Uruguay's Luis Suarez Banned From Remaining World Cup Games for Biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini

Luis Suarez, Uruguayan 2014 World Cup player, has been officially banned from the sport for four months for biting Italian player Giorgio Chiellini during their game on Monday (June 24).

The 27-year-old player has been banned for “football-related activities” and will rule him out of the World Cup as well as the start of the soccer season. Luis is also being banned from even entering the stadium. He has been fined $111,000 in addition.

Video of the incident shows that it is sort of unclear what actually happened during the game, but, it appears as if Luis charged Giorgio and ducked his head towards his shoulder. You can then see both men grasping their appendages in pain. See a video of the incident here.

That’s why a hate /love the World Cup.. Too many referee are on the take, this Mexican ref gives a unfair red card to the italian player , then let’s this guy in the game even though the player showed the bite marks. Without the extra player & Suarez in the game they wouldn’t have had a goal, besides all the calls the the referee favoured for the South American team…. Shame who wants a game decided by corrupt referees besides FIFA .

exscusme i am from uruguay and luis suarez is the best fottball player in the world here in uryuguay suerez is the best the FIFA are a idiots !! I am with suarez is a shame all the people talking bad about Suarez !!! that is very injusting from suarez !!

  • Yep

    @ Sam
I was thinking exactly the same.
Plus, this fact is something that should be judged by a court, it’s an assault, and not even the first one by this psyco.
    Shame shame shame.

Pele, Maradona were great football players, Suarez is a good one. But he has issues and he is a cheater. Your National Team greatly benefited from his shameful behavior, he made this on purpose, trying to have a reaction from Chiellini and get the second red for Italy.
Shame on you supporting his behavior..

I agree. I just want to ask who wrote the article if the 5-6 bitemarks would still be “UNCLEAR” if it was them who got them on their shoulder.
The match was decided from the beginning: since the first half Uruguay players decided for the tacticque of the physical elimination of the Italians, by keeping on throwing them on the ground. Which led to Italian shooter being kept out in the second half, because the trainer was worried that the guy, who’s also famous for his temperament, whoul have himself kicked out of the game.
Then the referee ridiculously expelled an italian player, then he blatantly ignored Suarez’ bite. Funny, ah?
Then, at 9′ from the end, Italians finally cracked under the stress from what happened and the hot temperatures to which they’re obviously far less used than Uruguayans, and Uruguay scored.

ps: sorry for tipying and grammar mistakes, I wrote that in a rush..

fifa corrupta que se vienen a hacer los moralistas

  • BB

I canti speak Spanish, but are you saying that Fifa is Corrupt and therefore your plyer can go around biting others? Why not shoot them, then?

  • uruguay noma

    Dearest BB,
of course you would bring up guns…
I am saying that if you ban a player for biting you should ban a player for hitting, punching etc which is a bigger offense for football players. I am saying that Uruguay advancing through the championship does not make money, therefore banning uruguays best player is the best option for fifa.

  • pussy

@uruguay noma: The player shouldget a tetnus shot, Suarez teeth looks dangerous, since he likes biting so much maybe he should get check for Rabies.
Suarez cave man act may work in Uruguay, but the rest of the World is civilize, next bite he will be ban for life.
He is close to being a cannibal.

  • pussy

@uruguay noma: The other South American teams are advancing, are they making money for FIFA?
Your arguement is weak, biting is different than hiting, who knows what health problems Suarez has, maybe he played too much football and his brain is damaged.
if he is your Country’s best player, he lacks character, and steps should have been taken by your Country to help him, instead of letting the world see Hannibal Lector.

@MILAGROS CONZONI: You are one seriously delusional person to think Luis Suarez doesn’t deserve to be sanctioned for his action. I don’t care how good of a soccer player he is, he’s an embarrassment to the sport and his country to acting like a crazy person. He should have been banned, he’s a repeated offender with serious mental problems, he needs help. Get off his band wagon and face facts.

  • Aimee

@pussy you couldn’t be more right! Biting other players isn’t soccer, and I think that his punishment is little according the circumstances, it’s not the first time he bites someone and I assure you it won’t be the last one. He shouldn’t be playing soccer, he should get banned for life.

  • Roberta

@Sam: The red card for the italian player was actually fair, I saw what happened, and he deserved it. While I agree with you that this is favoring south american teams, (even though I am from Brazil, I actually think Brazil is going to win because of this), The ref had his back turned the moment Suarez bit Chiledini, so the responsability in this case, would be for the assistent referee (linesman) to say something to the ref and eventually punish Suarez. That didn’t happen and italy left the world cup during groups, again. I think Suarez got a light punishment, giving the fact this was the third time he bit a player in a match, he should get at least a year away from any football related events.

  • He needs to go…..

BTW- look up what he did in FIFA 2010- he’s a cheater as well. He’s a loose cannon who needs to banned for life from soccer, he’s a threat to other players, he’s can’t be trusted. As much as his fans try to argue how good of player he is, he’s mentally unstable, the guy needs straight jacket and a muzzle. Kick him out for good…

  • Roberta

@MILAGROS CONZONI: Shame on Suarez for biting people and acting like an animal. He should be banned forever. I do thing he is a great player, but he acts like a lunitic.

4 months only? Well, at least his leave his mark.

As a Uruguayan I feel like It’s stupid to make excuses or justify what happened, what Suarez did was wrong, ridiculously wrong, I’m not going to stand here and defend him like he is some sort of saint because he is not. He deserves to be punished, he has to. I do, however, think that what the FIFA decided was a bit extreme. He was wrong but it’s not like all of the other teams are the poster children for fair play.

  • Roberta

@Soph: But I think he got this kind of punishment because it’s THIRD time he has done this. The first time, he got 9 games, the second time he got 13 games, I think, but both punishments did not have any effect on him. FIFA had to do something extreme, and, quite frankly, I think they were too light on him. I would give him 1 year, at least.

  • Stfn

You obviously have no idea about geography, get a book and study a little bit about uruguayan weather. You’ll see it s almost exactly the same as the one in italy, and has nothing to do with the one in brasil, you ignorant!

  • Soph

@Roberta: I can’t help but feel bothered because it feels like they are using him as some sort of scapegoat, but I guess if you take into account all the other times he did it then a harsh punishment makes absolute sense. As patriotic and hurt as I am, he clearly has some sort of issue.
