Phylicia Rashad Defends Bill Cosby: 'Forget These Women'

Phylicia Rashad is speaking out for the first time about the sexual assault allegations being made about her The Cosby Show on-screen husband Bill Cosby.

The legendary actress played the role of Clair Huxtable on all eight seasons of the sitcom and she is defending Bill against the claims.

“Forget these women,” Phylicia told Showbiz411. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

When asked about claims made by Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson, she replied “Oh, please.”

“Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV,” Phylicia added. “And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled… [The Cosby Show] represented America to the outside world. This was the American family. And now you’re seeing it being destroyed. Why?”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Phylicia Rashad’s stance on the Bill Cosby scandal?

I wonder how much Phylicia was paid to say this. Wow.

    Bye Phylicia.

  • Lola_coop

I LOVE phylicia and I completely understand the need to defend someone who you have worked so closely with for so many years, she has probably seen the best of him. However, she is biased and I don’t think these women are lying.

  • Betty Bucket

I’ll still watch The Cosby Show. While Bill Cosby may be a lost cause, the tv series is still a classic sitcom.

Hi, Phylicia. So, a woman who played scenes, bedroom scenes, was close to him for 8 years, says that the man is basically innocent; and all her efforts are being refuted. This country is the lost cause my friend. Not the many who believe in a man who created a system of black excellence. Despite his shortcomings, you can’t dispute that. _/_/_/ #haveseveral

How often was Cosby currently on television anyway? I am thinking that what has Phylicia up in arms is perhaps seeing her residual checks drying up now that The Cosby Show reruns have been yanked.
I can’t say as I blame her. She was on this huge show and most likely received a nice sum in residuals. I’m not sure I’d go the denial dance route, however. That seems like it could leave a lot of egg on one’s face.

  • ILuvQuiet

With all due respect, if the allegations against Mr. Cosby are true, I’d hardly call sexual assault a ‘shortcoming’.

  • maylady

So her syndication checks have been affected? She isn’t exactly unbiased.
Her experience with him is just that..her experience. Some serial killers have been known to carry on seemingly normal lives for many years before being exposed. it is possible that two very different sides of this man exist

  • Savageyote

    Falacia who ???

  • kevin james

Isn’t one of our basic rights innocent until proven guilty? Everyone seems to have judged Mr Cosby guilty already. All of it based on hearsay. Until the man is judged by a jury of his peers, or at least arrested on criminal accounts, everyone must refrain from comments. He may be guilty, and if so, it is despicable. But, please do not condemn someone before the facts are presented. Having someone attest something during a news interview is not evidence; that is conjecture. How has America gone backwards to the days of lynching, even if it is metaphorical? Anyone can make a claim against another and we all assume it is true. I truly weep for our nation. We are not progressing, we are regressing.

  • FormerLamark

Just because she has not been abused by him, not sure that the others were not either.

  • LighterNote

Yes, you are right there, only too bad.
#1, all the cases are he says, she says now. All happened so long ago, no way to find any concrete evidences to prove one way or another.
#2, so many women came out, one after another.
Cosby may not be found guilty at the court of laws, but he cannot get his innocence back at the court of opinions.

  • NJOY

And do we still wonder why women don’t report being raped?

  • Cosmic Cow

I knew she would defend him. I just wonder what took her so long.

  • sky

I have been saying this all along….if this man is a pedophile like these women are claiming there would be some victims in the 2000″s. I’ve watched 16 seasons of Law & Order: SVU to know that a pedophile does not stop being a pedophile. All about $$$$

He had several projects in the works to return to tv this year. He was doing a special on tv and the had something planned with TV Land.

