Natalie Portman Remembers Lauren Bacall After Her Death

Natalie Portman has released a statement honoring the late Lauren Bacall, who passed away suddenly yesterday at the age of 89.

“Lauren Bacall’s strength, wit and talent matched her extreme beauty. I had the great fortune that she so generously allowed me to direct her in my first short film,” the 33-yera-old actress told JustJared.com. “It was a true honor to watch her act up close – her sense of humor, timing and imagination were apparent in every moment. I will never forget the gift of her trust in me and the inimitable and vast talent she had. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.”

Natalie directed Lauren in the short comedy film Eve back in 2008. Our continued thoughts are with Lauren‘s loved ones during this time.

Eve was a beautiful short. The air about it just seemed there was a great time had in it’s making. It must have been a real honor to have the trust of a legend like Lauren. Hope she is remembered as well both in the hearts of those that knew her and those her performances entertained.

Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske on September 16, 1924, in the Bronx, New York,[5][6] the only child of Natalie (née Weinstein-Bacal), a secretary who later legally changed her surname to Bacall, and William Perske, who worked in sales.[7] Both her parents were Jewish. Her mother emigrated from Romania through Ellis Island and her father was born in New Jersey to Polish-born parents.[8][9] Other sources refer to her mother’s family as German-Romanian and her father as originating from Alsace.[10][11] Through her father, she was a relative of Shimon Peres, the ninth President of Israel.
