t need no education. We don’t need no thought control”.

    @Court:

How very condescending of you. :P

    who cares Says:

He clearly wasn’t saying it in a way to offend gay people. Everyone knows using randoms words like that are meant as a way of angry name calling that EVERYONE is guilty of. Quit acting like your **** doesn’t stink. Black people can call each other niggers, gays can call each other faggots….but when its done by a white or straight person all hell breaks loose. Seriously. WHO CARES?

  12. 12
    Lisa Says:

Now that’s how you apologize. Accepted. Everyone is human and says things in the heat of the moment. Good on him.

  13. 13
    who cares Says:

    I agree femeagle!

gays make it such a big deal for equality but they are some of the close minded ******** I have ever met. I don’t care what people do in their own homes, but I’m tired of it being shoved down my throat.

    Fasci nating Says:

here is where they condition people to control language
down the road you will not be allowed to criticize government

    Bad Man Says:

He needs to sell whatever he owns to Oprah, or maybe Ellen.

  16. 16
    Teeter Says:

    @who cares:
Nothing is being shoved down your throat. I don’t understand why people like you relish in using homophobic and/ or racial slurs, then use the excuse “well THEY can say it.” How about not saying it at all, why is that so painful for you?

  17. 17
    NO BRITSHIT Says:

KILL THE FAGGOES AND SEND THEM BACK TO CHINA!!!!

  18. 18
    Vendetta Chronicles Says:

His apology isn’t sincere at all. Besides, he was always a mediocre actor at best doing mediocre films.

  19. 19
    Jason Says:

Ah yes. The go to insult.

  20. 20
    Leslie Says:

He gave zero pass to Macklemore. Now he’s caught in the same **** and wants everybody to forgive him? Flipping hypocrite.

  21. 21
    Leslie Says:

Btw, he does realize there are gay jews right? He’s all about calling out antisemitism but not in keeping homophobic language out of his vernacular even though there are gay jews. What’s the difference Jonah? They can be one and the same. And if you won’t stand for people using jewish slurs or mocking jewish people why make your go to insult against gays? Who can be jewish as well? Ignorant as hell man. Nobody has any love for the paps. I think 99% of people think they’re scum but why does it seem whenever a celebrity get tired of the paps their go to insults are either racial or homophobic, or both? Hollywood tries to keep this liberal face on. Even now Jonah is claiming to be an ally. BS. As a person of mixed race who is ***** and whose best friend is jewish and *****, we don’t need people like you Jonah. To defend antisemitism or queerness. Don’t be our ally. Don’t go away mad. Just go away.

  22. 22
    Oneday Says:

So the guy on Duck Dynasty honestly tells the interviewer his Christian beliefs when asked about gays and people try and ban him from tv, and here the words are said as an obvious angry slur against gays (whether he meant it in that context or not) and he gets a pass? Why? Because he doesn’t fit the same mold as the other guy? Because he’s part of “hip Hollywood” so it’s ok? And I’m sure everyone will still flock to see his new movie. Hypocrisy at its best.

  23. 23
    BubbleBath Says:

I don’t think these words mean what they mean when you use them as an insult.

When you call someone what Hill called the guy, it doesn’t mean that “you are sexually attracted to your own sex and that’s bad”. Since he doesn’t know the guy. If he said that to someone who he knows is gay, that’s an insult.

When you call a girl a w.h.o.r.e, does that mean she has sex for money?

And ******, I wouldn’t even think about using it to a mentally disabled person.

I’m not an American. I am liberal. Every time someone farts they have to give a freaking apology like it’s the end of the world. Americans are so sensitive.

  24. 24
    BubbleBath Says:

Proving my point. The censored word was r.e.t.a.r.d.
