Vanessa Hudgens: Girls Should Embrace Their 'True Self'!

Vanessa Hudgens shows off her new hair cut at Aroma Cafe on Saturday afternoon (July 12) in Studio City, Calif.

The 25-year-old actress recently opened up about Bongo‘s decision to not use Photoshop for her ads.

“I absolutely love that Bongo wanted to do something different by not retouching my photos for their campaign,” Vanessa posted to her Tumblr. “I think it is important for girls to be true to who they are, and not compare themselves to girls who have been photoshopped to look ‘perfect.’ God made us all unique for a reason and we should embrace our true self.”

FYI: Vanessa is wearing Sunday Somewhere sunglasses.

”’Vanessa Hudgens: Girls Should Embrace Their ‘True Self’!”’

Then why have you lightened your hair? That is NOT your true self.

  • cali

How is this a haircut? All she did was take her weave out.

  • freya

I think it is important for girls to be true to who they are,
    ———————————–
Sure Vanessa except YOU AND YOUR REAL HAIR COLOR. lol

  • Luna

I don’t get this girl, she believes in God and is a Catholic yet does Yoga which is associated with Nontheistic religions. Make you mind up man.

  • kami

i love love love her hair like that. hope she never puts those ugly extensions in again. now if she’d just get rid of those fake nails. i know they seem to be the in thing these days, but they’re just nasty and destroy your real nails.

  • Amy

    @Luna:

Umm… Yoga is a good form of exercise.

  • IOI

Her hair was fake in the campaign, don’t tell me otherwise and her hair is still fake cause she isn’t a natural blonde. And yes V, you are more than aware that they used TONS of lighting in that bongo campaign, she’s an Instagram girl, of course she knows lighting makes you look better. And I wouldn’t be bragging about being in a bongo campaign when her younger friend and former co-star Ashley benson is in a H&M campaign and Jennifer lawrence who is 2 years younger than Vanessa is in a Dior campaign. Wasn’t the last bongo ambassador D-lister Audrina Patridge as well? LOLOLOL V should know she is in the bottom of the Hollywood food chain and only capitalizes on her looks through pap opportunities. How will anyone respect her through a d-list campaign like bongo is beyond me when she is only doing this for the money and not thinking about being a respected actress. That’s why she’s taking acting classes to be “taken seriously” now, she should’ve taken her acting career seriously once she left disney. Girl has a looooooong way to go.

  • Jr

    @luna
I don’t think God cares if Catholics do yoga. It’s just another exercise routine to keep her healthy.

  • kylie

@IOI: No offense but you sound really jealous.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3by9FoEFB8 Living in a box

True and you also should accept that you don’t have talent.

  • lol

@kylie: who’d be jealous of a d-list attention seeker like hudgens? If I was a serious actress I wouldn’t go near a bongo campaign either lol. IOI doesn’t sound jealous, she’s just saying the truth, I even forgot that audrina used to rep bongo lol. Why would any girl with common sense look up to hudgens at all? Because “she’s pretty” and the key to happiness is “being pretty”, how vapid does that sound. I’d rather look up to Jlaw than hudgens, hudgens is way too aware of her looks, at least Jennifer is gorgeous but doesn’t rely on her looks and consistently works on her craft seriously. Sounds like you need a better role model to look up to lol

  • emma

Thats dumb. I think all girls have gone through that “I dont like myself” phase. It’s part of adolescence and life. She cant change anything about puberty.

  • Luna

@Jr That’s not the point, Yoga is about being healthy in a spiritual sense not just a physical sense. Too many people use things from religions for their own benefits.

  • Rachel

She’s beautiful no matter what but I do miss her long, brunette hair. Boo.

  • Sara

I get what she’s saying but imagine if you had Candice Swanepoel or whoever in an ad campaign covered in blemishes or what have you. That’s not visually appealing, in real life that stuff doesn’t matter but in fashion photography it’s important. We need to teach young girls the difference between fashion models in print and people in real life because there is a huge difference, rather than saying it’s different and unique because bongo don’t retouch their photographs.

  • Jr

    Luna
So what? You believe Gods going to send every catholic who does yoga to hell?

  • Tiff

I like Vanessa, but why in the world does she think this look works for her? Terrible hair, horrific outfit. Looks trashy.

  • xyzc

Why and to whom is she relevant?

  • Rachel

@xyzc: Obvious you because if she wasn’t relevant to you, would you really post something on her?

  • Luna

@Jr: hold up that’s not what I said, it just doesn’t make sense.

  • maria

@IOI: You are certainly miserable, huh? Vanessa has a younger look than those girls, and I say she should capitalize on that with younger brands while she can. I think it’s tacky for very big fashion houses and designers, to use young 20 somethings as their spokeswomen. I just think those aren’t the women who buy Dior, etc., so why feature someone who will annoy the clientele of Dior? As far as acting, Vanessa has done quite a bit since HSM. Have you had your head in the sand? She had nice reviews for her last 3 films. SB, FG, and GS. She is working on her “craft” just as much as JLaw, who has roles handed to her. Overexposed in my book, and had the luck to get a few well written roles in good movies.

