Jessica Chastain Doesn't Stand for Sexism in Her Industry

Jessica Chastain gets ready for a night out with a smile on Friday afternoon (December 19) in Paris, France.

The 37-year-old actress got some help from the staff holding an umbrella as she left the Bristol hotel.

Earlier that week, Jessica shared an article that focused on how women in the film and most other industries are paid a lot less than men.

“My male counterpart will get paid 10x more than me. Not double but 10 TIMES for the same job,” she retweeted along with the article.

FYI: Jessica is wearing an Iris von Arnim coat.

So, do something about it then. Quit acting and join a regulated industry like education where everyone is paid the same based on experience and how good you are at your job. No? Then shut up and go enjoy your millions.

  • Lee

She really hogs all the movies, she’s got like 5 already set for next year, the more you play the lotto, your odds of winning (an Oscar/nom) gets bigger. She uses all her “friends” to get roles, they’re all from Juliard or a director she “met” sometime. So laughable. She is better looking anyway, than she is a good actress.
ETA – She seems to jump on every bandwagon issue that comes up, and spews a lot of crap. I agree, just look good and act. Rich as hell.

If you want to change, then fight for it. Nothing is for free. It will not change anything by its own, men won’t give up their privileges. Or change a job!
The situation is even worse in other occupations, and you still earn so much better than the average woman.

well first ? who is she again? …and blah blah blah to her super id…discovery of the self is a goal of self actualization she needs work

she wins my award for most annoying celebrity

  • linus

What a bunch of loosers. A women stands up for equal rights and you all tear her down? What a bunch of miserable, backward twats you all are.

  • linus

You sound like an ugly troll. She’s pointing out sexism in her industry. Your comment suggests that you support sexism and /or are simply a moron.

  • linus

You have no idea what you are talking about, or how to speak English. Maybe it’s not your first language?

go choke on your stupid blanket linus

You can’t even spell, “looser” , idiot, lol

You know what industry where the opposite is true? The adult film industry.

  • Storm

You sound naive and uneducated. If she is genuinely being paid less on the grounds of her gender alone, then she needs to take that up with a lawyer. My job and everyone else I know’s jobs (education, law, medicine, journalism, IT, finance, etc) pay equal for men and women and none of us would just lie down and take it if men were getting paid “10 times as much” as women for the sole reason that they are men. Grow a brain, linus and join reality. If something isn’t right, act on it, but make sure you have all your facts first.

  • chelsea

She’s an Oscar-nominated actress making a small fraction of what her co-stars get, that’s who she is.

  • chelsea

Men being paid more than women for the same job is a long-established statistical fact, that’s the reality.

  • Storm

Not “because they are men”, though (and the rule does not apply at all in regulated industries like education, medicine etc) but because they are perceived as being stronger at their jobs, generating more profit for the company, working harder etc. Who knows if it is true. Don’t get carried away by statistics – they are deliberately presented in certain ways to convey ideas that are not necessarily there.

  • chelsea

What happened to looking at facts?

  • Storm

Nothing, as far as I can tell, except that these days an awful lot of false and misleading information is presented as “fact” and unfortunately in the age of information overload, a great deal of people are unable to distinguish what is accurate and what is manipulated or just plain made up.

  • Darren William Kyle

I doubt that a male co star is being paid far more because he has a penis. It will simply be because his previous films have made more money and the studio has calculated that his star power has brought in ticket sales. There are plenty of women in hollywood who also make ten times what Jessica does.
Let’s not forget that we are talking about a girl who is a millionaire due to her job already. And that she has not been a big name for very long at all and only a big name getting in acting circles. Most cinema-goers still don’t know who she is.
