'22 Jump Street' Opens No.1 at Father's Day Weekend Box Office!

22 Jump Street has topped this weekend’s box office with a whopping $60 million opening!

According to THR, the sequel, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, now holds the record for the second-best opening of all time for an R-rated comedy after The Hangover: Part II.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 took the second spot with $50 million, which surpasses the original film’s $36 million in March 2010.

Coming in at No. 3 was Angelina Jolie‘s film Maleficent, which grossed $19 million for a domestic total of $163.5 million.

Rounding out the top five were Tom Cruise‘s sc-fi epic Edge of Tomorrow and The Fault in Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, which took in $16.2 million and $15.7 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson‘s indie drama The Rover, opened at the specialty box office, grossing $70,000 from five locations for a location average of $14,000.

Edge did about 250Million (updates for some countries not on stats as of right now) worldwide so far in less then 2 weeks and will probably do or close to 100Million domestic when it’s all said and done.
Very much like Pacific Rim. Started weak but went on to gross ok.

That is only a flop in the mind of a few haters.
Tom isn’t dead. He is doing very well for a 51 year old actor that was on top for over 30 years.
Of course not all his movies will be knock outs but with this one well on the way to doing 350plus* worldwide no one is going to stop making Tom Cruise movies.
    Have fun haters.
    Off to enjoy Argentina game.

*Probably closer to 400m but who knows for sure yet.

EoT is a really good sci-fi film with terrible release date. I esti $80 – 90 million domestically like Oblivion and Reacher, but open to it could being the first Tom Cruise film to break $100 million domestically since Ghost Protocol. We’ll see, Transformers weekend. The international box office numbers will most likely end around $350-$400.
    All-in-all, EoT estimate world-wide gross – $430.
Not bad for a Tom Cruise non-MI film and a unfortunate release date.

People must think one movie under 100million means everything.
I know some like to talk about overseas but forget about that for a minute and look at just domestic.
He is still in there with Brad Pitt about the same. Look at how many of Brad’s didn’t appear to do so well domestic.

@AMELIA — Why on earth would you ONLY look at domestic box office. The studios certainly don’t. Money is money, no matter what county it’s coming from. Movie aren’t just made for U.S. audiences. In fact, international box office counts MORE than the domestic box office because the world is much bigger than America meaning there is more money to be made outside of the U.S. Why do you think studios are flying celebrities all around the world for movie premieres in China, Japan, the UK and Australia just to name a few countries? When a movie opens, you can best believe that studios are factoring in the international box office — not just domestic, because when celebrities have international appeal like a Angelina Jolie or a Brad Pitt, that sweetens the pot and guarantees much higher grosses.

I think you missed my point. I agree with you. My point however was to show those that say “well he failed domestically on this one it must mean something horrible” that isn’t the case either if you compare to the peers.

Nice to see the uneducated supporting the racist filth that is Jonah Hill.
