Jennifer Lawrence Bought Her Couch at Ikea Because L.A. Prices 'Really Fire Me Up'

Jennifer Lawrence steps out to get in an early morning workout at SoulCycle on Sunday (November 16) in New York City.

The 24-year-old actress recently gave an interview where she said the prices of items in Los Angeles outraged her so much so that she opted to buy an Ikea couch for her house.

“It doesn’t matter how much money I make, unfairness in prices really fires me up. Like shopping in L.A and a tee-shirt costs $150,” Jennifer told The Telegraph.

She added, “A lot of anxiety comes from something as simple as me going to the grocery store because I don’t know what could happen and I have nightmares all the time that I’m walking through a shopping mall and suddenly people start surrounding me and there’s nowhere I can go. So sometimes it’s easier to call one of my friends and ask them to pick up some bananas for me because I don’t want to go to the grocery store and have an event.”

yes because getting paid 20 million for a movie.. you shouldn’t be spending $150 for anything.

  • natalie

she’s talking about a t-shirt that cost $150, just because someone has money doesn’t mean they have to spend it like some maniac.

  • Clara Tezolin

I admire this girl so much!

  • FatFlyPorkPie

just when you think you have heard it all from this girl she out does herself omg what an idiot . what a hick !

  • I don’t have a name

And what’s so idiotic about someone not throwing their money around? I can only spot one idiot around here and it ain’t her.

  • Courtney

She probably just wants to keep her furnishings simple. She said herself that she’s very careful when it comes to money and she prefers to live frugally. This, to me, shows that she’s not a careless spender, she’s not the Hollywood type to just blow money on whatever she wants. You’re getting on her case for that? It’s her money!

  • LaCroix

So she buys a 10 million dollar home & buys furnishings from Ikea because she doesn’t want to spend money? hypocritical much? Am I the only person who sees through his hack?

  • LaCroix

so buying a mansion for only one person is not spending money in excess? you sound like an idiot you know that right?

  • LaCroix

no its not getting on her case.. it’s seeing through the BS.. which you apparently cannot.

  • Courtney

She bought the house at it’s price because it was one of the few homes in Beverly Hills that had a gate and high security. I think, given how much she values her privacy, she was willing to pay that much to obtain a home where photographers can’t get to her. I don’t see how it’s hypocritical of her to get low cost furniture. She said she’s always been careful with her money. So just because she’s not doing the Hollywood thing and spending it every single piece of expensive furniture she can find, she’s fake? Give me a break!

  • I don’t have a name

Exactly. Paying good money for a house with good security, and privacy is a smart investment(!). Furniture is not.

  • VanityInsecurity

No matter what you say..her fans can’t see anything wrong with her actions.. like seeing a married man..

  • AeeJay

I don’t care who you are celebrity or not, if you date a man that is still married with kids I can’t respect you. She lost credibility when she did that. So I don’t believe she says things truthfully the way most people do. just IMHO.

  • James Lee

A house (or ‘mansion’ if you prefer) is an investment, a $150 T-shirt is not. She sounds as if she has her head screwed on right.

  • James Lee

That’s because there’s nothing wrong with dating someone is separated – we’re not in the Middle Ages any more.

  • Denise

Stop please. You must always criticize her, anything she say..stop please! She bought a home of 8 million $ because this is the price of a luxury villa in Beverly Hills..the prices of the villas in LA are very high and the fact that she wants to save the money with the forniture is respectable and commendable! Not because she is rich, she must spend without judgment..what are you saying? ..People that must always criticize are stupid and annoying!

  • SquidBillie

They’re not villas. And your comment is annoying, too.

  • tia maria

“I don’t want to go to the grocery store and have an event.” – bit of an exaggeration isn’t it

  • tia maria

“I don’t want to go to the grocery store and have an event.” – bit of an exaggeration isn’t it

  • carrie

JLaw,i’m pretty sure the home delivery exists even in Beverly Hills and it’s weird to spend $8 millions for a house and to be mingy on the fourniture

  • dlove

So because she is rich but understands the value of money and is somewhat frugal with the money makes some people have a problem with her? So because she bought a 8 million dollar home in LA where prices are crazy because she works there for privacy and security while there but also as a big time investment she can’t be somewhat frugal so she is a hypocrite? So she supposedly dated a guy who announced months before she possibly dated him that he was jointly separating from his spouse and for all intents and purposes was single you lose respect for her? I don’t get it the hate here!

  • Name

Lawrence paid $8 million for a home in a secluded area with gated security because that’s the market value of those type of homes. She doesn’t need to do the same with furniture, clothing, etc. because there are places to get a good value for those items at a reasonable price. So she’s spending money when necessary to get what fits her needs (privacy, security) and being frugal when there are ways to buy good quality items without over-paying.

That’s being a careful and smart shopper, instead of spending money just to own items with *name* brands or designer labels. Many people could take a lesson in spending within their means from her.

  • Denise

Villas, mansions..always luxury houses! And the people who cling to this nonsense..yes,for me they are annoying!!

  • Soniaintown

I think both you and Jennifer make perfect sense!

  • Soniaintown

No waste, no want. The expensive furniture will find its target audiencemarket. Jennifer happens not to be in the circle. Plus, expensive furnishings may also require lots of care and upkeep. I can totally understand where Jennifer’s coming from.

  • Michele V

And maybe when you grow up, you will learn the difference between marriage and separation, and the complexities of relationships.

  • FatFlyPorkPie

bc complaining about others ability to make a decent profit on some high end items is idiotic. she is a complete phony . we can, and she expects others to pay $15 dollars for crappy, formulaic movie but she beaches about a sturdy high end item price accordingly. Additionally , the cheap crap that Ikea sells won’t last for a year and she will have to run out and replace it again. Hollywood has really enabled this backwards hick to expose herself continuously. And that is very Idiotic .

  • 55vineyard

She does not know where to shop. I live in a middle class neighborhood, when I wanted a new sofa this spring, I shopped online. Ikea was a lot pricier than it used to be, but there was a store in an adjacent working class town, I got a nice brown sofa and 2 ottamans for $289, with tax and delivery it cost me about $400 plus I had to tip the delivery crew $20 to take my old sofa down to the street and then call for pickup from LA City DPW.

  • MassConglom

Step your upvote game up hater, lol.

  • MassConglom

Some of these haters are like spoiled children. They will always highlight the bad things done to them by somebody, even though the good things outweigh the bad … smh.

  • VanityInsecurity

so you have to be in the middle ages to have boundaries & morals.. gotcha!

  • LaCroix

um.. I have higher goals in life than upvotes .. internet thug.

  • AeeJay

Why is it necessary to put someone down because their views are different? Seems like it’s you that needs to grow up.

  • Michele V

Says the person who said she lost your respect because of HER personal decision to date a man who has been separated from his wife a nearly a year ago. Right…

  • AeeJay

Public figures are always judged on their personal & public behaviors. Their actions tells us who they are as people.
