Emma Stone Talks the 'Crushing Blow' & the 'Disposable Feeling' of Auditioning for Pilot Season

Emma Stone flashes her signature winning smile as she arrives at The Late Show with David Letterman on Monday (December 15) in New York City.

The 26-year-old Birdman star recently took part in a discussion with Epix’s ongoing “Hollywood Sessions” about the process of auditioning for television roles during pilot season.

“I’ve been through pilot season. It’s a crushing blow of a couple months where you go and you audition for pilots for TV shows and it’s like 5 a week. And there’s a sort of disposable feeling sometimes because there’s a bunch of actors who look just like you in your age range, reading for three minutes for a part. And it…can also lead to humiliating experiences,” Emma said in the video. “There’s a period of years where it’s just rejection after rejection after rejection.” Watch below…

I love this group of women. Patty Arquette is amazing.

Now you get a bit of the real Emma Stone. A little bitter and scarred by the industry. Encountered her share of disappointments and uses humor to hide her feeling behind. And she sometimes throw people under the bus when those feelings get raw. She almost flinches with the thoughts of auditioning, like she’s going to the dentist.

Unfortunately; this is why she has to be a little fake, because the public will not accept this darker/sadder even brooding version of her.

This was interesting. I always thought the constant auditioning actors go through sounds soul destroying. Emma understandably sounds relieved to have left that behind now she is a star.
Patricia Arquette is so interesting at these roundtables. Tilda Swinton remains awesome!
