Diane Kruger Previews a 'Darker' Season for 'The Bridge'

Diane Kruger makes her way to her car after taking part in her Pilates class on Wednesday (July 9) in Los Angeles.

The 37-year-old actress recently gave some hints about the second season of her hit show The Bridge.

With new show runner Elwood Reid taking the reigns, Diane told TV Line “his vision for the show is darker, for sure, but also more complex. There are many different storylines that sort of happen at the same time and seemingly are not connected.”

“Sonya has reason to believe that Marco [played by Demian Bichir] is compromised, and she distrusts him quite a bit,” Diane added. “Theres a big fallout over whether she or not she believes that he’s taken too many steps into the darkness.”

FYI: Diane is wearing Roland Mouret sunglasses and handbag.

The Bridge just began its second season on FX.

The Bridge (10:00) – FX
1.500 million viewers, #13; 0.631 million adults 18-49 (0.50 rating), #10

FX’s “The Bridge” Ratings Way Down from Last Year’s Premiere

Down 44% in adults 18-49 and more than 50% in total viewers from last year’s premiere, “The Bridge” did not open its second season on a high note.

FX’s “The Bridge” did not return to television as a ratings winner.

Wednesday’s second season premiere drew a soft 0.5 adults 18-49 rating with just 1.50 million viewers. Both figures were down significantly from those of the series premiere.

That episode, which kicked off the critically acclaimed show’s run on July 10, 2014, drew a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating with 3.04 million viewers.

Ratings then crashed for the series’ second episode, which drew a 0.5 with 1.74 million. The show largely remained in that territory before closing its inaugural season with a 0.5 rating and 1.43 million viewers on October 2.

While the season two premiere performance is certainly not strong, it is within the rough ballpark of what most season one episodes delivered. If it represents a point at which the show will remain stable for the remainder of the season, it is not tragic.

If, however, the episode was boosted by unsustainable curiosity buzz, things could get troublesome as the season progresses.

The Bridge’s premiere last season was twice as high as the Season 2 premiere. Also, The Bridge only had 3 episodes last season that rated as low or lower than their Season 2 premiere, and those were the last 3 episodes of the season. Imagine how much lower the ratings will be for the following episodes of this season. Prepare for the show’s cancellation after this season.
