Oscar Taveras & Girlfriend Dead - Cardinals Player Dies at 22

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras has died at the young age of 22 after being involved in a car accident in the Dominican Republic.

The baseball player was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro along the beaches with his girlfriend Edilia Arvelo, 18, when he lost control of the car and went off the road. Both of them died in the crash.

“He wasn’t carrying documents at the time of the accident, but his body was identified by family members,” Col. Diego Pesqueira of the Metropolitan Transportation Agency said (via People).

“I simply can’t believe it,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. “I first met Oscar when he was 16 years old and will forever remember him as a wonderful young man who was a gifted athlete with an infectious love for life who lived every day to the fullest.”

We send out our thoughts and condolences to Oscar and Edilia‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
