Jessica Lange Sings 'Life on Mars' for 'AHS' - WATCH NOW!

One of the most memorable moments of the American Horror Story: Freak Show premiere had to be when Jessica Lange delivered a stellar performance of the David Bowie classic “Life on Mars”!

Now, the show’s creator Ryan Murphy has announced the actress’ cover of the song will get a release on iTunes.

“Due to popular demand, we will be releasing Jessica Lange‘s version of LIFE ON MARS on iTunes. Just wait until you see her Lana [Del Rey] cover,” he tweeted.

He also announced, “Because we love our FREAK SHOW fans, next week’s episode is also 90 minutes…just like the premiere! Wait until you meet Michael [Chiklis] & Angela [Bassett]!”

    as much as i thought it was amazing that jessica sang one of my favorite david bowie songs that actually does fit with the show based on its lyrics, why aren’t they singing retro hits from the 50′s or 40′s? i know there really weren’t many popular songs back then circulating the radios but i think it would’ve stuck to the authenticity of the show since it takes place in 1952. i wonder if ryan murphy will have an explanation for these covers of songs that were technically done way later than the time period than the show is set in. of course this show is fiction but his explanation can’t simply be “its fiction so i’ll play along with that.” but if he does say that, at least he’s being honest lol.

    @hmmm:

    they did leave out the lyrics that would have dated the song, like lennon being on sale again. i also cant tell in the chorus if she is altering the lyrics saying “its a freak show” when the original lyrics are ” it the freakiest show”.

    @hmmm:

    here is a quote from murphy about what you speak of… “I really wanted to do an homage to my friend and idol Baz Luhrmann who does such amazing things with music and period. We didn’t want to do Happy Days, we didn’t want to do all 50′s music. So what we did was, we decided to do musical numbers when they’re needed, not all the time, that feature artists who have identified as odd, different freaks, that felt like outcasts. We did Lana Del Rey, Kurt Cobain, David Bowie. People who I admire who really changed the landscape of music, based on them feeling like outsiders.”

    i say, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

    I think Life on Mars, fit in perfect. It was my favorite song since they did, The Name Game Song, in season 2. I also think Jessica sounded a lot like Maryann Faithful Bravo! .
