you do realize that instead of donating to ALS, they decide to dump a bucket of ice water on their head. to raise “awareness” – this is like creating a hashtag to raise awareness for cancer. man, sometimes I marvel at how dumb celebrities are. maybe that’s why Im so fascinated.

  • ok

best one i have seen is someone standing on snow while it is still snowing and pouring ice over themselves might be stupid but if your gonna do it then do it properly im sure there meant to use like 3 buckets of ice not just the 1

  • Liz

@James: You know what, I was thinking about it, and I do agree that it is a stupid thing and not very effective, but at the same time it is sort of effective. Because people will look into it, and they will look up the disease just because of this weird bucket thing. Donating money and fundraising and all that would definitely work better. But I guess this is sort of a fun and costless way to bring some attention to the disease.

  • Arlene

Emmy Rossum has no fan base. Girls despise her.

  • Isabel

@Liz: It’s an incredibly effective campaign. The ALS Association has received 7.6 million in donations compared to the 1.4 million they received last year during the same time frame (July 29 – August 14).

  • Mark

Arlene her Twitter has over 425 000 followers and she’s the star of a hit TV show with millions of viewers, she also has three films coming out this year…I think her fan base is just fine. Thanks for not making any anti-Semitic comments in this post like you usually do, but I guess you’ll just use one of your usual sock puppets for that.

  • Mark

Umm…James do you really think the ALS Society wants celebrities to donate $100 rather than make these videos, which garner massive publicity for the cause of finding a cure for ALS and generate millions of dollars in free publicity and donations…you might want to be a bit more careful in your use of the word “dumb” in the future.
