Katie Holmes & Ariana Grande Join Voice Cast of 'Underdogs'

Katie Holmes and Ariana Grande have joined the voice cast of the upcoming animated movie Underdogs!

The film will also feature the voices of Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison, John Leguizamo, Saturday Night Live‘s Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan, and others.

Underdogs centers on a shy but talented foosball player (Morrison) who must defend his town and the girl he loves, Laura (Grande), from the nefarious soccer player Ace (Hoult). He’s aided by the figures on his foosball table, who magically come to life, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“This talented cast takes our script and enhances it, with brilliant improvisation and wonderful chemistry. I’m so proud of these super-talented actors and comedians,” The Weinstein Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein commented in a statement.

The movie, an English-language version of a hit Argentine film, will hit theaters on April 10, 2015.

Wonder why he hasn’t given her an actual leading role yet?
Maybe even he knows better then to go that far with his charity.

Matthew Morrison and Ariana Grande as a couple. Yes, that is TOTALLY believable. Come on. I know movies are suppose to be fiction, but even this is totally out of the left field in the world of fictitious stories.

#2– it’s animated so no one (and especially kids) will put the voices with the face.
This isn’t a big Disney type thing. It’s a animated film based on an Argentine film.

Now this is a good career move for Katie. The movie will probably do very well and what this will do regardless of whether it was due to her or not–it will up her visibility as an actress and more importantly it will make her on paper at least look better when it comes to a return on the investment figure. She has one of the lowest averages on BoxOfficeMojo and if this hits really big she will look much more successful in her ability to carry a picture (again whether it is true or not). If you take out Batman from her stats she has one of the lowest averages in the industry for a well known actress. So kudos to whoever is advising her or taking her under their wing. This is a very smart move…unless the movie tanks!

#4- But it’s an animated show all she is doing is voice over. I see it can up an actors average for those looking at that but not their clout as an actor.

so stop believing you can’t reach the stars!!

I don’t follow kids movies too close but I just checked “Up on Poppy Hill”. This was a remake of a Japanese animated. Like this film above it’s not an American original.
Poppy made only 60million worldwide and 1 Million US.
I am not too sure how close these movies are tbh.

  • Jon

It had Ron Howard as a voice too.
Does anyone think of “Up on Poppy Hill” when they think of Ron Howard?
    I didn’t think so.

Jared didn’t say what role Katie will have. The main female is for Ariana.
The other main cast members are all men.

Amadeo (David Masajnik): an expert in foosball since his childhood and the creator of his foosball team.
Laura (Lucía Maciel): Amadeo’s best friend and love interest, even though she doesn’t know it.
Grosso (Diego Ramos): a narcissistic professional football player who was formerly a bully in Amadeo’s home town.
Capi (Pablo Rago): the captain of the team. Cheerful and optimistic, he is truly the heart of the green team.
El Beto (Fabián Gianola): a smart-mouthed player who enjoys speaking in third person.
El Loco (Horacio Fontova): a hippie in the team. A peace-loving individual with eternal patience, his eccentric comments often confuse the team.
El Chino (Miguel Ángel Rodríguez): a player of “Korean” origin who is repeatedly mistaken as Chinese. Because of him being Asian, the team believes he’s a mathematical genius, though he’s not really all that smart.
The Manager (Coco Sily): a football manager whoae attention is drawn to Grosso and transforms him into a top-notch athlete.

    Surprise, surprise, Harvey Weinstein project/vehicle.

A lot of future project information – 2 in the pipeline – before next months (limited and VOD) release of “Miss Meadows”.

  • Just a Comment

I still say the movie Miss Meadows will be a turning point in Katie’s career. This animated Underdogs movie will be another supporting role for her where she is not the main star but part of another ensemble cast like The Giver. The star of the movie is new pop princess Ariana Grande. She’s in her early 20′s. But Katie is hanging in there taking roles she can still get & trying to have a future in the entertainment business.

  • Just a Comment

Katie is not going to have to wait 6 months to see how Miss Meadows will play, it will be released next month to the public. Although some people have already seen it and have given it mixed reviews. But I get the feeling Katie is delusional and thinks “this time” the movie will be a hit. You have to have that delusion or optimism to keep going in the entertainment business although with choices like Jackie: After Camelot you get the feeling she does not have a good group of career advisors. Good luck to her. The girl is trying.

Hoodwinked was based on Little Red Riding Hood so of course it had greater success. More childhood classics.
This new one is about foosball/soccer which is why it would be popular in Argentina where it originated.
This is not in the Frozen or even Hoodwinked category by any means.
I am curious to find out what role she is speaking. Is there a mother character with a small part or something?
I think it’s par for the course for her pr (and any celebrity really) to make big statements about future projects to generate hype and present it as if they are staring in it.
