Taylor Swift Has an Amazing Response for Those 'Sexist' Critics

Taylor Swift has delivered an amazing response to people who criticize her for writing about her ex-boyfriends.

The 24-year-old singer was being interviewed on Australia’s Jules, Merrick & Sophie radio show when asked to comment on the issue.

“The most important thing for me is maintaining artistic integrity, which means as a songwriter I still continue to write about my life,” Taylor said. “Frankly, I think that’s a very sexist angle to take. No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says that about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there.”

Listen to a brand new preview of Taylor‘s song “Welcome to New York” now!

Not a fan of Taylor Swift but she makes a great point. Ed is always singing about her past relationships and I haven’t heard a single person criticise him for doing that.

  • la petite bonnieux

It’s cuz u have no talent as a singer.. u sound like a tin can. Adele wrote about her exes , but she hast real talent

  • TheRezumee .

She’s banging those guys right in front of us and makes songs pointing
each of them out. Unlike from Ed who respects his relationships and can
sell his songs without making sure that people won’t talk about it just
because the song is about a famous person. That’s the difference, girl.
    You’re disrespectful!

  • Johnny

So you’re justifying her being singled out in the media because you hold the opinion that she isn’t a good singer? Double standards are okay in this situation?

    The bottom line is this:

Taylor writes about her relationships and receives harsh criticism for it.

Male artists write about their relationships and no one bats an eye.

    It’s wrong.

  • sky

That would be my point too. The guy write about relationships and their exes but u Dont know who they are and people r not speculating about who they r. Secondly, they dont come up with elaborate and childish way to humiliate someone when they perform the songs. Tsylor needs to look in the mirror and say, hey this is why no one want to date me.

  • Nat Mirotta

You are a little bit of an ignorant person! And you seem a little bit disrespectful of the songwriting of true artists. Taylor is a realist and in songwriting circles is known as an authentic writer which is what real writers write about. How do you know she is ‘banging’ those guys. You turn ‘love’ and the emotional side of relationships into a ‘banging’ thing. That is plain ignorance.

  • Nat Mirotta

    Again! You are purely ignorant.

  • Avril

She never says who the songs are about. People just speculates and you don’t even know if they’re right.
The reason ppl don’t do that with Ed Sheeran is bc he’s not that famous yet so people are not constantly following his moves. But if you pay close attention to his lyrics you can have a clue who they are about yet people don’t shame him.
    Sexism at its best.

  • Wade Wilson

She is always playing the victim.

  • Deanne

The difference between Taylor Swift and the other artists she is referencing is that Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars aren’t constantly pulling some idiotic, middle school-esque ‘mean girls’ schtick.
Taylor seriously needs to grow up.

  • Me, Just… Me

It’s not sexist, it’s specific. Sure, no one says anything about Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars, but hey, no one says anything about Adele or Beyonce writing about love/heartache either. All singers do. It’s just her particular brand of songwriting comes across as whiny and juvenile. Not to mention how she likes to give hints and clues to who exactly she’s singing about. If she wrote mature lyrics and stopped with the petty crap people wouldn’t care.

  • disqus_3C0QLw4e26

Female singers write about their exes all the time and don’t get slammed for it, so this whole sexism crying out is just bullshit. Stevie Nicks has been writing about Lindsey Buckingham for over 40 years. No one calls her out on it, and for good reason. People call Taylor out because she writes these passive-aggressive, always playing the “oh, you could have had this, but now you can’t” victim songs.

  • cory13

this is a free country. she has the right to write about what she wants to. she most be doing something right she is selling, selling and selling.

  • BargainBob

Why? Because he disagrees with you? I didn’t know that “disliking Taylor Swift” was the definition of ignorance. You are a delusional fool. Whoever untied your straight jacket and let you use a keyboard should be fired.

    You’re a virgin aren’t you, Natty?
