Megan Hilty Defends Friend Idina Menzel's NYE Performance

Smash actress Megan Hilty is coming to her friend Idina Menzel‘s defense after the actress failed to hit a high note in an otherwise amazing performance of “Let It Go” on New Year’s Eve.

The ladies both starred together in the Broadway musical Wicked together. Megan was the understudy for Glinda until eventually taking over the role and launching her career.

“I’m really disappointed & frankly pissed off at the shitty comments made by people in our industry over Miss Menzels NYE performance,” Megan tweeted. “how she chose to gracefully deal with such unwarranted backlash by people who have considerably less than 75% of her talent or success… the best dancers fall and the best singers crack. At least they’re doing it LIVE.”

Some times people screw up at work. It happens. Get over it.

OMG, she didn’t hit all notes, let’s make a big deal! Some people need to take a good look at the music industry and recognize that Idina is one of the most talented singers and singing live is hard. Most pop tarts and boy bands only lip-sync and they’re bagging on a singer who always sings live because she didn’t hit a few notes. What a bunch of hypocrites!

  • Aaron Williams

    She was pitchy, though.

    Let it go…

  • Gina

Let’s be honest, many of her performances are fantastic, but her pitchy performances are occurring a lot more frequently than I’d like & at highly televised events no less (the Oscars, the X Factor, & now on New Years).

  • Arjay

Idina Menzel AND Megan Hilty can sing circles around all the current pop divas who couldn’t hit a note without auto-tuning if their lives depended on it.

  • Arjay

So Aaron, when will you be performing on Broadway? Just wondering.

  • Ana

She sings ‘Let It Go’ at almost EVERY appearance and live performance. That note is difficult to hit, period. I appreciate that she sang completely live, unlike Taylor Swift and other performers on NYE. I totally agree, she and Megan Hilty could outsing these “pop stars” with little effort on their part.

  • Aaron Williams

Well, mostly likely never; still, I could state a noticeable fact in her performance–which was pitchy. Chill, its never that serious.
