Joaquin Phoenix Is Not Actually Engaged, Made Up Story to Capture the Audience's Attention
Joaquin Phoenix went on Good Morning America on Tuesday (December 9) and announced his engagement news was fake, which JustJared.com can also confirm via a statement from his rep.
“No he is not engaged. Joaquin has an extraordinary and spontaneous sense of humor,” the 40-year-old actor’s rep said.
Joaquin told an elaborate story the night before on The Late Show about getting engaged to his yoga teacher, but then said the reason he made it up is because he wanted the audience to be on his side and people seem to love when people are engaged.
“Joaquin Phoenix – not engaged. Says he needed to spice up his “story” a little bit to capture the audience. People do love engagements…” the GMA Twitter updated.
Later in the morning, Joaquin also appeared on Live! with Kelly & Michael, where he explained his “prank” further.
“I did not play a prank on him – he knew that I was joking around. Did I say that? I was in bed too, I was getting ready for this show. I have no idea what I said,” Joaquin said. The hosts also asked about his Walk the Line co-star Reese Witherspoon, which he responded that they are also engaged.