Vanessa is a natural beauty, with or without blonde hair. Most women color their hair, so it’s not about that. It’s about her natural features, her lack of plastic surgery, her own body. THAT is natural. Hair is just hair.

  • Jr

    Luna
You can do yoga and believe in God. It’s ok

  • Amy

    @Luna:

You sound like you’re coco for cocoa puffs.

  • http://Justjared.com BOHJI

IOI and lol distinctly sound like Nightwish, mr. Fashion cum film cum celebrity expert himself.

  • emma

@maria: how do you know Jlaw has roles handed over to her ? Are you her manager? publicist? relative? Stop living in lala land for once. Even IF she does get roles handed over, she deserves it. She’s an oscar winner and has done justice to all the roles – which are by far more difficult ones than V does – she has got so far. Vanessa is doing nothing. GS, SB, FG came out a long time ago.

  • maria

@emma: Yes, she does. She is a Harvey Weinstein darling, and therefore will continue to have roles handed to her. She was FAR too young for that role in American Hustle, and sorry, anyone could have done well with a well written role. I like her, but tired of seeing her in everything. The same white actresses are cast in most roles in Holywood. I highly doubt it’s because they are the most suited for each role. It’s because of name and money. I am sure there are many more talented actresses waiting to get a chance while these same women are handed all their roles. It’s pretty pathetic.

  • JustMe

@maria: Well established actors/actresses are the first to be considered for roles because they’re already well known by the public and are bigger box office draws than unknowns. I disagree with you on your claim that anyone can do well with a well written role. Do you think American Hustle would’ve benefited from JLaw’s role being given to Vanessa Hudgens instead? If so, I strongly dsagree. JLaw was well suited to that part.

  • http://justjared Charlie

This is a great initiative for Bongo and Vanessa. She is a good role model. Nessa is far from excessive use of drugs and alcol, does a lot of charity and through hers photographic services sends positive messages to girls like this

  • Nightwish

The reason why these hudgens posts are such a riot is because you have people around here like maria, who constantly drags down every other actor/actress in her sorry attempt to prop up her overrated, unemployed idol. Misery loves company, no? Then we have newcomer ‘charlie’ who comes to the brilliant, hudgens-biased conclusion that an unemployed, duckface selfie taking loser who devotes all of her time to self-serving pursuits is a fantastic role model for ‘girls’ when she’s already a woman in her mid 20′s. Then theres boji, who is under the impression that theres only one single solitary person on the planet who finds hudgens unbearably irking (me), and thus, anyone making a negative comment about hudgens on jj has to be me. What a pack of friggin loosiers i tell you. Lmao

  • Nightwish

Oh, did i mention lying ass tina and her ignoramic doofus sidekick hatersuck, both basket cases in their own right? lol

  • hey gurlz

Vanessa is telling us that God made us unique so we should embrace our true selves…like, love ur real nails, love ur real hair, and be like true to urself and all that stuff. But, hey, wait, she constantly changes everything about her natural looks so I guess we should too? Well at least she’s not telling us to be good at spelling or grammar or work hard (ugghh, God no!), just find our best selfie angle. **Mwwwahhh kissy kiss pose**

  • maria

@hey gurlz: Hey, gurl. Welcome to your generation. Playing with her looks does not make her unnatural. The fact that her face and body are natural is the point. That is what girls need to see in ads; not photoshopped bodies, noses, lips, breasts, legs, etc. it’s not about hair and nails; those are our accessories, so to speak. We change those all the time.

  • maria

@JustMe: i think Vanessa would also have been too young. I didn’t think JLaw was age appropriate at all. But that was a Harvey film, so no one else was going to get that role. Saying she was not suited does not indicate hate either. I already said I like her, but tired of seeing her in every film. And contrary to the idiot here, i don’t dislike every actress other than Vanessa. I just don’t think she does anything to deserve the crap some of you fling at her.

  • kylie

As usual, @maria: is spot on.

  • http://Justjared.com BOHJI

@maria: I couldn’t agree more on both arguments. Missed ya!

  • Mean

Surprise she’s not hiding her face with something. Looks like she got her clothes out of a trash can. And her other clothes she wears are augly.she needs to cut those nails.

  • maria

@Mean: oh, Kelly/Welly…..at least you picked an appropriate name this time.

  • Nightwish

@maria: Dumb ass, how many films has weinstein distributed with actresses other than jen lawrence? How about all the other non harvey films being produced that also have no interest in casting hudgens whatsoever? Some people are so ignorant. Hudgens is not marketable because she’s irking and has no identity. Nobody knows who the hel she is or what she represents. Shes 25 and acts like a kid. Why would a producer bet big money on someone like that?

  • maria

@Nightwish: Ahh, and here we go with the name calling. Having an opinion other than yours does not make me a dumba$$. And if you think she acts like a child, then she’s a pretty mature one. She has a stable life, stable relationship, has a great work ethic according to her directors, is loyal to her friends, and I could go on. Liking music, going to the gym, and being a free spirit does not make her childish. And I NEVER said Weinstein will only cast JLaw. But she is a favorite. No doubt there.

