'Black-ish' Creator Kenya Barris Calls Out Judd Apatow Over 'Strangely Obsessive' Bill Cosby Tweets

Director Judd Apatow is receiving some backlash for tweeting about Bill Cosby throughout the investigation into rape allegations made against him.

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris took to Twitter earlier this week to call him out for his “strangely obsessive” opinions on the topic.

While Kenya made it clear he was not defending Cosby, he asked Judd to “stop showing the most fucked off 1 sided view of black people n every thing you ever do.’

Judd tweeted, “I don’t know if his criticism of me is accurate. I just hate rapists. But we look like the exact same person!”

He later directly responded to Kenya, writing, “I don’t think you are defending him. I have more info. Follow me and I will talk to you about it.”

This is the tweet that started the exchange:

WHAT DO YOU THINK about Kenya’s criticism of Judd’s tweets?

It’s sad when people defend Bill Cosby just because he’s the same race as them, as if it’s some giant racist conspiracy. Guess what? Anybody of any skin color can be a rapist. I used to watch Black-ish and I loved it. Now that I know the creator is like this, I won’t be tuning in again.

  • Jay

I don’t really care. But I follow Judd Apatow on twitter and if I’m honest all his Cosby tweets/jokes got annoying. At first like 3 weeks ago I got it, two weeks ago I didn’t mind, even a week ago. But now it’s annoying it has nothing to do with the victims just Cosby. And not him being a rapist but just jabs at him. He is making this whole thing about himself, but then claims he’s trying to stand up for the victims. It’s about him, this entertains him for some reason, as a follower thats clear to see. I don’t like the ‘I’m a crusader defense’. Own it you like making fun of him because you think he’s a bad guy.

  • Jay

Nah I think it’s the tweets. They’re weird. It’s not really about ‘Cosby the rapist’. But Cosby, it’s a little odd. As a Judd fan, it seems like he’s a little obsessed with this story but not the victims or rape, just Cosby. I can’t explain it. It’s like christmas day it was still Cosby on his holiday with his family it was still Cosby. But maybe it’s a creative thing, they pic a subject and stick to it, IDK.
But I do have to say before this I was thinking and I think a lot of people who follow Judd on twitter were kind of wondering where is this going??

  • Storm

Kenya is right – it is weird for Apatow to go on and on so obsessively about something that is not even yet proven to be true. Different if it had happened to a family member or someone else close to him – but he really knows no more than any of us. It’s like he’s protesting too much – makes you wonder what he has been up to his private life, tbh.

  • Jolene

I don’t know the whole story but he tweeted once that he did know one of the victims personally.

  • Storm

Well, fair enough, but unless it was like his wife or daughter or sister, it kind of seems like he shouldn’t really be going on such a rampage. I guess he feels bad for the victim but I mean really, where is the proof? These women went to hotel rooms etc voluntarily with Cosby, flirted with him, took drugs with him voluntarily…not saying that makes it ok to force sex on them but you can see where a misunderstanding could occur. I mean really who knows what happened but it seems like Judd does need to back off a little here.

  • Jolene

I agree some of these women aren’t exactly of noble character but if he was taking advantage of their weakness or whatever it still doesn’t speak well of him. He can be a rapist and they can be woman of low character at the same time.

  • VanityInsecurity

Crazy how Cosby is the one who is accused from over 30 women, paid one off millions, accused of horrible crimes towards women, but Apatow is the weird one?
    Strange world we live in…

  • Storm

Well, sure, but alot of it just doesn’t add up to me. Why were they going to his room with him (none of them have claimed he forcibly took them to the rooms), taking whatever pills he gave them, etc? Unless they were mentally disabled, then they had to have known that by flirting with him, going to his room alone and accepting drugs and alcohol from him was going to make him think they wanted to sleep with him….I’m not saying that’s an excuse for rape, but couldn’t it have been a misunderstanding? And couldn’t these women now be either making it up or just remembering it wrong? Obviously I don’t know, but it does seem like everyone has convicted him already. It’s not like with Stephen Collins where he actually confessed to what he did so there is no doubt.

