Taylor Swift Gives $1989 to Help Pay Off Fan's College Loans

Taylor Swift is still giving gifts to her loving fans after the holidays!

The 25-year-old singer surprised a fan named Rebekah with a huge box of gifts, which included a custom painting made by Taylor, a polaroid showing Taylor painting the pierce, and one of Taylor‘s old necklaces.

In addition, Taylor also gave Rebekah a check for $1989 to help her pay off her college loans!

Last week, Rebekah had written on Tumblr, “I have to start paying my student loans back in March and I still don’t have a job. I’m freaking out. I don’t know what I’m going to do. It’s like we’re never getting out of this hole.” Looks like Taylor really knows how to save the day!

Nobody sees what’s wrong with Taylor’s gifts? They’re ALL about TAYLOR, including the amount of the check. 1989. OMFG, the narcissism.

  • Kaitlyn

You can’t buy that kind of publicity. Oh wait. You can. $1989. In stores now.

Seriously though. Generosity and charity are great even if its narcissism. But with college loans reaching six digits nowadays then a billionaire flaunting her generosity by giving away such a calculated amount is a but sickening and more of a “look at me” attention move than a “Good for you for educating yourself” gesture.

  • b324

Welcome to the real world Rebekah and what goes through. Just imagine, once upon a time, college was free.

I’m not saying this isn’t nice and thoughtful but it’s a little narcissistic on Taylor’s part to help sell records. Is this how she made it to the top of the generosity list, or most charitable celeb list ??

  • DeeDee00

Wow….what a sweet & selfless gesture on Taylor’s behalf, she really connects with her fans. Everyone complaining it’s not enough, but I bet none of you would return it if it were you. This young woman is closer to paying off her debt.

  • Cate

She is really sweet to her fans.

  • Penny Dreadful

The young woman is technically required by law to claim this “gift” on her taxes as income. That means she has to give a percentage of $1989 to the IRS. She’s SUPPOSED to. Whether she does or not … who knows. But Taylor Swift could have paid 100% of this girl’s loans and done it totally under the radar. What she did is insulting.

  • Mathieu Louis

GTFOH (get the f*ck out of here). That’s the same amount she paid for the hotel room for her pet dog daily. Report it when she pay $198,900 worth of someone student loan. She did it for publicity because her album name is the same.

  • Penny Dreadful

Would we return it? What difference does it make if we would return it or not? We didn’t say the gift was IMMORAL. We said it was insulting. The fact is, $1989 after taxes is a joke in the face of thousands of dollars of student loans. IT IS A JOKE. It’ll take care of maybe 3 or 4 months of debt for her, then she’s right back staring a mountain in the face.

  • Gwin

-The friendships are based on their affection for her as an artist, therefore it makes sense that her gifts would relate at times to her work. -She’s giving just enough to get the girl on her feet and keep sane which is the right thing to do. -She could help a few in a big way or many in small way..she is choosing many in a small way, and she doesn’t have to do any of it. -Although we don’t know how big the debt is, so this could go further than we realize. -When she sends the gifts or has them dropped off, I highly doubt she sends a note along saying “record and post this or I’m taking back my gift”…it makes perfect sense in our society’s affliction with online and Taylor’s being a public figure that posting it would naturally
happen. -She is giving back, but it’s more than that…she’s being thoughtful and specific in such a great way for the receiver. -And if you are paying attention, it meant everything to Rebekah and that truly what is important.

Maybe to you. Her fan wasn’t insulted, in fact she was quite emotional. So calm down.

Agree and I think it’s more about personal gifts like the necklace that Taylor wore and picture that she painted for her. Money is just a little extra. Seriously fans would be happy with the autograph only.

  • Penny Dreadful

Hey, why don’t you STFU with this sanctimonious crap? You’re in the comments section of a CELEBRITY GOSSIP BLOG, for pete’s sake.

So YOU calm the f*ck down.

Keep cursing, it makes you look smarter than you actually are ;)

That’s very generous! I hope this girl will use this cheque to pay her student loans back and it’ll inspire her to find good job! Unfortunately, Taylor won’t help all the students who can’t get employed after graduation and have to pay the debt! This is partly because of the education system – it’s not so effective, quality and it costs too much. Many students use this lab for college assignments because they don’t have time to fulfill the task or they can’t do it for certain reasons. Today you invest in education a lot of money but you can’t be sure that it’ll be generously repaid and you won’t suffer after graduation.

This is a very good option for solving this problem, but personally it seems to me that it is much simpler and more useful simply to buy book reports cuz it may help to save a lot of your time and money.