  • Naynay

At the end of the day I do understand what you say but as a foreign person (not american) I don’t get it why wait so long ? then speak so loud ? if you wait 30 years without saying anything I don’t understand the need to say so much when nothing can be done about it anymore (if you understand what I mean) I know how difficult that must be but the law leaves you 20 years to speak out and basically you decide not to and then out of nowhere and without any power on the situation anymore you decide to speak out ? it’s not like Mr Cosbby was a president or even as successful and influential as Oprah or Jay Z he had a show that was successful like 100 years ago so without questioning these women I just don’t get it like I don’t even see the point of talking (except the need to heal yes but you don’t necessarly need to scream over rooftops to heal)

  • Naynay

and what I also don’t get is that where are the rape kits ? (you are pretty much obliged to pass these once you get raped so where are they ?? (not trying to prove he isn’t guilty I’m just saying it is quite fishy)

With all “due respect” What would you call giving endowments to hbcu’s and countless educational institutions, giving america a much needed view into black culture. Also, creating an industry for up and coming african american actors and directors, writers, producers, also being the first black male to win an emmy, etc…. so on, and so forth. What definition could best describe that? You ignorant cunt! #gtfohwtbs

So a tony award winner, is dying to get some residual checks. Go jump into a lake.

  • lost_girl

I want to start out by saying as a victim of sexual abuse myself, rape is NO laughing matter, its a horrible thing to do to a woman/Man, BUT i side with Mr C, these women after YEARS are now just coming out!!!! why wait so long, as soon as it happened it should have been put out there. With Cosby stance on his African American brothers & sisters in the US being what it is, someone wants him brought down, and it a big huge public way,

  • Bleh

She is absolutely correct, and Rita Moreno needs to break silence and join her.

    Sometimes

    Women

    Lie

    About

    Rape

Get the memo. I am a woman. I have been raped. Every woman who lies makes it more difficult for those of us who tell the truth. These women are being paid to lie. You do NOT wait decades to report a rape. Rape kills your soul then and there and you report it THEN.

They’re lying and Rashad is correct. Full stop, end of. And let me say it again so you get it: not all women tell the truth all the time -

    Sometimes

    Women

    Lie

    About

    Rape

  • Bleh

I am a rape survivor. When you’ve been raped, you don’t curl up in a ball in your bedroom in total darkness, quietly debating whether it’s “safe to report it”, YOU GO TO THE COPS AND REPORT IT. Sometimes anonymously even! But you report it! This idea of “waiting decades” is complete fiction. REAL rape survivors DO NOT WAIT ONE DAY TO REPORT IT. You report it within 24 hours and you have to in order for swatch samples between your legs to be taken. All women know this. It’s not rocket science. These women were never raped and they do a serious disservice to all of us who have been.

Rape changes your life forever and it’s not a minor scratch or paper cut you debate decades whether to tell. If your daughter were raped, WOULD YOU WAIT 20+ YEARS?

    THINK ABOUT IT

  • lost_girl

HECK no i wouldnt, its why it all is fishy to me, but again, if there really is a legit case here, then he should be punished, some waited up to 30yrs to say anything COME ON now..

  • ILuvQuiet

There’s no need for that. I like Phylicia Rashad. She’s a talented lady. The Cosby Show was huge and long running. I would honestly be upset if my rightful earnings from the show were cut off because of somebody’s terrible behavior (allegedly).

  • ILuvQuiet

I’d call it good work. Philanthropic and forward thinking. I still wouldn’t call sexual assault a shortcoming though. One does not rule out the other.

  • ILuvQuiet

Did he? Okay, that is something I didn’t know. Thank you.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/cigo8179 Christopher I. Gomes

The two are mutually exclusive. And probability of a happily married man cheating on his wife, would be 1000/0. I am so over this story. We don’t know this man or his wife. This is completely ridiculous.

  • ILuvQuiet

You’re right. None of us know this man or his wife personally. I’m sorry if this topic upsets you. For what it’s worth, I grew up respecting Mr. Cosby too. We just don’t know what the truth is. Time will tell.

  • Gina

Whatever, she’s just mad she won’t be getting her royalties from The Cosby show reruns.

  • Lois Goff

What Is She Supposed 2 Forget, What? Okay So She’s A Screan Wife, But That’s All She Was Back 31-2yrs Ago Give Or Take & That’s Some Time A Go!!! I Mean Now Time Has Changed & Things R. Different & Women Don’t Just Come Out Saying These Things From Nowere!!!
