Joel Edgerton Thinks Benedict Cumberbatch Has a 'Crazy Legion of Fans'

Joel Edgerton hangs out with a group of friends on Tuesday (December 30) in Sydney, Australia.

The 40-year-old Exodus: Gods and Kings actor recently chatted about what it was like filming Black Mass alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, who has a ton of fans.

“Benedict’s a wonderful guy and a wonderful actor, and he’s got this crazy legion of fans out there,” he said (via MSN). “There was this one girl who would follow everywhere we were shooting. I would draw the curtain and look down, and there she is again. He’s a bit of a sex symbol, right?”

Crazy is right. He is a fantastic actor and I enjoyed him in Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Parade’s End (his best work), Frankenstein (a filmed version of the stage play), The Imitation Game, but he must be the ugliest man on earth. He looks like an alien. He has zero sex appeal. What drug are the women who find him attractive on – I want some so that my husband of over 25 years looks like 25 again in my eyes. I’ll give him some too so I look like I did when I was 25 years old too. LOL! British/European women obviously have very strange taste.

Cumberbatch attracts weirdos. What does that say about him? And the phony engagement/fiancee was supposed to fix all that so he’d look like a serious actor with a normal life for Oscar season but it only brought out even MORE crazies.

He also comes across as a stage-5 clinger, wracked with insecurities, and terribly needy. In other words — he brings out fans who are just like he is. THAT’S his appeal. He appeals to weirdos.

I have no idea what you are trying to say Penny Dreadful. a stage – 5 clinger? What is that. Are you intimating that you think he is gay. I have no problem with anyone being gay. Out and proud is my motto. I think if he was gay, he would not hide it, but what do I know. Luke Evans is out.

I will never understand why some people are so totally amazed and confused by other people not having the exact same opinion as them on what constitutes “attractive”. Attractiveness is subjective. Different people like different people. It’s REALLY not that hard to get your head around.

As for Cumberbatch’s fans being weird because he’s weird, that’s clearly nonsense. Look at all the crazy celebrities out there. He’s easily in the bottom 10% in the weirdness stakes, at least. Actually I’m starting to wonder whether it’s his very ordinary-ness that causes problems – with no actual scandals or misbehavior to chew over, the stupidest and most obsessive of his fans start seeing conspiracies in tiny insignificant details and then feed off each other in their little crazy corner of the internet until their idiocy gets whipped up into a storm completely of their own invention. E.g. believing his engagement is phony, as Penny Dreadful states so confidently. Nutjobs.
