Former Model B. Smith Diagnozed with Alzheimer's Disease

Former model and current entrepreneur B. Smith has revealed that she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

The 64-year-old restaurant owner and decorator opened up to CBS News as she wants to erase the stigma and shame that comes with the incurable disease.

“I think the future’s going to be fine,” B. said. “I’m going to do my best to make it work out for me and for as many people that I can possibly help, too.”

B., whose first name is Barbara, was one of the first African-American models on the cover of Mademoiselle magazine and she opened up her first restaurant in New York City in 1986. She has hosted a television program and frequently been featured as a guest on talk shows to discuss food and style.

Ahh wish her the best. Unfortunately with Alzheimers each month and year get worse. She sounds to be at very early stages, but this unfortunate disease eventually and very quickly turns you housebound and you’ll need a caretaker once you forget basic skills such as why you need to shower. God speed!

  • Whatever!!!

Very sad. She’s brave to come forward to try and help others. Best wishes to her.

Anyone with Alzheimer’s should be able to choose if they want to live as long as possible, or end their life when they want to. There is no cure, you’re only going to get more and more infirm. I will purchase a gun before I would let that happen to me.

My Mother is 62 and has early onset Alzheimer’s. She may not be a super model or a celebrity but she is someone to me. And Just in the past 8 months her life has taken a turn that I never knew could at 62.
It is very sad to see her go through this stage in her life. I wish anyone dealing with the same many prayers.

A lot of African-Americans seem to come into early life altering situations when they stop being entertainers to business owners… so suspicious!
