Fifty Shades of Grey's 'R' Rating Disputed By an Anti-Pornography Group

Anti-pornography group Morality in Media is not happy with the ‘R’ rating Fifty Shades of Grey has received, specifically the “unusual behavior” wording the MPAA uses to describe the racy movie.

“What the term ‘unusual’ does not account for is the coercion, sexual violence, female inequality, and BDSM themes from which the entire Fifty Shades plot is based. Such a vague evaluation puts viewers at risk, sending the message that humiliation is pleasurable and that torture should be sexually gratifying,” the group said in a statement (via EW). “We’d like to change the MPAA rating for Fifty Shades of Grey to read: ‘Promotes torture as sexually gratifying, graphic nudity, encourages stalking and abuse of power, promotes female inequality, glamorizes and legitimizes violence against women.’”

Read the original wording of Fifty Shades of Grey‘s rating from the MPAA here.

    Abuse is not love.
Abuse, even when granted with permission, is not love.
Abuse, when manipulated by a damaged soul, is not love.
The need to abuse, cause pain, is a symptom of core issues brought about by child abuse of one kind or another.

That said, it’ll have a big opening weekend, then fizzle. It is being misrepresented as love conquers all it does, except child abuse turned into payback in adults.

Gotta love feminists. Most are a total waste of human life and have nothing to donate to the world.

  • Utope

I agree with the group. The author has no idea what BDSM and I found the whole novel quite disturbing. It should get a higher warning label, for sure.

  • HG

Seriously do these people not have HBO, show time and Cinemax ? They have game of thrones , masters of sex, and banchee which are ten times worse

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

The feminists will NEVER let this go. THEY are the ones who promote and encourage pornography, fetishism, S&M, and torture-as-pleasure. Feminists believe that ANYTHING A WOMAN SAYS YES TO IS GOOD. Remember this.

  • Aaron Williams

    I concur!

  • Anya

No they are not, they might be more explicit (can’t really say since I haven’t seen Fifty yet), BUT they are not trying to sell you that the sexual abuse and intercourse is romantic fairy tale love.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

    Wonderful commentary.

You’re talking about television networks. We’re talking about a movie.

  • Jon M’Shulla

    It’s just sex.

  • Jon M’Shulla

It is like all other movies. If you like it or are interested….go.

    If not….don’t go.

Everyone knows what it is about. Femi-nazis are not forced to go. Neither are we forced to go to their events. But, Femi-nazis do not understand that part.

  • Jon M’Shulla

Also, the positions are most likely reversed in real life. I believe their are many more men who want women to dominate them then their are men who want to sexually dominate women.

Femi-nazi paranoia doesn’t admit this truth.

    Thank you.

From all I’ve seen we’ve sensationalism Sam style. Fine, she’s a young buck to keep entertained, but this is a terrible career move IMO.

That said, the film is already leaded with honest debate and leaked as cliche and false. Love changes everything, yes, but not this. Word? Wrong message. Sam had a chance to help these people but did not.

People who say this book is anti-feminist hasn’t read the book or just doesn’t understand it. The book almost has nothing to do with bdsm in a way.
C.G depended on it because of his rough childhood, he needs control.
Ana only agrees to participate in his ‘bdsm’ life-style because she liked him and was curious about it. C.G never forced it on her. BDSM played such a small role in the books and some could argue that it isn’t even true BDSM, just kinky sex LOL. He basically gave it up because ana didn’t really like it. C.G even submits to ana in one book. I just don’t like how these hardcore wanna be ‘feminist’ are taking everything to the next level. Feminism means that men and women should be treated equal. EQUALITY!! No one said shit about magic mike (Men Prostitution movie). I also hate how they turn on women that like the book. Is it wrong if a women willingly wants to submit to a man? The majority of the people in the movies theaters are going to be legal adults. I really don’t see the problem. Im too confused with what these fake feminist are trying to pull off here……

  • sally

No abuse in this movie… Kink? yes

Sam is a woman who, at age 42, had a sexual affair on-set (i.e. THE WORKPLACE) with the 18-y/o boy she was directing. She became pregnant, then pregnant AGAIN, and then married him. She’s now 47 and he’s 25. She should know a little something about emotional abuse masquerading as love.

    Sex is NEVER “just sex”.

  • FataMorgana

‘Promotes torture as s**ually gratifying, graphic nudity,
encourages stalking and abuse of power, promotes female inequality,
glamorizes and legitimizes violence against women.’”

    AMEN TO THAT.

  • FataMorgana

    AMEN!

