Robin Williams Preliminary Cause of Death: Asphyxia Due to Hanging

A press conference is currently being held to answer questions about Robin Williams‘ sudden death, which was believed to be suspected suicide by asphyxia after preliminary reports.

The 63-year-old beloved actor, comedian, and multi-award winning actor had an examination performed today, which revealed his cause of death to be asphyxia due to hanging by a belt in the preliminary autopsy. Details are still being worked out.

Toxicology will be run to see if chemicals were in the body at the time of death.

Robin was found by his assistant with a belt around his neck in a seated position with cut marks around his wrists. Police have not commented if a note was found at the scene.

The time of death is not known. Robin‘s wife Susan Schneider last saw her husband at 10:30 pm on Sunday evening, and left the house before seeing him in the morning.

The final cause and manner of death will be revealed in several weeks. This is just an initial cause of death based on preliminary observations. All of this information came from the press conference held today.

Robin was found dead in his home mid-day yesterday. After news broke, the outpouring of love and memorials on social media over took the web.

Our continued thoughts go out to Robin‘s family and friends during this time.

He was bullied in his childhood, people don’t realize the amount of neurological damage and pain that causes which he simultaneously suppressed and relived through alcohol and drugs. His parents probably did nothing to help their sensitive son as a child. Hopefully bullies out there will address their own shite before taking it out on an innocent kid. This place sucks and people suck.

    Nothing is private anymore :(

    RIP Mr Williams

I know that sensations sell but is it really neccessary to share all those details about a death of such a great person?! please be more respectful …

  • Ms. Sad

Also his current b!tch wife was putting pressure on him to make more money, and was jealous about his relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar. How is it possible for her not to check on her husband often after he had gone through surgery?…they slept in separate bedrooms. Also, she knew he was suicidal, why didn’t she do anything about it?

  • Carrie.

There’s something fishy with that story, I think his wife couldn’t care less about him, and since she wanted money it was better for her that he died so that she could claim his life insurance.

  • Jamie

I used to be their neighbor and met him and his wife while I took my dog for walks. He was as enchanting as a cherub, always greeted me and chatted with me now and then until his wife saw us talking and yelled at him that she was waiting for him. She was a nasty female dog.

I hate people calling robin a coward or weak. He is none of those things. He fought the good fight for God knows how long. People who say those things don’t know what depression can do to a person. Depression doesn’t care if you have money or not. It doesn’t care if you’re famous or not. If you have it, it will haunt you no matter who you are. It’s a battle against you’re own mind. I myself have gone through battles with this disease. I’ve gone through therapy and been on medication to help me manage but depression is like a shadow i know it still follows me. It’s time we started looking a depression a different way. Stop treating people with depression like outcasts and start realizing they have a problem that maybe u can help them with.

@olivia: huh ? Even non celebrities’ cause of death are released. It’s public record. Get a life.

  • Drats

@Ms. Sad: Yes why were they sleeping in separate bedrooms? Seems like Williams was living an isolated existence.

  • Drats

@Len: But commoners’ cause of death is reported. Why aren’t you defending them? You need to educate yourself on what is public record, pal. And please spare us the lecture. This is a GOSSIP site. If you don’t want to hear about this, then stop reading this site. But please spare us the sanctimonious lecture.

Horrifically painful way to die, it just means it botched and he struggled… why was he all on his own?! What kind of a wife was his wife?! For the past moth he’d been depressed more so than normal AND SHE LEAVES HIM ALONE?! You don’t EVER leave someone with his level of depression on their own!!! You dont stick to their face but you certainly don’t leave the entire premises!!!

Even his REP of all people knew he was depressed and knew for how long!

  • dharius

She left him alone, where was she that night? Did she leave him?!

Robin Williams was truly unique; his spontaneity and intelligence were always out there. I loved watching him in his more serious roles, where he played against type, which is very challenging.

I’m sad that he wasn’t able to rid himself of some of his demons and that his most recent time in rehab didn’t help. Depression is horrendous. Think about trying to live with a black cloud always hovering above you, that you see no hope for the future. It’s impossible to try to function in a “normal” world. If you know of anyone in that situation, please reach out to them. People need to know that others care about them.

Sounds like he had an argument with his wife if she left so late at night… must have been a bad one if it made him feel like he had to take his life. Maybe she made him like he was worthless. Strangers saying rude things about me don’t mean a thing, but if it’s family, it’s more hurtful.

  • No one blames SSRI’s

But they are always the root cause of suicides and murders. When will people stop taking these death drugs so that pharmas and doctors can make moneeeeeeeyyyyyy and let people die?

  • pinkydoo

I’m not absolutely sure about this but if you commit suicide, I don’t think the spouse or anyone gets any life insurance.

  • guest

His 3rd wife is so after his money. He was a great guy but had terrible taste in women. First wife accused him of giving her herpes, second one was his children’s nanny, third he married in a rush after his heart surgery. I wished he reached out to someone else.

  • Blame Game

None of you know anything about his marriage or his wife. How dare you start blaming her? What are you super sleuths who know the inside their marriage and their relationship? NO YOU”RE NOT! CUT IT OUT! He had depression. It is no one else’s fault what he did to himself. It was a good person who bought a lot of love to the world through his work. Blame the illness NOT the people in his life. EDUCATE YOURSELVES!

  • essie

^ woah chill out, this is a gossip site, what do you expect aside gossiping? But it is fishy he wasn’t found till the day after by his assistant and not his wife. If a loved one of mine was experiencing severe depression, don’t think I wouldn’t check up on the person.

  • Carly

Why are these details released? Is it an American thing? Like how 911 calls are released? But seriously, no one needs to read those horrific details of his death.

  • JustChill’n

His death is going to be a hard one to get over. What a loss. : (

  • weird

It seems like his suicide methode was very last minute. Go for the wrists with a pocket knife then chose to hang himself by his belt? Sounds desperate and not planned ahead. I bet he fought with his wife since she was the last one to see him alive and left their house late (where did she sleep?). She must be the only person who knows why he really did it.

  • Hmm

I get black widow vibes from this whole thing. So sudden and not like him. Why would you keep making movies if you’re thinking about offing yourself soon? Why post a picture of your daughter up for her birthday if you’re gonna commit a selfish act later? Why complete his last rehab?
Having recent heart surgery means you don’t want to die either.

  • rose

How dare any of you post things you no nothing about. Yes, his death came as a shock, to Me as well as millions of other fans. None of us know what happened in the last hrs before his untimely demise. There is no reason anyone should go after him now that he’s not here to defend himself. how many of u out there and don’t lie, have ever thought of killing yourself, huh. Wow what liars we have in their own denial. Unless u know what it feels to go thru sadness, hopelessness, shut the help up. I many times have thought of losing my will to live, after what i have been thru in my lifetime. My aunt, momma, daddy, my husband, brother in law, 2 beloved pets 6 days apart, cuzin and uncle. I must add, all these deaths occurre within 3 yr span, except my husband and brother in law. Back in 1996. 12 weeks apart….. .i keep going, so must his family. U people need to keep crude, rude, hurtful remarks to urselves…. Let this man rest in peace, and leave his family in peace to mourn their father and husband’ passing…..
