she’s wrong, countries where topfreedom is more acceptable women are statistically far safer then America. This is because less of their bodies are hyper-sexualized and thus men respect them more…

She’s not necessarily wrong if following your train of thought after that assumption of wrongness – in these other places you speak of (not America) that may be more true than within America, however, her statement and fears are placed directly within the context of American and Western perspectives/beliefs on sexuality and the female body. Where, every day, issues of consent and rape are in the headlines and the justice system (along with a percentage of the population) think that women “ask for it” or women should be able to prevent rape and assault by not drinking or by not dressing a certain way. All part of rape culture that exists.

Her concern, her wording maybe not well articulated, I think is more within the idea that women should have a certain right and freedom with their bodies; and that shown skin is not “slutty” or “asking for it”. Unfortunately, the fear is with those that disagree and their actions…

Yes, and those problems are problems world wide, including Europe, just much less so. Remember, both they and America have the same history. Only Europe decided to become more sexually liberal and uninhibited when it comes to the human body. This is post likely what lead to women being less shamed and thus more respected in society. Perhaps is the US followed Europe’s lead we would see similar positive change. What is worked in one culture can certainly work in another, no society is an island.
