'22 Jump Street' Opens No.1 at Father's Day Weekend Box Office!
22 Jump Street has topped this weekend’s box office with a whopping $60 million opening!
According to THR, the sequel, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, now holds the record for the second-best opening of all time for an R-rated comedy after The Hangover: Part II.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 took the second spot with $50 million, which surpasses the original film’s $36 million in March 2010.
Coming in at No. 3 was Angelina Jolie‘s film Maleficent, which grossed $19 million for a domestic total of $163.5 million.
Rounding out the top five were Tom Cruise‘s sc-fi epic Edge of Tomorrow and The Fault in Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, which took in $16.2 million and $15.7 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson‘s indie drama The Rover, opened at the specialty box office, grossing $70,000 from five locations for a location average of $14,000.
