Jourdan Dunn Makes History for Black Women on 'British Vogue'

Jourdan Dunn looks stunning while posing for British Vogue‘s February 2015 issue, on newsstands January 9.

The 24-year-old model is making history with her cover as she is the first black woman to have a solo cover for British Vogue since Naomi Campbell did back in 2002.

Jourdan previously appeared on the cover of the mag in November 2008 as one of the “British Beauty Now” faces alongside Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Eden Clark.

“I’m so Happy to finally say I’M ON THE COVER OF BRITISH VOGUE!!! 🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌 Thank you @britishvogue, Patrick Demarchelier and Kate Phelan for making this happen and also thank you all for the Love and Support it means everything to me 😘😘😘😘😘#2015YearOfTheDunn,” Jourdan wrote on her Instagram account this weekend.

It’s quite apparent the colonial “white power” ideal lives free and strong in good ol’ London head office at Vogue.
That’s really sad and disturbing on Vogue UK’s behalf that it took them that long to have another black woman on their cover. This shouldn’t have to be considered “making history” but an everyday thing by now. It is, afterall 2015.

WAIT A MINUTE… BEYONCÉ was on the MAY 2013 cover, and I am 100% certain of this because that is the ONLY British Vogue I’ve purchased in the past 21 months. Before the BEY issue, the previous issue I purchased was the NOVEMBER 2011 issue, which had RIHANNA on its cover, but I’m on the same boat as Char… “This shouldn’t have to be considered ‘making history’ but an everyday thing.”
