Dakota Fanning to 'Town & Country': I'm Never Going to Parade My Personal Life

Dakota Fanning gets up close and personal for Town & Country magazine’s August 2014 issue, on newsstands July 8.

Here’s what the 20-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On privacy: “I’m just never going to parade my personal life. If you choose to not do it, it’s not hard to not do it… Any part of an artistic business is made better by there being a little mystery. That’s what movies are about.”

On growing up in the public eye: “Because people saw me grow up, there’s this weird sort of ownership that they feel for me and that is…difficult. Because it’s not real; it’s in their minds. People don’t know me as much as they think they do. I’ll be walking down the street and someone will say hello, and I’ll go, ‘Oh, hi!’ I’ll think I must know this person if they said hello, but then you realize, you don’t know them.”

On movies she’d like to direct one day: “It’s very hard to find a movie about a strong woman – one that doesn’t have anything to do with a guy or the love of a guy or the heartbreak of a guy. Is that the only crisis that women deal with: love and loss of love and sadness? There’s more to life than that.”

My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do…

Just because you’re no Britney Young, doesn’t mean you’re not attractive. You look great on the cover. Yet the negativity in the article is palpable. It’s disconcerting. There must be all kinds of powerful women bios out there for you to play that don’t centrally involve men. Surely your higher education includes history and the like. Or there’s fiction. Fiction, moreover, tends to accommodate all manner of stretch — nearly anything becomes possible. Or is that it? The fiction?

Is this sudden melancholy because of some kind of embarrassment or angst over the Milli Vanilli-style approach in “Good Girls” with the CGI? The one that Egotastic! takes you to task for in their screed titled “Dakota Fanning Butt Gate, It Was All Just a Dream”? If so, let it go, get over it — it’s done.

Or did Elle’s and Angelina’s “Maleficent”, help sour you on men?

Wow, Dakota. While certainly nobody “owns” you, all that money you have did come from the people you are looking down upon. So if someone says “Hello” then how about considering they may just be acting like civilized human beings rather than your personal talking ATM’s.
