Sara Bareilles takes the stage in a black dress to memorialize those who passed this past year during the 2014 Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Monday (August 25) in Los Angeles.

The 34-year-old entertainer performed a version of Nat King Cole‘s classic song “Smile” as images of those who passed flashed across the screen.

Paul Walker, Casey Kasem, Harold Ramis, James Garner, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Robin Williams, among many others, were remembered during the tribute.

It was heartbreaking, to see all those faces. It was such a beautiful tribute. Sara Bareilles has an angel’s voice.

I had goosebumps and was quietly crying the whole time.

But the end came and I just lost it.

she really does have a beautiful voice. she deserves her success unlike the majority of questionable “artists”.

The song, “Smile,” was written by Charlie Chaplin, not Nat King Cole, though he did sing the song. Don’t forget research.

That was a really beautiful performance and a heartbreaking tribute. Sara Bareilles’ voice is amazing.

I found the song completely tasteless. A beloved entertainer commits suicide because of depression, and we are given lyrics that say, “smile, it will make everything better?”

Beautifully done… The song was actually written by Charlie Chaplin and is one of my favorite songs