  • Susan

She is defending Cosby because he is black. She is a vile racist and defending him because she is black and he is black. What about the black victims? Why is she not speaking up for them? Duh, they are not important enough as blacks as Cosby is. Not all the victims were white – not that race matters here – rape is rape no matter the race of the perpetrator and the victim. I applaud Apatow for his attack on a rapist. He is the father of two girls and seems to actually like his wife. 30 women can’t all be wrong for goodness sake. I wish Apatow and much more importantly, a good year and better mental health for shouting out against Cosby.

  • Gina

You’re another person who just doesn’t get it.

  • Gina

Just because he is blasting Judd, doesn’t mean he is defending Bill. Did you even read the tweets or did you just write him off as soon as you heard he had a problem with Judd?

  • LaCroix

    and you are a joke.

  • AeeJay

    another rapist enthusiast.

  • VanityInsecurity

yet again, we make things about race instead of a crime. unreal.

  • forrest gump

    …….just support bill, folks.

  • TiredofthisCrap

You don’t know how to read. She’s a he and he stated he doesn’t support Cosby at all, it’s just that there are other injustices going on in the world and Apatow seems to focus on Cosby.

  • Mike1288

I just think this is a hard conversation to have. I am not about blaming victims and calling them liars but accusations are not facts. For me I need facts as does our justice system. It is called innocent until proven guilty for a reason.

  • Pretty Little Mars

LET’S GET ONE THING STRAIGHT: Kenya IS NOT defending Cosby. Just saying… Why didn’t Apatow criticize Woody Allen??

  • Clark

Both of these idiots are morons. Kenya thinks OJ is innocent still because he bases everything on skin color apparently, and Judd Apatow thinks women don’t lie. They both base their decisions about people on their genetic outcome, and they both call themselves progressive.

He got that from Lena Dunham, who was openly proud of writing about how she shoved f**king marbles up her sister’s vagina, and made out with her and masturbated in bed with her, because she’s eccentric! Of course he “hates rapists”.

Wow, Apatow. Just wow. Innocent until proven guilty means exactly that. Did you ever read The Crucible, you who once coined “putting the p**sy on the pedestal”? Maybe you really didn’t get what that statement meant, like your character. Well, you’re now perfectly exemplifying what it means.

  • smmy33

Exactly watched a couple of shows, not anymore , this guy is beyond ridiculous .

What the f–k does two criminals resisting arrest and one dying of a heart attack and another bullet after attacking and trying to kill a cop have to do with a famous celebrity being found out as a serial rapist on a level never seen before .

Does a person have to comment on every news item to hold a opinion on one , especially one that probably effected them personally.

Black people try make every thing about race while trying to pretend that everyone else does .

  • Gina

Don’t be an idiot, I’m not a rape enthusiast. I believe Bill is guilty & should be punished. However, Judd’s tweets seemed to have a deeper motivation behind it (Judd now basically admitted that they did & says he knows something we don’t know ). Now to someone on the outside looking in, it looks like Judd hated Bill even before the rape allegations came out and wanted him to fall off of his pedestal. This is why Kenya Barris questioned if race was a motivation for the level of obsessiveness when it came to Judd’s tweeting about Bill. So instead of calling me a rape enthusiast learn to think objectively first.

  • Gina

oooh, what a way with words you have. You REALLY put me in my place. lol

  • Gina

What’s unreal is that you lack abstract thinking abilities. I believe Bill is guilty & should be punished. However, Judd’s tweets seemed to have a deeper motivation behind it (Judd now basically admitted that they did & says he knows something we don’t know). Now to someone on the outside looking in, it looks like Judd hated Bill even before the rape allegations came out and wanted him to fall off of his pedestal. Those victims… I meant hoochies, went to his hotel, they got drunk, flirted, took dope, they knew where all this was leading. They exchanged their bodies for better opportunities in show biz and came out empty-handed and now they wanna cry rape, because Cosby is no longer paying them to keep it on the hush.I can’t feel sorry for some girls who waited 20+ years to come out and tell the world they were raped, after they accepted thousands over those 20 years to shut up. Why now? I can’t wait till these directors in Hollywood can no longer pay their actress wannabes to shut up about their sexual exploits.
