'Mockingjay Part 1' Dominates Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 has topped this holiday weekend box office with a whopping $82.7 million gross!

According to THR, the third film of the franchise, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson, scored the third-best gross of all time for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend.

Coming in second place was Penguins of Madagascar, starring the voices of John Malkovich and Benedict Cumberbatch, which debuted with $36 million.

Taking the No. 3 spot was the animated flick Big Hero 6, earning an additional $26 million in its fourth weekend.

Rounding out the top five were Horrible Bosses 2, starring Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston, and the star-studded Interstellar, bringing in $23 million and $22 million, respectively for the five-day weekend.

Meanwhile, The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, opened in New York and Los Angeles with an impressive $482,000 for a location average of $120,500.
