Angelina Jolie Goes Blonde, Embraces Brad Pitt for 'By the Sea'

Angelina Jolie stands looking so statuesque while filming her new movie By the Sea wearing a blonde wig on Wednesday (October 29) in Sannat, Malta.

The 39-year-old actress was also seen on set that day with her husband and co-star Brad Pitt. They filmed a scene where they embraced and appeared to hold each other.

PHOTOS: Check out the latest pics of Angelina Jolie

Here’s a synopsis of the movie: Set in France during the mid-1970s, Vanessa (Jolie), a former dancer, and her husband Roland (Pitt), an American writer, travel the country together. They seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper and a hotel owner. Check out Angelina and Brad in the first stills from the movie, in case you missed them!

Look out for the film, in theaters next year!

FYI: Angelina is wearing Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.

    Mumbai Film Festival: Difret – A call for change and the power of intent
    ===============================================
    A familiar ache sets in soon after you settle in to watch Ethiopian film-maker Zeresenay Berhane Mehari’s debut feature, Difret. You witness a casual occurrence of the grossest of human rights violations, against the most frequent of targets – the female. Yes, Difret is based on a true story.

    The film may be set in a remote village in Ethiopia, where it isn’t merely acceptable, but is considered a time-honoured tradition for a man to abduct a woman whom he wishes to marry. Yet, the resonance that this tale has is universal. In this film, a gang of men kidnap and injure a teenaged girl, following which the man who ‘desires’ her goes on to rape her. Variations of this story pepper our world, and those are only the stories that we hear of; the ones deemed newsworthy.

    Hirut, the young braveheart whose body is violated, doesn’t take it lying down, however. She escapes, and when her life is in danger, she retaliates. Her rapist is killed, and local practice decrees that a woman who kills a man must face instant death and be buried with the man she killed. Unsurprisingly, this seems to be taken as law by the villagers.

    Hirut’s plight draws in a young woman named Meaza, a
    lawyer who works at a non-profit organisation that fights for women’s rights, and provides legal counsel for those in need. Idealistic and fearless, the film follows Meaza the most. Difret, which means ‘courage’, is essentially the story of Meaza’s battleof justice for Hirut.

    Meaza’s struggle may seem like an oft-heard narrative –
    David taking on a Goliath-esque system that’s entrenched deep and rotten to the core. The grotesque reality of this familiar story still strikes hard, though. You begin to question humankind’s devolution into the ugly, warring, patriarchal species that we’ve become today.
    The questions that Difret raises are difficult, and there are no answers. Where and when was it decided that the male of our species had power over the female? What is the origin of the sense of entitlement that most men seem to have, particularly when it seems so counter-intuitive to natural law? Are you supposed to meekly accept reality and succumb to
    it? Or are you supposed to fight this losing battle, only because
    there’s honour in standing up for what you know to be right?

    These questions have been raised time and again, and so often in the recent past. Difret’s victory, then, lies in the fact that it doesn’t make you feel like these questions are being asked too many times. Instead, it makes you realize that unless these questions aren’t asked unequivocally, louder and more often, the answers to them don’t seem to be in the offing any time soon.

    True, there isn’t much cinematic craft to appreciate in Difret. Technically, the film is merely functional, quite like the framing and composition. The story itself follows a fairly predictable pattern. There seems to be no attempt at nuance or subtlety. Everything the film-maker feels is right on the surface, with no attempt to provoke the mind. The intent, instead, is to
    tug straight at the heart.

    The sincerity of this intent shines through, though. Like Meaza’s efforts in the story, director Mehari’s film is a step in the right direction, particularly for a country like Ethiopia, where it is so much harder to complete and release a film. Difret reminds us that sometimes, to affect change, all one really needs is intent. That’s where change begins.

    Exclusive: Watch Angelina Jolie Fly in a Bonus Feature from Maleficent
    ===============================================
    ComingSoon.net today has your first look at a bonus feature in which they show how Angelina Jolie flew in the film!
    The anticipated release also includes deleted scenes and special features such as Aurora: Becoming A Beauty,” “From Fairy Tale To Feature Film, “Building An Epic Battle,” “Classic Couture,” and “Maleficent Revealed.”
    From Disney comes Maleficent – the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal – an act that
    begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

    ‘Maleficent’ casts her spell on home audiences
    ====================================
    “Maleficent” is the untold story of one of Disney’s most iconic villains. She was the one who put the curse on Princess Aurora that placed her in a deep sleep until “true love’s kiss” awakened her. But what was it that led her to this act? Prior to “Disney’s Sleeping Beauty” we didn’t know much about this mysterious character. “Maleficent” explains the history and life of this amazing person who, up until now, we thought of only as a
    villain.

    In this live-action movie, resplendent with plenty of
    CGI, the film is stunning. I have to admit I prefer my fairy tales in
    the animated form, up until now. “Maleficent” is magnificent in both story and visuals.

    The recent Diamond Edition of “Sleeping Beauty” presents this classic story in high-definition with bonus features about the story. But “Maleficent” varies from that storyline quite a
    bit. In fact, the three fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, are
    present in “Maleficent,” but their characters have different names and they aren’t the caring, loving characters they are in “Sleeping Beauty.”

    Angelina Jolie stars as Maleficent in this darker story than “Sleeping Beauty,” which is why it is rated PG instead of G, however it is a remarkable fairy tale with amazing beauty. To put it bluntly, it’s visually stunning, and the characters have more depth, giving viewers a better understanding of their histories and their lives.

    What was it that turned a loving, caring fairy into an evil woman filled with spite?
    That is the crux of the story. But where love once lived, it can live again, even if it is in the heart of someone thought to be the mistress of evil. In fact, Maleficent is not evil, as viewers will discover.

