Mark Zuckerberg & Wife Priscilla Chan Are Donating $25 Million to Fight Ebola

Mark Zuckerberg took to his Facebook account early Tuesday morning (October 14) to inform the public that he and his wife Priscilla Chan are donating $25 million to the Ebola epidemic.

Priscilla and I are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola,” the 30-year-old Facebook founder wrote. “We need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesn’t spread further and become a long term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio.”

“We believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the CDC and the experts in this field to prevent this outcome,” Mark added.

Priscilla and I are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola.
The Ebola epidemic is at a critical turning point. It has infected 8,400 people so far, but it is spreading very quickly and projections suggest it could infect 1 million people or more over the next several months if not addressed.
We need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesn’t spread further and become a long term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio.
We believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the CDC and the experts in this field to prevent this outcome.
Grants like this directly help the frontline responders in their heroic work. These people are on the ground setting up care centers, training local staff, identifying Ebola cases and much more.
We are hopeful this will help save lives and get this outbreak under control.

  • Awesome

That is awesome ! – I hate that people don´t seem to take it seriously … yet. How about we do something about it before it gets worse.

  • That’s Wonderful

I hope the CDC will do the right thing and rush out more of the Zmapp vaccine and any other vaccine that can contain this beast. I still think the government need to step in and demand better screening of those with Passports from these affected areas to not be allowed to travel to the US until this is contained or they go through quarantine.

That’s great. Very generous. I wish he would have been around to help when I had Swine flu in the 1970s:

It’s good to see that Mark Zuckerberg has not forgotten the real life tragedies and epidemics that can affect others. So many billionaires have forgotten what being “generous and thoughtful” really means. In adverse to being soley focus on his Entrepreneurship ideas, he still makes time to offer help to those in need. Kudos to him and his wife.

wow! Surprised he is the first to do this! wondering why all these other celebs hasn’t yet!

  • abc

Good for him on this issue but the guy is still in favor of granting amnesty to illegal aliens who have violated America’s immigration laws so he’s a mixed bag of good and bad ideas.

  • Cate

That is just incredible of them! I have so much respect for them doing this.

It’s a huge issue and I think I’ve only seen 1 or 2 Western celebrities talking about the need for donations. It’s shameful how little attention and funding fighting this disease has received because it’s seen as an “African” problem.
