Phylicia Rashad Says She Was Misquoted on Bill Cosby Defense

Phylicia Rashad is speaking out in a television interview after she was quoted as saying comments like “forget these women” to defend her former TV husband Bill Cosby, which she says were misquoted.

“That is not what I said. What I said is, ‘this is not about the women. This is about something else. This is about the obliteration of legacy,’” the 66-year-old actress said in her World News Tonight interview.

“I am a woman,” Phylicia continued. “I would never say such a thing.”

When asked to comment on the accusations that Bill is facing, she said “I can’t speak to those things and wouldn’t want to.” She did say that “what has happened is declaration in the media of guilt without proof.”

“This is not about the women” is not any better than “Forget these women.” This IS about the women. He ruined his own damn legacy, not them.

The bullshit continues. I need a big field and a shovel to dispose of the medias infiltration and manipulation of a fine, good man.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/cigo8179 Christopher I. Gomes

How did he do that. By doing what, what these “women” allegedly said he did. You people sound like morons. There is no proof and nothing to gain, by either parties. What does Phylicia have to gain or lose as well as Dr. Cosby!!!

  • Jess

Why are you putting the word women in quotations? Is there some doubt that they were women? Looks like you’re the moron. What do these women have to gain by coming forward? Fame? Give me a break. Money? Unlikely he will pay off all those women. I don’t understand all you idiots who cry “where’s the proof, where’s the evidence?!” Most, if not all, of the sexual assaults were committed before rape kits were used. So what kind of evidence do you need? Unless you personally witnessed or someone videotaped it you can’t believe it happened? Get a clue.

  • Jess

Don’t use big words you don’t know the meaning of. How in the world did the media “infiltrate” him?

  • Charles Rent

I’m glad that she cleaned it up somewhat.

Part of the problem is that what Cosby is alleged to have done was not treated as “rape” in the time period in which they occurred. Slipping something into someone’s drink was treated as a bit underhanded, but not criminal. This is part of what kept the women silent for so long. They felt that noone would believe that they had been seriously wronged.

Phylicia’s original statement, now modified, reflects this particular disregard for these victims. Phylicia, likely, faced similar circumstances as these women in her career arc, … and she probably considers herself to have been wise to NOT ALLOW this to happen to her. She, likely, thinks that these women should have done MORE to protect themselves … like she did.

Let’s face it. This story is only gaining such traction today because of the sheer number of complainants. If it was just a woman or two, we would not be interested. We would feel, like does Phylicia, that these women simply had not sufficiently guarded themselves against these attacks, … and if they did not, …. oh well, no major harm done.

Our thinking is different today … and is still evolving. We know, today, that these actions, like those of child sexual abuse, can have long-lasting repercussions for those who have been so harmed.

What Cosby should be saying is …. “I’m sorry, but I didn’t know just how much harm I was causing. What can I do to make this u to the victims ?”

Or he should be saying … “I would never do such a thing”.

Unfortunately, he is not saying either ….

I love how every celeb is misquoted when they say something moronic, her residuals are supposed to be 10% of her last years salary. The kids were getting 3.4 million so I imagine that is a huge loss to her bank account

  • Dave

You have no proof he committed these assaults either so stop bullying people who believe he is innocent. I want to know why 30 to 40 years later these allegations are coming to light? Why didn’t they report this crime when it supposedly happened? You scream about somebody personally witnessing the attacks when you have done no such thing yourself. So stop attacking with words that also apply to YOU!

  • jane

she never should have spoken. unless she was involved, which she clearly wasn’t, why come to his defense? it only makes her look as fame-seeking as the women she says are accusing him, and she’ll look even dumber when the truth comes out and he’s guilty. aren’t we at like 25+ women? not all are liars

  • Esmeralda

Thank goodness someone with some sense to the media. I don’t care if 40 more women speak out, they are destroying the legacy of a man who has contributed so much to stand up and television.

  • Esmeralda

How do you suppose he will be found guilty? He hasn’t been arrested you moron. And you can’t prove he raped any of these women because the allegations are over thirty years old.

  • fromanotherplanet

BYE FELICIA!!! I’ve lost all respect for you. BYE!!!

  • jane

you must be young and dumb. if 2 or 3 people tell you are fat, you might not believe them, but when 25 people tell you that you’re fat, you listen, right? it’s numbers, and the fact that people don’t form large groups to lie. he won’t be found guilty in a court, but he’s guilty and we all know it. i guess, except you?

  • Esmeralda

You’re accusing me of being a child when you are actually writing like one. No articulation at all. I don’t believe half of these women and many other women in this country feel the same way. You see, I actually like to have concrete evidence to claim someone is guilty of such serious allegations. I’m sure 25 people would call you an idiot and I guess it would definitely be true.