  • FataMorgana

    AGREED!

  • FataMorgana

I was going to try and respond to you, but I am not sure I can educate someone like you.
    Seriously. You make me sad.

  • FataMorgana

    SHE DID NOT WILLINGLY SUBMIT!
HE BLACKMAILED HER INTO IT. Seriously, how can’t women NOT see this. It glamorizes violence against women and I am not talking about the ludicrous attempt at BDSM (of which the author has no knowledge whatsoever), I am talking about the emotional abuse.

But sure, you want to see it as a romantic story with a tragic hero? Go ahead.

    I despair for humanity.

  • FataMorgana

I love that when men have nothing else to say when women are trying to put through their opinion they are compared to nazis….

I’d no idea. Wow. Has she children with him? I first saw him as a young John Lennon and was amazed at his talent.

You know what? More like the emotional manipulation laced with power, status and sexual titillation.. with an expiration date.

Question is will this marriage survive the intense psyche community scrutiny of this “fairy tale with a twist” will dump on her. Will he, lucid and younger, put the dots together she is the woman Christian was draw to who “saved” him then realized after he got healthier how rotten she really was?

ETA: The fact is she (Sam) could be kind of into this kind of stuff herself? Dunno. Nothing wrong with spicing up one’s sex life, but to need this as their only way to pleasure is a flare. A red hot one.

And another thing, “I don’t do romance.” is just that. That does not change cos some ingenue enters your life. Actually they, these types, anger more. They’re all trying to ‘kill’ their first abuser so they’re blocked emotionally only able to perform. Like with Christian, it’s an act, little else. An O here, and O there. Bringing pain to them is satisfying because they could not do that to their original abuser. Once grown they feel powerful and in control so set out to set the score right but it only increases shame and guilt withing themselves. And eventually they get to where, like any addiction, all that matters is the fix. Career, friends, family, things, homes, everything means nothing. But some, when they hit that personal bottom, can climb out but it isn’t something they can fix on their own. So many because of its personal nature, and this is a wide silent epidemic, don’t get into treatment for the stigma attached, some do like Maureeen Channing, author of Lust, Anger, Love did and not are therapists themselves. Anything is possible. Anything is possible but it’s an addiction so they, the addict, has to want a better life.

A few feminists have defined pornography as material that is degrading to women. Would this include the Bible, Women’s Own, Barbara Cartland? Some material is highly offensive and degrading, and some “porn” or “erotica” very empowering.
    .
    Futurama game Promotion..
    Looking?
    Bi?
    Curious?

  • Sprite

As a young man I found some material very distasteful to my liking in books such as ‘It’, (didn’t read 10 pages), and now Stephen King has written his own ‘It’ and ‘information technology’ is abundant I feel so much better !

  • sally

When exactly does he blackmail her? please tell me maybe I missed it. I saw no violence. Emotional abuse? no, but he did take her on an emotional roller-coaster. How exactly is that abuse though?
And what I’m also trying to say is, why doesn’t feminist or whoever these people are go crazy when guys are sex objects in movies? when guys are the victims of violence?
All I’m trying to say is, if you are truly a feminist, You have to fight for both men and women because thats what its all about. Making BOTH genders equal.
I liked the book. Humanity will be okay <3.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

    You don’t understand it.

And the downgrading of child abuse to “his rough childhood” is sugar-coating it. His need for “control” is because he is angry at his abuser. He.is.ill.

What they’re using here is his last bit of humanity as a key to allow him to want to fix himself. Love does not ‘fix’ this. This is where the books take a dangerous turn. Some people, damaged since little, asking themselves, “How do you commit to something you never had, and how do you receive something in your heart you never learned to accept?” might think all they need to do is find a bf or gf and their problems will all be solve.

No. These people do need love in their lives, yes, we all do. Love is the water of life, but these people need to work through why they’ve build intimacy barriers with trained professionals. They can help them connect the dots, not feel like “freaks” or “strange” or shameful and sad because they can’t get a “handle” on it themselves. The sigma for SA and other common compulsive issues need to be broken down, NOW.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

He finds out she was ‘innocent’ and yet, even knowing he should not dabble, he does. He does because he can’t control his urges and knows she’s interested in him, so would be more willing or easily manipulated.

And anyone who takes a riding whip to a human to the point they hurt so much they cry and ache for days is being abused, willingly or not.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

And would never be made if the woman were the abuser and the man the innocent victim lured in because they’re lonely.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

Sex is never about sex, sex is about power. Especially in these books the author was so inadequate in researching.