    Bonus features add greatly to the DVDs and Blu-rays. Some of them include a featurette on the wardrobe created for this film. The first thing anyone notices is Maleficent’s horns. The filmmkers put a “fresh edge” to the iconic headband of the legendary character.

    And just how did they create all the amazing scenes in the movie? There is a behind-the-scenes feature which will amaze viewers as they discover some fun moviemaking
    tricks of the trade. Plus another feature focusing on an epic battle scene also adds insight about filmmaking for viewers.

    Elle Fanning plays Princess Aurora. She was the only actress considered for the part and admits it was “special to play an iconic character.” The feature about Aurora looks at Elle and what she brought to the role. Angelina Jolie calls her “sunshine.”

    “Getting to play an actual princess is a dream come true,” states Fanning. “When I was little, people would ask me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When I was 5 years old, I’d say, ‘I want to be a Disney princess.’ To be able to say that
    this has actually happened to me is so unreal.”

    Fanning explains, “Maleficent and Aurora have a much more complex relationship in this movie compared to the animated ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ After Maleficent curses Aurora in that christening scene, she follows Aurora around while she’s growing up. You get to see Aurora in different stages in her life
    in the movie. You get to see the young toddler, then you get to see her at eight years old. Then you finally see me as Aurora as a teenager, but Maleficent is there hiding away in every step of those stages.”

    Elle Fanning’s favorite Disney princess was always Aurora, “because she looked like me the most. I’ve always looked up to her. She has that blonde hair and her pink dress; I would think, ‘She’s my princess.’”

    Now little girls will look at Elle in a new light. She is now a
    full-fledged Disney Princess, which is something special, as little
    girls everywhere know. Yet this is not a film only girls will enjoy.
    “There’s something for everyone in ‘Maleficent,’” acknowledged Fanning. “There’s something for boys and girls, as well as adults. The movie has so many different emotions wrapped up into it. When you finish watching, you will be both laughing and crying.”

    In another bonus, Jolie admits she loved the character of Maleficent when she was a little girl and was “moved by the script” of this film. It has depth. It has charm. And it has enchantment.

    “Maleficent” is a magical movie, to say the least. It is filled with stunning images, memorable characters, and a story that will change the way you look at so-called villains. Even if
    you prefer your fairy tales in animated form, it’s worth taking a look at “Maleficent.” This is a movie that will be enjoyed over and over again by adults and children. How could it not when the ultimate message is of true love?

    ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Star Jai Courtney Takes a Detour With ‘Felony’
    ============================================
    Working with your Unbroken director Angelina Jolie, who’s obviously one of the most famous people on the planet, what was the interesting thing to find out about her as a colleague, as a person?
    Honestly, I think it’s how warm and genuine she is. You get used to meeting people of a certain stature who have a guard up, somewhat, and it’s not hard to understand why. Some people of that level, they live in an alternate universe, and they can’t go and get coffee, and they can’t drive themselves to the shops, and it’s about so much more that their life gets complicated in trying to maintain privacy, and it’s not hard to
    understand how some of them get wound up in the trappings of that and end up withdrawing. I think the interesting thing was that she’s not like that at all. She really is what-you-see-is-what-you-get, in a way. She’s a lovely, warm, open-hearted individual, who’s incredibly smart and incredibly in touch with truth and storytelling and what’s going on in the world. At no minute did I feel like we were just making that movie, because she felt like it would be fun to direct a movie. You know what I mean? She’s, I think, developing a really strong voice from the
    other side of the camera, and I think we can expect some seriously exciting things from her. Unbroken I haven’t seen yet, but from what I have seen of it, it looks fantastic. She deserves a pat on the back, because I think you can interpret that as something else, when someone that famous is in the directing chair, and I think she’s doing it for the right reasons.

    Do you have an affinity for these actor-directors? You’ve worked with a number of them now.

    A couple now – yeah, it’s interesting. It was definitely amusing to be involved with, almost, those two projects simultaneously with The Water Diviner and Unbroken. I don’t think a director needs to have a background in acting to be good at what they do. There’s so much involved in directing that has nothing to do with the performance. That’s just another element, another one of those building blocks, but it’s certainly cool to work with people that do know what that’s like, and know the impact of their approach, on an actor and how they prepare
    an actor to deliver what they need onscreen. So it’s been pleasant, so far.

    Cover Battle: Details or Billboard
    ——————————————
    Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s Cover Battle. This week we have Details taking on Billboard. Details features a photo of Brad Pitt wearing an outfit that only he could pull off. Somehow, we view this cover and don’t think, “Why is this guy dressed like an eccentric and perhaps intoxicated 1920s airline baron?” Instead, we think “Silk yellow shirts with giant collars are great looking.” Behold the power of Pitt.

    Billboard’s cover, meanwhile, has Usher sporting a crown. We have to admit, Usher is definitely the king of Getting College Kids to Dance and Make Other Regrettable Choices.

    So readers, which cover is better? You can vote, comment, or do both.

    Love Conquers All, my dear I had posted a post from an Extra on BTS in Malta and she was high praising how Angie is so gracious to all the people on the set, high praise indeed. So far we have seen 2 dress changes from BTS I like all 3 ” Black Negligee, the Cheetah Hat and Camel colour cardigan and this white dress” Brads white hat reminds me when he was carrying Shiloh when they visited Angie in hospital when Knox & Vivian were about to arrive, I Think it’s the same one. So far I think Brad’s wardrobe is Brads own. By the way the Hats are being made for BTS from the designer who made Maleficent Head piece, he also did Shiloh’s Top hat.

  • Phool

    Ohh noo what’s up? If you don’t want to tell then all I will say hope everything is fine *giving Felinelilly BIG WARM HUG* .Never thought i’d say this but Brad made German sound SEXY made me weak at the knees *sorry Angie but It has to be said*.
