Joan Rivers Being Brought Out of Induced Coma (Report)

Joan Rivers is reportedly being brought out of a medically induced coma and her family has “fingers crossed” that she will make it out of this scary situation.

“The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday,” a source close to the family told the New York Daily News. “There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair.”

Joan‘s family is also reportedly considering legal action against Yorkville Endoscopy, where the legendary comedian was having a routine procedure done on Thursday before she stopped breathing and had to be rushed to the hospital.

“The night before, she was performing and now she is on life support,” the source added. “An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient. Very ill advised.”

We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to Joan and her family during this difficult time.

I think Joan is great. I watch fashion police almost every week, and I think she is courageous and funny.
I wish her recovery and good health.

  • sue me

You can tell by the quote from the source they are already deciding who they are going to sue when this is done.

  • Jay

How is Kim’s haircut on the banner and a married couple holding hands but not this!!!!

  • Stanhope

I too thought going from in office procedure to life support was fishy. I don’t think for one minute Melissa wouldn’t have been there if there was any danger. The doctor did something wrong.

  • Okay

Why are they quick to blame the medical facility where she was having her routine procedure??? What if Joan was going to have a heart attack regardless of where she was that day?? That’s right no one knows. Joan is 81 years old and at that age unfortunately anything can happen. However, life happens and unless the medical facility didn’t do something right after giving her this procedure on a routine basis I don’t believe they have a leg to stand on.

Get well Joan my prayers are with you and your family. Hugs to all.

@Okay: i kind of agree. it’s not like she’s 30 and fit. you can plastic surgery the outside all you want but the inside still gives out, and 81 is pretty far along. i hope she pulls through, i have always liked her. but i’d rather see her “go” then be a vegetable or not the joan we know

I don’t understand why , when she went into cardiac arrest, the medical personal present didn’t start CPR immediately so that her brain would not be compromised by a lack of oxygen. She was at a staffed medical clinic…did they not have the capacity to deal with an emergency?? If the concern is that her brain is damaged do to a lack of oxygen, there would be serious questions for that clinic. This is a lot for an 81 year old to overcome but I wish Joan and her family strength and all the best.

  • Ashley Ann

I am sure she is a nice lady but I hate when she make fun of the dead for example Whitney Huston and Michael Jackson those people have love ones now her daughter will know what it feels like .

  • riffing

I think there are two issues

    1. If she had a scope that require anesthesia, should the procedure have been done in a hospital rather than a clinic GIVEN her age, because there is a higher risk with anesthesia the older you get. Now if she had been advised to get it done in a hospital and said no, then that’s not an issue.

    2. If she went into cardiac arrest, did they wait too long to get her breathing again. Someone posted that she should have intubated right away, it seems odd that the staff at this clinic did not seem capable of dealing with her stopped breathing. Surely that is something they would be trained for if they do this procedure all the time. Who knows how long the brain went without oxygen here,

It all comes down to what the standard of care and standard of practice is in this are – did they make an error and not have any staff on hand capable of dealing with situations when the patient goes into some kind of distress?

  • riffing

Or yes as Ivy said why wasn’t CPR administered right away unless they did and she was still not responding. It is also the big nightmare for us all you go to get a scope or other simple test, you are otherwise healthy but the scope ends up killing you somehow like a tear or the anesthesia kills you. We underestimate the risk of the anesthesia all the time. Which makes it amazing that Michael Jackson lived as long as he did.

I think they should. Something obviously went wrong.

They should sue. Something went wrong.

  • NO

Who the Hell said that Joan Rivers might be a vegetable? Oh, that wording pisses me off! She’s still a person, you jack ass!

Prayers for Joan and her family.

Omg! Most of you are so right! I thought the induced coma was supposed to keep things like that from happening???

  • Sasha

So typical Jewish. SUE!! The woman hasn’t come out of coma and they are already looking for money. Nobody put a gun o Joan’s head to go to doctor and I’m sure she’s been to this clinic before.

  • Rocky

    @Ashley Ann:

    SO TRUE!!

  • Looselipz

You’re pathetic. Probably a sociopath. A bigoted racist one I’m certain.

  • Sasha

I’m not a bigot, I’m just telling it like it is. The woman is still in coma and they’re talking about suing. Worry about her first then suing.