  • lol

    @JustMe: &
@Nightwish: maria is convinced that hollywood only casts white girls cuz they have some kind of racist jewish agenda. so according to her argument, ashley tisdale, hillary duff, and tara reid should have roles handed to them left & right. and since maria says “anyone can do well with a well written role”, that means all 3 of those nitwits should have won oscars by now, right maria? wrong! the reason why those 3 white girls don’t get offered well written roles is cuz they suck, they’re stupid idiots, and no one takes them seriously (for good reason) same as vanessa.
hollywood’s #1 agenda is money making, of course producers don’t wanna lose $$ so they’re naturally gonna give well written roles to actresses who are taken seriously…vanessa will never be taken seriously but it’s not cuz she’s part filipino, it’s cuz she acts like a 14 year old with an IQ below 65.

  • maria

@lol: Hollywood IS for the white, run by the rich Jewish, and that is just how it is. And I do believe any decent actress can do well with a good role, and stink it up with a lousy one. That explains why Natalie Portman can get an oscar for scratching and looking terrorized, but stink in Star Wars. It’s all about the role. And sorry, Vanessa is a better actress than any you mentioned, but they all have the Disney stigma as well. JLaw did not have that to deal with, and lucked out with an excellent first role. Disney girls aren’t that lucky.

  • emma

@maria Everything is about money. What makes you think HW is different? JLaw ‘s films make money. Vanessa has starred in much more films than Jlaw but how many has made profit? only SB. She has a long career & considerable following on social sites but when her films come out none of them watches. You simply need to get over your prejudice for other actresses. They deserve what they get and Vanessa deserves what she gets too.

  • maria

@emma: I am not “prejudiced” in any way toward other actresses. I just happen to see the obvious fact that Disney and multiracial are tough stigmas to leave behind. Has JLaw been in Disney? Nope. Is she multi racial? Nope. Vanessa has to fight for her roles, which recently were a homeless teen, a stripper, and trashy college girl. Do you see anything in common there? Yes, and I will be kind and not elaborate. She is trying, and it won’t happen if no one gives her the chance. She did GREAT in those roles, and she does deserve a chance in a mainstream movie. She is working on a read for Gigi on Broadway, and has been seen at the Alvin Ailey Dance Company multiple times in NYC. She is a hard worker when she starts a project and any director she’s worked with, will tell you so. And one last thought: there is plenty of room for JLaw And Vanessa. I just do NOT think JLaw should have every good role.

  • emma

She should prove that she can make money. otherwise she can’t really blame directors for not giving her roles. Her films suck at box office.

  • maria

@emma: Well, then, she would have to be given a chance at a good role in a good mainstream movie, right? Her last movies were all indies, to be fair. Journey 2 did well, as did Sucker Punch, as it still made almost 100mill. Very few actors can carry a movie entirely alone, especially if they are not well known. I doubt JLaw would have done any better in Gimme Shelter either. I just think there are other talented actresses in HW and I would like to see them as well. Including Vanessa.

  • emma

@maria Sucker Punch was a HUGE flop. It barely made is it’s huge budget back without any profit.J2 was a hit, i give her credit for that though it was a sequel and had Josh & Rock in it. You’re talking as if you’re confident she ISN’T GETTING ANY ROLES? A month ago you were so confident “she’s getting roles but she’s just taking a break / she’s not doing everything in her way like her ex does”. What happened for you to change your mind this way?

  • maria

@emma: Well, I NEVER said any if those things, so no mind has been changed. Yes, she is taking a break this year. I never said she’s getting roles. I also NEVER said “she’s not doing everything in her way like her ex does.” What does that even mean? I do think it’s good to take a break, for mental and physical health, and to avoid overexposure. I never said I know she has anything lined up. As far as Sucker Punch, it made $89million, more than her indies. I never said it was a box office success. Honestly, she strikes me as a girl who does what her heart tells her, and won’t just sign on to something she doesn’t like for money. Every project she has done shows a lot of growth, and she is balancing her career with time with her guy and family. Now she is working on Gigi on Broadway, a dream for her. I think the way she approaches life shows maturity and a need to challenge herself. All good.

  • maria

    http://tmblr.co/Zc4wxm1MXab_b

    Livin’ her dream!

  • emma

@maria forgive me for not using the exact wording but you were ‘pretty confident’ she was getting ‘many offers’ and just because she isn’t doing everything that’s thrown at her like her ex does, doesn’t mean she isn’t getting offers .NOW you are practically begging someone to give her a role. She is NOT taking a break. She ended her break when she said she’s “very open” for a project.

  • maria

@emma: Emma, I am not trying to be argumentative, but I never said she was getting so many offers thrown at her, nor insinuated that. If you can recall correctly, I have even lamented that her multi racial looks and Disney stigma have been a problem for her being considered for roles. I may have said we don’t really know what she is considering, but I am certain she is also being choosy, and will not take just anything. She said she is open for projects, but that doesn’t mean she took whatever. She openly stated she was taking some time off this year. I would say she officially ended that with her starting work on Gigi.
