Gugu Mbatha-Raw Lands Her Next Big Movie Role!

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is continuing her major success into the new year with a hot new movie role alongside Matthew McConaughey in the Civil War movie Free State of Jones.

The movie will star “McConaughey as Newton Knight and Mbatha-Raw as Rachel, a slave whose relationship with Knight played a central part in his life and in his armed rebellion against the Confederacy during the Civil War,” according to TheWrap.

Gugu was a breakout star last year with her lead roles in the films Belle and Beyond the Lights, both of which earned her tons of critical acclaim and awards buzz. She will next be seen in the sci-fi flick Jupiter Ascending as well as The Whole Truth with Keanu Reeves and an untitled NFL drama with Will Smith.

I saw her at Spooks years ago. It was a very small part but thought she was very beautiful and talented. It is nice to see that she is getting more recognized for her work.

She’s the new biracial “it” girl in Hollywood–the real replacement for Halle Berry (sorry, Zoe Saldana).

In Belle and Beyond the Lights, she played “biracial” so that’s good.
