Joe Manganiello: There's No Such Thing as Male Objectification

Joe Manganiello shows off his buff arms while shopping at the John Varvatos store on Thursday afternoon (June 12) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 37-year-old True Blood actor was joined by his co-star Kristin Bauer the day before while taping an appearance on Extra.

Joe recently chatted with Buzzfeed about how male stripping is a product of feminism.

“I don’t think there’s any such thing as male objectification,” Joe said when asked about his own voyeur-inviting nudity. “I think that word exists only with women because there are societal pressures for them to behave a certain way and to look a certain way. Someone put it to me once: Women are sex objects and men are success objects. That was really interesting to me.”

Later that day, Joe hit up the Nintendo booth to play Hyrule Warriors on Wii U at E3.

Very true as the double standard is alive and kicking. That said, men wish to be desired too. They want to be desired for their bodies. And if you ask me their isn’t a man out there, in shape or out, that doesn’t think all women want him. It’s mostly how they’re programmed to think since kids.

But your education, and soul, come through when you address such issues, not that you’re reading this of course, but just know all that shows. Best of luck to you. I think you’ve broken past. And by that I think you know what I mean too.

Profound thinker, shattering stereotypes. Thanks.

what an idiot this guy is. men objectify women and women objectify men. he’s just trying to make himself more likeable.

Women need to stop thinking that they are the only ones that face sexism

@GFW:

If you honestly believe there isn’t a man out there who doesn’t think that every woman wants him, you don’t get out much and clearly don’t know many men outside of television.

This guy is so dumb!He is in the world of male sexploitation and he doesn’t even realize it!He really thinks men are so superior and above all that!Listen meathead,if there’s no such thing as male objectification, then why you and your male co-stars on True Blood are always half naked most of the time on that show?Joe,don’t be a manwh*re and stupid at the same time but based on your statement, clearly you don’t have a choice.

men here are so lame. @ 06/13/2014 at 4:46 pm

Funny how all this men here are mad at joe manganiello because he gave men one reason less to self-pity themselves. Men calm down, you will still find a lot of things to pitty yourselves, like you always do and always did. Booohooo the world is so cruel to men, but women live in this men world like in paradise LOL.

Aww…I like him even more now!

I think overall what Joe says is true but I think it’s slowly changing. The more money position and power women get it seems the more men are concerned about their appearance and attractiveness to women. Women for the most part don’t have to get married to the guy who has a ton of money whether they are attracted to them or not and no matter what age they are– since women are earning money for themselves. Women are getting the opportunity to be picky and choose who they want to be with and can freely admit that YES-sexual attraction DOES matter to them also. AND DON’T MASH MARK’S COMMENT. In spite of Joe’s Carnegie Mellon training even HE SAYS it was he’s looks that has that has gotten him parts so far. Hopefully that will change and people will see the range of his talents.

The women go wild. And why not?

Looking forward to True Bloods’ last season. And Joe.
