'Outlander' Renewed for Second Season By Starz!

The brand new Starz series Outlander has been renewed for a second season only one episode into the first season, the network announced today!

The second season will consist of 13 episodes and will be based on the second book in Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series, titled “Dragonfly in Amber.”

“The overwhelming support Outlander has received from the fans, viewers and critics made the decision for us to go ahead with the second book a very easy one. Diana Gabaldon has given us years of great drama. With an incredible artist such as Ronald D. Moore at the helm and a cast as spectacular as this, we look forward to continue this spell-binding journey with Claire, Jamie, Frank, Brianna, Roger and everybody over the centuries,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement (via Variety).

Outlander stars John Heffernan, Nell Hudson, Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan. Check out Sam‘s Just Jared Spotlight feature in case you missed it!

AWESOME! I loved the first episode, I love the actors, the directors, the producers and I’m a life-time fan of Diana Gabaldon’s work. This is fantastic!

Just because the first episode was good doesn’t mean the rest of the season will be. People are trying to get people to watch it saying it’s like Game Of Thrones…it is NOTHING like Game Of Thrones. Outlander is a romance story plan and simple. It is just all about Claire and Jamie. As I hope shows don’t get cancelled I think this might get boring quick for some people.

@Nikki: No offense, but for those of us who have actually read the series, we can tell you, it’s not just about Claire and Jamie. It’s a cross-genre book that has history, some sci-fi, adventure, political intrigue and, yes, romance, in it. Plus the critics, who has seen half the season already, have said it’s a great series. So, I think there is a reason this show got renewed so fast. One thing I’ll agree to though, I don’t think it’s anything like GoT.

@Jenna:

I have read the books up to #5. Yes it has some of the things you said but at the core it is ALL about Claire and Jamie and that is it. I got bored with the books. I don’t like predictability. Romances are predictable.

Yeeeeah! Great show!!!

@Nikki: Well if you read to book 8 as I did, you would bite off your tongue saying that, because there are many things I´d bet everything I have on that she wouldn´t do that to those characters and she did. In last two books of ASOIAF I found some patterns and GRRM didn´t surprise me so often as Diana Gabaldon did. And she by the way won some award given by literature critics, not fans, with GRRM and King behind her, so something must be right with it. And to prevent the question – no, it wasn´t in romance genre, but sci-i/horror/fantasy.

Just watched the 3rd episode of Outlander. Omg where did they find Sam Heughan??? The man is not only gorgeous but a really great actor !! I’m not familiar with the Outlander books .I had seen the previews on Starz and thought hmmm.. This series looks interesting. So glad I started watching. I was really impressed with the stellar acting. But for me the big standout was Sam Heughan. Every time he’s on screen he truly commands the scene. So many actors are good looking but just don’t have that special something.. Starz struck gold when they nabbed this guy..
