Brad Pitt Says ‘Fury’ Part of His “Mandate” to Push Smaller Films

The actor was in South Korea to promote the WWII tank drama

“If I like the film, then I know at least one person likes that film,” said Brad Pitt quoting a famous line from Katherine Hepburn to underline why he has a responsibility to push smaller, more complex films.

Pitt landed in Seoul on Wednesday to promote Fury, which opens here on Nov. 13 and he sees David Ayer’s WWII tank actioner in a similar vein to the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave, in that both are small but challenging films that often get overlooked in Hollywood.

“In Hollywood, big, more commercial films are being made
and the smaller, more complex difficult subject matters where directors
are reaching out for something more… Our mandate is to help these
directors give these storytellers a little extra push over the hill,”
the star told South Korean media at a press conference.

Pitt not only plays the role of a battle-hardened commander in Fury, but also produced the film. He hopes that the World War II story will
resonate with Korean audiences. Korea was liberated from Japanese
colonial rule following the war in 1945, since which it has grown fast
to become a rare aid-receiving country to an aid-giving country today.

“It’s great to witness a country that has enjoyed such a development
and with a pride in its own culture. It’s inspiring for us,” said Pitt.

Pitt’s co-star Logan Lerman said he was excited to visit Korea as he is a fan of Korean cinema and was greatly impressed by films by ParkChan-wook and Bong Joon Ho. He also expressed interest in the recent box-office smash The Admiral: Roaring Currents.

Later, when asked about the secret behind is longevity as an actor,
Pitt simply said it was all about tapping into his inner child and
    appreciating even the difficult moments.

“I’m a guy that loves films. Films spoke to me growing
up as a kid. It showed me the world and it showed me different points of
view and I try to emulate that into everything I act,” he said.

Though the 50-year-old has been in the limelight for over 20 years since his 1991 breakthrough in Thelma & Louise, he says that there have been bumps on the road.

“In any career and any endeavor, you’re going to go
through slumps. The point is where you go from there. It’s important not
to cut the rope and bail. That slump can be very important and can
inform the next decision and makes it meaningful,” he said. “There is no
success without failure, and [sometimes] no failure without success.
They’re bound together and you have to honor each moment and each one will find the next step you make.

Brad Pitt hopes ‘Fury’ speaks to horrors of war

SEOUL, Nov. 13 (Yonhap) — American actor Brad Pitt said Thursday he
hopes his latest war film “Fury” will shed light on the grotesque
reality of war in a world where violence has become more common.

    “We
live in violent times than ever before,” the 50-year-old said at a news
conference in Seoul. “This film, for me, speaks to the horrors of war
and the ridiculous fact that we can be chopping each other up in one
year and the next year we sit down for a beer or a dinner.”

“Fury,” by David Ayer, is due for a South Korean release next Thursday.
It portrays an American tank crew’s final push in Nazi Germany as World
War II comes to an end.

Pitt and fellow cast member Logan Lerman
touched down at Incheon International Airport on Wednesday for a
promotional tour of the film in South Korea.

    In
“Fury,” Pitt plays an army sergeant named Wardaddy and leads a tank
crew comprised of Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena and Jon
Bernthal — a leadership role he said was fitting for a father of six.

    “We
are one big dysfunctional family,” Pitt said of the cast members.
“Certainly as a tank commander, you have to play the position of a
father. My experience with six kids came in handy at times when these
    guys got out of line.”

Lerman, who plays the role of a rookie
soldier with no experience with a tank, said working with Pitt was a
    learning experience.

    “Brad is an incredibly hard-working,
generous person and someone who gives so much and asks for so little in
return,” the 22-year-old said. “I learned a lot about myself and my own
personal limits throughout this process ‘cuz I was definitely pushed to
    my limits.”

The movie, released in the U.S. last month, has
earned a solid 70 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, a movie review compilation
website, and has been critically acclaimed by The New Yorker as being
“within the range of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998) and
    other classics.”

Pitt and Lerman are scheduled to attend a premiere of “Fury” later in the day at Times Square in Seoul.

Finally some new pics.. So great to see him and Logan. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks. LOTS of Angie and Brad..

Pitt didnt say a word about Jolie ? That`s new.
I saw the raves for Selma and they are raves because the movie is about MLK (An American Hero) because white people are racists etc etc etc ( see Sasha Stone review of Selma)
The Liberal press is going to rave Selma, review after review.
Jolie movie is the oppsite. It is also about an American hero , olympic runner, but this one white and religious . The Liberal press is going to Pan Unbroken because of the conservative message. Because for the Liberal Press a white religious man is from the right wing and a black religious man (like Dr. King) is a human rights defender.
Its going to be interesting to see what the Afro loons will say when Unbroken starts get pan because of the conservative message.

And now for my next trick! Brad Pitt wins over the South Korean media with a simple wave of his hat

No wonder it’s his favourite hat.

    Brad
Pitt’s headwear is clearly magic, as one wave of his Fedora was all it
took to have South Korea’s media giving him their undivided attention.

The 50-year-old star was given a warm welcome as he held a press conference for his new film Fury in Seoul on Thursday.

Hello South Korea: Brad Pitt was given a warm welcome as he held a press conference for his new film Fury in Seoul on Thursday

Despite only flying in the day before, Brad look fresh and casually dapper as he waked on stage.

    For
his appearance, the star wore a pair of black trousers with a slightly
sheer black V-neck T-shirt under a linen jacket and, of course, his
    magic hat.

Showing why he is still a Hollywood heartthrob, Brad
wore his locks swept back and slightly gelled, showing off his famous
    square jawline.

OK, I checked out Lamey who was talking about how Robin Wright broke up with wazisname. Then she had photos of Robin with Keanu – together promoting the Private Lives of Pippa Lee. I didn’t know that Keanu was in that movie. PLOPL was produced by Plan B right? So I wonder how well Keanu knows Brad? Would be nice if they were quietly friends together :-)

  • Phool

Wow can Brad look more hotter , God damn, he’s glowing like Angie, very content man.

Someone posted this photo of Brad, Angelina and Oprah in the previous thread. Does it seem to you that Oprah is checking Angelina’s outfit out?

Also, the 2 women with microphones behind them.

All these women, dressed up to the nines, with corsets and triple layers of spanx probably feeling the cold. Then Angelina comes along in her Tux, no corsets or spanx, looking very comfortable, hair slightly tousled, necktie undone, as if she just had sex in the limousine with Brad on the way over ….

    LOL!!

    Hi Lylian
