'The Newsroom' Series Finale Spoilers - How Did It All End?

SPOILER ALERT – DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!!

The series finale of The Newsroom has aired and we now know the fate of all the characters on the show.

Last week’s penultimate episode ended with the death of Sam Waterston‘s beloved character Charlie Skinner following one of the most talked about moments in the series’ history.

The finale blended in many flashback moments to show what happened before the story started in episode one, including how Charlie rounded up the crew for the new version of “News Night” that launched in the series premiere.

Click inside to find out how the story ended for all the main characters…

Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and MacKenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer): Mac revealed to Will that she is pregnant with their first child! After the death of Charlie Skinner, Mac was promoted from executive producer of “News Night” to the president of ACN. The series finale ended with Will starting his first broadcast after being released from jail.

Jim Harper (John Gallagher Jr): Jim was made the new executive producer of “News Night” and he then offered his old position of senior producer to his girlfriend Maggie. He also told her that she is the first girlfriend he has actually loved.

Maggie Jordan (Alison Pill): After being offered the senior producer role, Maggie tells Jim that she wants to interview for a field producer position in Washington, D.C. instead. They decide that they will visit each other every weekend if she gets the job and make a long distance relationship work.

Don Keefer (Thomas Sadoski): Don was offered the executive producer role of “News Night,” a job that he had before Mac was hired and he was pushed to the next hour. He said he wanted to keep his job as he was getting something good started in that time slot and he likes having the last word.

Sloan Sabbith (Olivia Munn): In the flashbacks, it was shown that Sloan had a crush on Don since their first meeting. She went to ask him out for coffee and found him kissing Maggie (his ex-girlfriend) and turned the other way. She now ended up with Don in the end and he gave her Charlie’s bowtie as a gift.

Neal Sampat (Dev Patel): After spending many months hiding in Venezuela, Neal was finally able to come back to the United States after Will was released from jail. He gets back to the office and tells the ACN Digital team that he is shutting down the website for a week to revamp it as they have embarrassed him while he was away.

Good show, hate that it ended so soon. Maggie and Jim most drama filled coupling to the end!!!

I loved the finale. For once a tv show didn’t end tragically, killing characters left and right for mere shock value. Instead it was heartfelt, funny, smart, and it really felt like a culmination of the entire series. I loved every episode and I am very satisfied, although I wish we could’ve had at least another season.
