Scarlett Johansson Headed to TV in Eight Episode Limited Series

Scarlett Johansson just booked a major television gig – she will star in and executive produce the upcoming limited series The Custom of the Country.

The 29-year-old actress will play a woman whose “rise to the top of New York’s high society from her nouveau riche roots provides a provocative and thoroughly modern commentary on the upwardly mobile and the aspirations that eventually cause their ruin,” according to Deadline.

The series will consist of eight episodes and it will likely be picked up by a cable or premium cable network.

The Custom of the Country is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize winner Edith Wharton, which was published back in 1913.

Most movie actors are moving to television mini series now. It’s where the better stories are. I hope it becomes standard like it is in places like South Korea and Japan

  • Alaia

@Guest: Movie stars have been doing miniseries for years. Meryl Streep and Al Pacino in Angels in America, for one. Kate Winslet a few years back for Mildred Pierce.

  • just no

She’s a terrible eye-candy actress desperate to be taken seriously. I can’t wait to see her blank stare and boring line delivery in a period mini-series. 8 hours of my life I’d probably never get back. No thanks. I’ll read the novel instead.

  • Jean

So, rather than be a good parent, she’s going and committing to a miniseries that’ll take months to film.

  • Stella

The story is set between New York and Paris… how convenient for her.
But to be perfectly honest, I think she’s got fairly limited range. She RUINED The Black Dahlia, The Other Boleyn Girl and Hitchcock.

  • lol

Sounds like a real snooze especially with her name attached to it — ScarJo has no dramatic depth. I know kindergarteners who can act better than she does. Worst famous actress of our times. Her 2 best roles: Girl with the Pearl Earring: where she had like no dialogue and Her: where she never appeared on screen. Hype machine still working overtime.

Its obvious you can get away with a pretty face and have no brains or acting skills what. So. Ever… shes right up there with Kristen Stewart and Jessica Alba/Biel. She gets most of her roles because of her boobs and partially parted lips. Its ridiculous.

  • rly?

Bahahahaha! ………Is it April 1st already? Seriously, she’s a sh-t actress. She pretty much hired herself since she’s also producing.

  • Brady

She’s so mediocre though. Just as bad as she is pretty.

  • Rivka Marsten

Amazing what constitutes a plot these days.