  • jane

    esmeralda? mexican? educated? no.

Bitch, I have a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Who the fuck are you? Don’t come on here, acting like you know me. Exactly what I am saying with these media outlets. You fucking people are pathetic and lame as fuck. If you internet gangstas got so much backbone then try and use that to potentially eradicate the bullshit, by not buying into it. And, you don’t got to tell me your white ass isn’t a racist. I know exactly who you are. You ignorant smegma. #gtfohwtbs

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/cigo8179 Christopher I. Gomes

Go fuck yourself. Moron!!!! I quoted women as to in relation to. You can quote from others writing. You think you know more than us all. I can speak and say whatever the fuck I want. You can’t do a darn thing about it. Stop acting like you know this man. Were you there? Were you in his pants, did you see his dick penetrate their vaginas? You fucking incubus. You have the nerve to come on here and slander a black man who you know nothing about other than he was on t.v. and “women” allegedly think is a rapist. Fuck you!!!! Fuck you!!!! Fuck you!!!!! Bitch!!!!

  • Jess

LOL. I’m not white, by the way but it’s hilarious you assume I am because I don’t have the same opinion as you. You have issues, dude. Really.

  • Jess

And what exactly do YOU know about him? Are you related or close friends or something? Calm down, dude. Your insanity is showing.

  • Jess

    WTF? STFD, plain Jane.

  • Jess

FYI, An incubus is male. I think you meant succubus you ignorant asshole.

  • Shelley Mackay

Dude, you clearly have issues. Move along.

“What do these women have to gain by coming forward? Fame?… Money? ”
    **************
Yes. That’s EXACTLY what they have to gain. People post pictures of their fat butts on the internet just to get attention. **cough* Kardashian *cough**. You don’t think the media won’t pay big bucks on a hot story on a guy like the Cos?? pfft… pleeze. Surely you weren’t born yesterday.

When someone “credible” comes forward… with PROOF (a letter, picture, cancelled check, etc. – because it’s impossible to have this going one for 40 FREAK’N YEARS!!! without 1 shred of evidence)… or a “credible” victim other than Janice Dickinson, Kathie Lee Gifford, or other down-on-their-luck-aging-washed-up actresses that have motive to lie as they have the potential of monetary gain… then you can sit around & condemn the Cos. Until then, innocent until PROVEN GUILTY is the name of the law.

As a violent crime survivor myself, people that go around making false accusations are no better than the actual criminals that commit the crimes because they diminish the true severity of it making it harder for “true victims” to get they justice they rightfully deserve.

I have issues? Ok, Well, I made a comment and have defended that statement. This is the bullshit I am talking about. The manipulation of you “women”, who think that if you aren’t being coddled to, or being put on some pedestal for all the injustices you face, then there is somehow issues attached to it. #GOFUCKYOURSELF #CUNT #MOVEALONGTOTHAT #BITCH #THEYALLDESERVEDIT #FUCKYOU #KISSMYASS #YOURAFUCKINGMORON #READABOOK #YOUHAVEMOREISSUESTHANPEOPLEMAGAZINE #LOOKATYOURSELF

“…but when 25 people tell you that you’re fat, you listen, right?”
    ************
Not if they’re 25 reality show rejects. You people really need to do some more investigating into who these accusers really are. Never take things at face value. Not even “bigger” numbers.

  • Jess

It’s you’re not your. You may have a bachelor’s (as do I) but clearly basic English escapes you. Also, with the way you speak to women it’s no wonder you are vehemently supporting a rapist.

  • Jess

LOL “Yourafuckingmoron” That explains it all really. Go back to whatever college you got your degree from and demand a refund. Oh and Bill Cosby does not have an actual Phd. He has honorary doctorates which they will give to anyone famous. BIG difference.

He is silent for the most part right now under advice from his people until, I think, it goes to court. If he talks, like everyone wants him to on a daily basis about this, it will actually make the drama worse. As far as slipping pill into their drinks, that’s not what these women said. They said he offered it to them and they willingly took it. Not saying he didn’t do it, just stating what I have read since this all started.

  • NRW

I would recommend therapy for him but with that mouth, he wouldn’t be accepted into anyone’s office. There is a way to discuss/dispute a story without using such foul words. I think his B.S. degree stands for bulls**t in business admin too.

  • NRW

People thrive on jumping on bandwagons. Numbers are not always right or worth listening to unless you have the proof to back it up. IF he committed these assaults, MORE of these women should have said something to a lot of people back then and probably would have been taken seriously, thus putting a stop to it IF it happened.

  • NRW

    Especially Janice Dickenson!
