Sony CEO Responds to Obama, Hits Back at President's Comments

Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton breaks his silence to address President Obama‘s comments about the studio’s decision to cancel the release of The Interview.

“We have not caved, we have not given in, we have not backed down,” the 54-year-old Sony exec shared to CNN.

He added, “I think the unfortunate part is… The President, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened. We do not own movie theaters. We cannot decide what will be played in movie theaters.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Michael Lynton’s response to President Obama’s comments?

I agree. It’s true that Sony does not own the movie theaters, but it is also true that Sony withdrew the movie from release, and cancelled the premiere.

I don’t know what the right decision was, but this guy should at least own up to what Sony did.

  • b324

Umm yes you did Michael. You caved big time. You canceled premieres, won’t distribute the movie to the theaters. This is a massively embarrassing clusterf#ck on your part and makes you look weak. Now we’ve set a precadent to other countries, dictators and terrorists, that our freedom and art is up for grabs and we’re willing to bend over and appease everyone.

    This is embarrassing.

  • Walker Drake

I hate it when ppl pull the freedom card. This is not about freedom, this is a movie about two white guys trying to kill a current foreign political leader. How can u get butt hurt about freedom, while Sony and hollywood are trying to make money by internationally mocking a whole nation?! I don’t get this.

Whether you disagree with N.K policies or not, does not matter. Have some respect for other nations.

  • Penny Dreadful

Caved or not, this is NONE of the President’s business. Doesn’t he have more important matters to attend to???

  • Penny Dreadful

Oh please. The movies mock EVERYBODY!

  • b324

Freedom of speech. Look it up. But you don’t get that, so there is no point in talking to you.

  • anya

He did cave in but why did Obama have a pres conference about this?
Shouldn’t he be talking about more important things like jobs, healthcare, tuition fees, the economy, etc.
This guy and his family are too invested in Hollywood and celebrities. You were not elected to talk about Hollywood or the NFL or hang around the celebrities! His older daughter got a job working for Steven Spielberg in Hollywood via nepotism, and he went around saying his children would have minimum wage jobs like other kids. What a hypocrite.

  • plez

Give me a break. Sony could rent a place and show the movie. They could find some space at Sony’s studio and show it outside for the first 100 people.
President Obama talked about it because Sony’s actions may effect us all if some other crazy country or terrorist decide to follow what N Korea did.

Lynton the Liar. Disney is on the phone…..

    Caved to Fat Kim.

  • Drew Flanagan

The constitution and the “freedom of speech” protects American citizens against persecution from the American Gov’t.

  • Mike1288

Exactly! I agree. Obama could have came out before at least and said everything is fine, safe, and so on but he did not. He only did it because he thought he could get some brownie points for it. He is a celeb president and that is all. If people can not see he is also a 1% president they do not pay attention.

  • anya

I agree very much. I also don’t like how he and wife recently went around saying people mistaken them for waiters, Target workers, valet servers, etc.Like everyone knows who they are and what they look like! Also, if someone asks a tall person to help them reach for something at Wal-mart or Target, how is it racism? This POTUS is a failure and not because of his skin color. His 2 kids are very privileged girls and live a better life then most kids in US! I know my kid can’t get a job with Steven Spielberg, no matter how talented or hard-working they are. His daughters will get whatever dream job they want without truly working for it, while everyone else kids have to work alot harder for alot less. Thats unfair. I have heard him praise people like Clooney, Beyonce, Jay-Z, LeBron so many times. And for what? Being spoiled and wealthy? I wish he did his job better. He cares too much about being around celebrities and Hollywood people rather then doing his job!. He is apart of 1% and enjoys being one of them.

Another Obama LIE–He is famous for this crap— Obama said Michael didnt call him?? BS— Michael reached the Upper Staff members and told them the story and his problem!!! Evidently , Obama never knows whats going on- finds someone else to blame- The same with Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS, the NSA,- He rules in pure deceptions!!!
